I should've though to do this earlier seeing I already missed the Celebrity Game and the Rookie Challenge, but its all good because the best stuff starts now.1) Slam Dunk Contest
The Field: Dwight Howard, ORL; Nate Robinson, NYK; Rudy Fernandez, POR; J.R. Smith, DEN
I think J.R. Smith is poised to come in last place because he was a last minute addition when Rudy Gay couldn't go. Rudy Fernandez is my dark house because I've seen him do some shit in real games! The only thing is, I don't know if that'll translate into being able to come up with creative dunks. We all know Nate Robinson can get up, but yesterday on First Take he said he hadn't really practiced any new dunks. That's NOT a good sign, especially considering how many attempts it took him to complete a dunk a few years back. We all know Dwight Howard is Superman, but in reality, he didn't even really dunk that ball last year. Add that to the fact that recent history as shown to be unkind to defending Dunk Champs (see Gerald Green last year). lus, how much can he really do different with that huge body of his??
If the basketball gods see do us right, the final will be between defending champion Dwight Howard and former champion Nate Robinson. If that is the case, I think I'm gonna ride with Lil Nate. I think Dwight will run out of dunks and I don't know if I realy believe Nate hasn't been working on new material.
Winner: Nate Robinson, NYK
2) Three Point Shoot-Out
The Field: Mike Bibby, ATL; Daequan Cook, MIA; Danny Granger, IND; Jason Kapono, TOR; Rashard Lewis, ORL; Roger Mason, SAS
Will Jason Kapono make it 3 straight?? I think not! Kapono should definitely be watching his back for either Daequan Cook or Roger Mason to take him title this year. My dark horse here is Mike Bibby solely because I heard he guaranteed victory so he'll come out that much more focus...but ultimately will probably lose to Daequan or Mason.
Its hard to just pick one but since I'm from South Florida and I get to see this kid gunning all the time, I'm gonna go with Daequan Cook as the winner in a final between he and Roger Mason.
Winner: Daequan Cook, MIA
3) H-O-R-S-E...uhh... G-E-I-C-O
The Field: Kevin Durant, OKC; O.J. Mayo, MEM; Joe Johnson, ATL
Are you serious?? K.D. is hot right now and fresh off that MVP, 46 point splash down last night at the Rookie Challenge. I don't see any way that he loses this thing.
Winner: Kevin Durant, OKC
4) Skills Challenge
The Field: Devin Harris, NJN; Tony Parker, SAS; Derrick Rose, CHI; Mo Williams, CLE
This should be a good one, but I think we can go ahead and eliminate Mo Williams right now. He's not winning lol. Anyway, I think this will be a 2 man race between Devin Harris and Tony Parker because they are the quickest. Parker is the better passer of the 2 so I'm gonn have to go with Mr. Longoria.
Winner: Tony Parker, SAS
5) Shooting Stars Competition
The Field: Team San Antonio (Tim Duncan, David Robinson, & Becky Hammon); Team Detroit (Arron Afflalo, Bill Laimbeer, & Katie Smith); Team Los Angeles (Derek Fisher, Michael Cooper, & Lisa Leslie); Team Phoenix (Leandro Barbosa, Dan Majerle, & Tangela Smith)
Team San Antonio are the depending champs in this competition, but I don't see Tim Duncan hitting those long range 3's again this year lol. I gotta go with Team Phoenix because if you watch the Celebrity Game you'd know Dan Majerle hasn't lost his shot one bit. Add Leandro, who is a streaky shooter and Tangelo Smith and I think you have the 2009 winners.
Winner: Team Phoenix
The 2009 NBA All-Star Game
Here's the main event. The reason everybody came to Phoenix. The NBA All-Star Game!! Sadly, this game probably won't even end up being close. Did you see the East's roster?? LeBron, D-Wade, and like 6 or 7 stone cold shooters. The West doesn't stand a chance unless Kobe goes for 60.
Winner: East
