Random News Shit: NBA Free Agency Edition Pt. 4

Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James stands on the court against the Boston Celtics during the fourth quarter in Game 6 of their NBA Eastern Conference playoff basketball series in Boston, Massachusetts, in this May 13, 2010 file photo. July 1, 2010 marks the opening day of the free-agent signing period amid intense media speculation about whether James, the NBA's Most Valuable Player for the past two seasons, will remain at Cleveland.
1) More Details Emerge On LeBron's ESPN Decision Special
Okay, the first new development is that the actual announcement will be made within the first 10 minutes of the 9pm special. I, like many other, just figure he'd wait until the end and have a lot of build up, but nope, he's going straight in at the top of the hour.

The special itself will be broadcast in a neutral city, Greenwich, Connecticut, at the Boys and Girls Club. Sponsorship will be sold during the special and the money will all be donated from LeBron to the Boys and Girls Club. Nice! I dare someone to talk shit about that idea.

LeBron's camp handpicked Jim Gray to do most of the heavy lifting on the night, but Michael Wilbon "and others" will also contribute via satellite from ESPN's studios in Bristol, Connecticut. I ain't mad at the choice, but I would've picked Stu Scott.

Remember (as if you would be let forget) the decision special starts at 9pm ET on ESPN.

(Side note: One of Bill Simmons' reader actually suggested LeBron do a live event like this way back in November. That's crazy!)

2) Carlos Boozer Agrees To 5-Year/$80M Deal With Bulls
I think this deal makes LeBron's decision that much clearer. Right now it's either stay in Cleveland with nobody, go Miami with Wade and Bosh, go to NY with Amare, or go to Chicago with Boozer. I think New Jersey is completely out of it now.

For Boozer's sake, the Bulls better land LeBron or he's in no better situation than he left in Utah.

3) Kevin Durant, Thunder Agree On 5-Year Extension
KD must have a lot of faith in the moves his team is making, and really why wouldn't he? Sam Presti has dome a masterful job assembling that roster.

The deal is said to be worth $86 million. Not bad, but it might have gotten more had he signed a shorter extension and and became a free agent after 7 years like Wade, LeBron, and Bosh did. Oh well, it's more money than I'll ever have, so I ain't mad at him for taking it now.

4) 2010-11 NBA Salary Cap Set at $58 Million
That's about $2 million more than most teams had previously thought. Even better for the Heat's chances of building a real contender around Wade and Bosh. I'm EXCITED!!!!!

Wade & Bosh's First Interview As Heat Teammates

Call me crazy, but judging by what Wade and Bosh had to say about LeBron, I think they know he's not coming to Miami. And you know what?? I actually don't think that's such a bad thing.

Check it out: Of course any team would LOVE to have LeBron James, but I sincerely believe that the Heat could build a stronger contender without him. That may sound like blasphemy to some, I know, but with Wade and Bosh already committed, if LeBron comes that takes up all but $400k of the Heat's money. It's not impossible, but it's gonna be HARD to build a contending supporting cast around them with so little money to spend. If it's just Wade and Bosh, that leaves plenty money to fill out the roster with great role players and shooters like Ray Allen, J.J. Redick, Mike Miller, Kyle Korver, Brendan Haywood, Udonis Haslem, and so on. We could be looking at the L.A. Lakers East (superstar 2-guard, All-Star big man, and a bunch of good role players).

Really, the only downfall of LeBron not joining the Heat is if he also doesn't re-join the Cavs and goes to the Knicks or Bulls and makes a serious challenger to the team the Heat build. Out of the remaining free agents, they'll have to choose whether to join Wade and Bosh in Miami, or LeBron in Cleveland, Chicago, or New York. Should be interesting.

Enough with all the LeBron talk, how about the fuckin' Heat?! I'm so excited for the 2010-2011 Miami Heat, and there's still only 4 players on the roster so far lol. It shouldn't be too hard convincing free agents to play with Wade and Bosh though.

Also, I love that "Miami-Wade County" shirt Dwyane had on! I joked earlier on Twitter about making a "BroWade County" shirt since I'm from Broward and not Dade, but ultimately that is a bit on the corny side lol. Speaking of creating things, check out these 2 posters SportsCenter's Twitter page posted: Miami Vice and Bad Boys. Classic!

No MTV Job For Me

If you haven't heard by now, MTV decided to go in another with their TJ contest and left your boy out. They picked 2 more white girls, so it's clear I was never what they were looking for and I just wasted my time lol. That's fine though, I'm not mad at them. They gotta do what's best for MTV, not what's best for Fiyah.

This is still a good thing though because 1) it got me back working on the website, 2) I can cuss and be real disrespectful again, and 3) I can do a SGGP on Katy Perry! I've been wanting to talk about those gorgerous jugs since the pic leaked last week lol.

The bottomline is this: don't be mad or sad for me, I'm gonna be fine. And stay tuned because I'm back!

Rick Ross - Maybach Music III (feat. T.I., Jadakiss & Erykah Badu) (Prod. by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League)

Teflon Don
Welp here's one of the most attractive looking tracks on Teflon Don (in stores July 20th). No need to say enjoy because I already know you will.

If you don't think this is hot, get in a single filed line because I'm gonna slap all you niggas in the fuckin' face! This shit is STUPID hot! Beat, lyrics, hook, feel, everything about it is dopeness. I can't even choose a favorite verse, I loved all 3, and all 3 belonged. Very useful tracks, let's hope the rest of Teflon Don follows suit.

Wade & Bosh Choose Heat
1) Wade Stays With Miami; Bosh Joins Him
Yes! Man, I was really starting to get the feel that Dwyane Wade was heading to Chicago because he wasn't gonna be able to lore anybody to South Beach with him. I wouldn't have even been mad if he did bolt for the Bulls though, it would've been a 1000% better situation than staying with the Heat with only Mike Beasley and Mario Chalmers under contract. I should've just listened to Bill Simmons when he said there's no way a guy going through a divorce was going to leave all that extra money on the table lol.

Well this was truly fantastic news to wake up to. Yeah, I would still like to add LeBron, but I'm happy with 2 of 3. Besides, if they don't land LeBron, that leaves even more money to build a super strong team with the free agents left like Bredan Haywood, J.J. Redick, and Kyle Korver, and also bringing back guys like Udonis Haslem and Quentin Richardson.

2) LeBron To Make Announcement Thursday Night at 9PM on ESPN
A lot of people are saying this would be a bad idea for LeBron, but why?? People are gonna hate on LeBron regardless of which team his chooses, what time he chooses them, or where he makes the announcement. You think Cleveland fans will feel any better if he goes to Chicago or NY, but makes the announcement at home in Akron?? Or the NY fans will be happy if he stays in Cleveland, but makes the announcement in NY?? Bottom line is this: it doesn't matter how or where LeBron makes the decision because someone's feelings are gonna get hurt and LBJ hate will ensue.

Anyway, I know I've said over and over again that I thought LeBron would stay in Cleveland, but with Wade and Bosh already choosing Miami, I'm not so sure. I still think he could follow Wade and Bosh and go to Miami, I think he could join Rose and Noah in Chicago, and I could even see him joining Amare in NY now. I don't know at this point, and nobody does. I must say though, it's HARD to see him returning to Cleveland now.

This Week In Flops 7/6/10

Big Boi
Man o man have we been waiting on this day for a LONG ass time! No really, I'm talking 2007 ish. Whatever, I'm just glad this day has come.

Now, with that being said, don't expect any crazy OutKast numbers from Big Boi's solo debut. I love Big, but I'm afraid other people only love Big when he's alongside Andre 3000. I think that's partially to blame for the lack of buzz and interest in his singles so far. Now you might say "on Speakerboxxx/The Love Below Big was essentially alone" and that is true, but The Way You Move was always accompanied by Hey Ya, and vice verse. In fact, they spent weeks and weeks trading #1 and #2 on the Hot 100 back in 2004 (yes I used to follow the Billboard charts waaaay before FiyahMuZik.com came about).

The point is this: don't expect anything over 200,000. I'm gonna go with 100-135k, but I have a terrible feeling it may be less. Fingers crossed for Big!

Kelis
Dammit I hope this album flops hard! No, not just flop, but FLOP HARD! I'm talking less than 5,000 albums sold. That isn't out of the realm of possibility either, it's not like we've heard much out of Kelis outside of her sitting of Nas for all his money and not letting him see his child. I'm gonna guess 5-15k.

Juvenile
Juvenile got an album coming out?? Man, I had no idea! Well if I didn't even know about it, I'm sure many of y'all didn't, so I'm guessing Beast Mode lands somewhere in the 3-13k range.

Chris Brown - Douche It

LMAO! Another classic! There's just so much funny stuff going on in this video, from the concept, to the huge douche bags, to hangman tattoo, to the lyrics, to buddy with the mid-drift tank top. Much respect to Affion, Justin Hires, Brandon Phillips, and most importantly, Misty Alli for being brave enough to be in the video lol.

Idiocrary 101: Protecting Your "Hood"

I hate to say it, but this does nothing for the Mel Gibson "packs of niggas" theory. Why did this even happen?? Because the slapper didn't want any new niggas in his "hood"?? If he doesn't like guys with pierced lips and skinny jeans and decided to slap him, then I guess that's okay, but he didn't want him in his "hood"?? Really??

Uhh, excuse me Mr. "Hood" Gatekeeper, but your "hood" doesn't look like much of a "hood" to me. Decent looking houses, manicured lawns, birds chirping, at the very least least this was a middle class suburb, so why can't he rap there??

Niggas. That's all I can say. Niggas.

Random News Shit: NBA Free Agency Edition Pt. 2

Amare Stoudemire is interviewed inside Madison Square Garden on Monday, July 5, 2010, in New York. Stoudemire is headed to the New York Knicks, and both sides are hoping he's not coming alone. The Knicks said Monday they intend to sign Stoudemire to a contract later this week when the free agent moratorium period ends. Stoudemire's agent, Happy Walters, said the deal is for the maximum allowed, which would be nearly $100 million over five years.
1) Amare Stoudemire Signs 5-Year Deal With Knicks
This is a shocker to no one. I knew somebody would be dumb enough to give Amare a huge contract, and I also figured nobody would be dumb enough to do it, but the Knicks. The Suns wouldn't even offer Amare more than a 3-yea deal, so that tells you a lot about what they think he has left.

Look, all I'm saying is don't be surprised if Amare is averaging 16 and 9 next season when not playing alongside Steve Nash. I don't think it's a coincidence guy's careers usually go downhill when not playing with Nash. In fact, the only guy I can think of who succeeded post-Phoenix/Nash is Joe Johnson. And speaking of Joe...

2) Joe Johnson Sticking To Hawks
Six-years and $119 million for Joe Johnson. Awesome. Good luck getting out of he 2nd round with that much money committed to a great #2.

3) Nuggets Say They Won't Trade 'Melo
I'm not sure this is a good or bad move. On one hand, they could lose Carmelo for nothing in free next year, and on the other than could trade him for a bunch of scraps on the Knicks this year. At this point, it's either take the Knicks scraps or take nothing. This should be interesting next summer.

4) JaMarcus Russell Arrested For Sippin' On The Sizzurp
I know this has nothing to do with the NBA, but I didn't wanna dedicate a whole post to this loser. Then again, JaMarcus has about as much chance of joining a NBA team as he does of joining a NFL team at this point.

Anyway, he was arrested for possession of a control substance –codeine syrup– at his home in Alabama. He has since been released on $2,500 bond. It's funny this would come up when I was JUST talking about how played out this stuff was in pop culture last week. This guy is a sad case and is definitely on pace to surpass Ryan Leaf on the QB bust scale.

Alicia Keys Falls On Stage At Essence Festival

Even though I hate to see this happen to her, she's really been begging for it since she climbed her pregnant behind up on that piano at the BET Awards. If Alicia is gonna keep performing, I suggest she remain seated at the piano. I mean, what's the point of her standing anyway?? It's not like she has a dance routine or it makes her sing better, she should gladly sit at the piano and play.

I must say though, she took that fall like a G lol.

Eminem Speaks On Why He Didn't Diss Kanye & Lil Wayne

I know Em doesn't want to disrespect Kanye and Lil Wayne, but dissing them definitely would NOT have been career suicide for him. He's Eminem! As big as Yeezy and Weezy are, he's still bigger.

I do know what he's talking about though. Kanye and Wayne aren't the type of rappers to make diss records, but their fanbases are big enough to crush most naysayers and people trying to do them by making a backlash. That's what Eminem is saying, he figured if he dissed one, or both of them, their fans would make a backlash and it would crush Eminem. Fortunately for Em, his fanbase is much bigger and much stronger so that could never happen. Doesn't really matter now though because it's all history.

50 Cent Speaks On Weight Loss

And of course he makes a few excuses as to why Before I Self Destruct didn't sell. I almost thought he wasn't gonna complain since the album came out 8 months ago, but nope, he still did it.

This go-round he uses a new excuse for rappers: "my album leaked before it was supposed to." Original. Fif says it leaked 4 weeks ahead of its release, but I don't remember it being that extreme. I'm pretty sure Drake's album and Eminem's album leaked way before they were release and that didn't effect their sales at all. Interesting.

Look, I'm not mad at 50, I still fucks with him, but I just wish he'd admit he's not as hot musically as he once was and call it a day.
