Random News Shit: Free Agency Friday Edition

Chicago Bears-signed free agent Julius Peppers talks with the media during an NFL football news conference at Halas Hall on Friday, March 5, 2010, in Lake Forest, Ill.
1) Julius Peppers Signs 6-Year, $91.5 Deal With Bears
And out of that $91.5 million, $42 million is guaranteed. Hopefully this works out for the Bears, but I could easily see it not. Not saying Peppers isn't a great player, but he's been known to take seasons off. Welp, better the Bears than the Cowboys, I say.

Now in addition to overpaying bringing in Peppers, the Bears also signed RB Chester Taylor and TE Brandon Manumaleuna today. Not bad moves, but I've gotta wonder why Chester felt Chicago was the best landing spot for him?? If he didn't want to split time and wanted to become a starter, why not go to a team without a clear cut starter like San Diego or Washington?? Matt Forte is only entering his 3rd season, he's not going anywhere and is still the man in Chicago.

2) Cards Trade Anquan Boldin To Ravens
Wow, wow, wow! Watch out for the Ravens next year! Joe Flacco has got to be through the roof right now. Hell, the entire city of Baltimore must be. I mean, not only did they just acquire one of the top WRs in the league, but they did so by only giving up 3rd and 4th round picks (a far cry from my Cowboys' infamous 1st, 3rd, and 5th for Roy Williams). I'm jealous.

(Side note: I totally wouldn't have minded giving up our 3rd & 4th round picks this year to pair Miles Austin with Anquan Boldin and cutting our losses with Roy Williams. Hell, we probably could've thrown Roy in the deal and note have had to give up 1 of those picks. Dammit, dammit, dammit!)

3) Jake Delhomme Released By Panthers
Congrats to my homie Justin, your nightmare is finally over lol. This is a year overdue at the least, Delhomme is probably more done than even LaDainian Tomlinson.

Here's the question though, why cut him?? You're still going to have to pay him the $12.5 from the retarded extension you gave him last year, so why not keep him on the bench to mentor Matt Moore?? Then again, maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea because I have no idea what Jake was seeing out there the past couple years lol.

It'll be interesting to see if he catches on anywhere else. You never know.

4) Jets Get Antonio Cromartie From Chargers
Looks like the Jets repeated what happened in the playoffs and steal one from the Chargers. New York pairs All-Pro Cromartie with the ultimate shutdown corner in Darrelle Revis for just a 3rd round pick (that could turn into a 2nd round pic) in the 2011 draft. That's right, they didn't even have to give up anything in this year's draft! The AFC East just got that much more tough.

5) Brandon Marshall To Visit With Seahawks
Why?? Brandon does know the Seahawks basically don't even have a QB, right?? There's plenty better destinations for him (*cough* Dallas *cough*) so I don't put much stock in this visit.

6) Dolphins Sign Karlos Dansby, Release Joey Porter, Akin Ayodele & Gibril Wilson
Dansby leaves Arizona for Miami and a 5-year $43 million contact with $22 million in guarantees. I don't think its too early to say they overpaid a tad.

Anyway, Porter gets his wish of being released, and I'm sure he'll be picked up soon enough, but he takes LB Akin Ayodele and S Gibril Wilson with him. I'm not sure why the 'Phins cut ties with Wilson, he was only on the team for one year.

7) Giants Agree To Terms With Antrel Rolle
Dammit! I wanted Rolle in Dallas and not he's going to our rivals in New York! I'm really pissed about this and I don't even think we were in contention to bring him in lol.

Anyway, the deal is 5-years and worth $37 million.

8) Vince Wilfolk Gets New Deal From New England
I can't believe it, the Patriots actually paid somebody! The extension is over a 5-year period and is worth $40 million, making Wilfork the highest paid nose tackle in the league. Congrats are in order for the money, but even more congrats are in order for convincing the Pats to give somebody what they're worth.

9) Josh Cribbs Gets His Deal Re-Structured
The Browns redid the last 3 years of their best player's contact and its now worth a max of $18.5 million with $7 million in guaranteed money. Not bad, especially for a kick returner. I just hope they don't try to make him a big part of their offense to justify it because that has totally ruined Devin Hester's career.

10) Colts Re-Sign Gary Brackett
The new deal is also for 5-years and is good for $33 million. Smart move by the Colts, what else can I say??

11) Lions Sign Kyle Vanden Bosch, Nate Burleson
Vanden Bosch gets 4 years for $26 million, and Burleson gets 5 years for $25 million. Nice moves by the Lions.

12) Falcons Agree To Terms With CB Dunta Robinson
The details of this deal haven't emerged yet, but just know Dunta Robinson is now an Atlanta Falcon.
