NFL Winners & Losers: Week 16

1) Cowboys (9-5) @ Redskins (4-10)
What a win last week for the Cowboys, right?? I'm tempted to just stop writing now and pick the Redskins and try to double up on the patented reverse jinx.

Anyway, you wanna know how Dallas can make that huge win last Saturday irrelevant?? By coming out flat Sunday and losing this game.

Now I know what you're thinking, "Did you see Washington Monday night against the Giants?? They're done!" If only it was that simple my friends. Take my word for it, it wasn't too long ago that the Giants looked dead coming off a 26-6 spanking by the Broncos, and manage to put it all together to beat a flat Cowboys team the very next week. The Redskins aren't dead yet, not with the Cowboys coming to town.

Here's what I'm banking on: 1) Dallas is the better team. They played like a different group against the New Orleans, a group with heart, and hopefully that can carry over. 2) Washington is 0-6 in night games under Jim Zorn. Cowboys winners, Redskins losers.

(Side note: I've heard so much this past week about the lack of interceptions Romo has thrown this season, so look for him to throw at least 1 Sunday.)

2) Ravens (8-6) @ Steelers (7-7)
Everybody is talking about how the Ravens have righted the ship and how much better they are now than when they got whipped 27-14 to Green Bay a few weeks back. Uhh, right. They were .500 until they got the Lions and Bears at home. Now they're 8-6. Wow.

I'm not saying the Ravens suck, I'm just saying lets wait a minute before we lock them into a playoff spot.

On the other side, I think the Steelers are ready to make some noise and finally "unleash some hell here in December" as Mike Tomlin so eloquently promised at the top of the month. Big Ben won't throw for 500 yards again (and he probably won't need to), but if the Ravens could barely beat Dennis Dixon in Week 12, they won't beat Ben in Week 16. Steelers winners, Ravens losers.

(Side note: Why were people saying Mike Tomlin going for the onside kick late in the 1st was a bad?? It made perfect sense to me. If you kick the ball off regular the Packers go 80 yards and score on you and leave you no time on the clock. If you onside kick there you either A) get the ball back, or B) give the Packers a short field so if they do score (as they had been doing all night), you have some time left to answer. Heads up move. Smart move.)

3) Texans (7-7) @ Dolphins (7-7)
There are so many 7-7 teams in the AFC 2 were bound to face off. The winner lives to fight another week, the loser is toast.

As high powered as the Texans offense is, the barely came away with a win last week in St. Louis. Maybe they forgot they were technically still alive in the playoff hunt?? Well either way, if they play like that again they won't have to forget because them being eliminated will be a reality. I'll take the Dolphins at home. Dolphins winners, Texans losers.

(Side note: If these past 2 games go off as I've picked, that'd set up a great 8-7 battle for a playoff spot between the Steelers and Dolphins in Week 17. Fingers crossed!)

4) Chargers (11-3) @ Titans (7-7)
Coming into this game, I was seriously considering taking the Titans. I figured the Chargers had nothing to play for and the Titans did. Here's a few things I realized:

1) As it turns out, the Chargers don't have the #2 seed locked up like I thought after beating the Bengals. They need this win to do so.

2) Keith Bullock is out for the season. He left the game last week right around the time the Dolphins started to make a run. That's a bad sign for the Titans' defense.

3) Somehow the Chargers are 3.5 point underdogs in this game. I'm sure the Bolts won't take kindly to being labeled underdogs to a 7-7 team, especially after winning 9 straight. What the Titans have done is nice, but again, Phil Rivers has NEVER lost a game played in the month of December.

Chargers winners, Titans losers.

5) Broncos (8-6) @ Eagles (10-4)
There are plenty player/team reunions this weekend (Larry Johnson and Kansas City, Fred Taylor and Jacksonville, Kurt Warner and St. Louis, etc.), but possibly none bigger than Brian Dawkins' return to Philly. I don't like the Broncos, but nobody knows the Eagles' defense like Dawkins does. For that reason, I give them a chance in this game (a slim chance, but yet and still, a chance). At the end of the day the Eagles have too much offense for a team who couldn't stop JaMarcus Russell from scoring a game winning TD. Eagles winners, Broncos losers.

6) Panthers (6-8) @ Giants (8-6)
What a difference having a competent QB makes. Matt Moore has led the Panthers to 2 wins out of 3 games since Jake Delhomme went out. Moore has thrown just 1 INT in his 3 games, compared to Delhomme's 18 in 11. Steve Smith has flourished as well with Moore under center. Smith has 14 catches, 318 yards, and 2 TDs over the past 3 games, he had 46, 604, and 4 in the first 11.

On the other hand, the Giants appear to be playing better coming off that 45-12 beat down of the Redskins Monday, but who really knows?? I think this game is actually about even and could go either way.

I'll give the edge to New York though because they're still in the playoff hunt and this game means so much more to them as they fight to stay alive. Giants winners, Panthers losers.

7) Jets (7-7) @ Colts (14-0)
This game is SO hard to pick. If it was Week 9 instead of Week 16, you'd be out of your mind to not pick the Colts, but with everything wrapped up, you really don't know how much the Colts' stars are going to play. Will the Jets do what ESPN's Football Today host Jeremy Green suggested and take an early 15 yard late hit penalty on Peyton Manning to send a message to Jim Caldwell to get him out of the game?? It'll be interesting to see, but I'll stay safe and take the Indy. Colts winners, Jets losers.

8) Jaguars (7-7) @ Patriots (9-5)
There's nothing really to talk about here. The Jags aren't going to win. That's it. The Pats aren't that dominant, but the Jags just suck. Patriots winners, Jaguars losers.

9) Seahawks (5-9) @ Packers (9-5)
The Packers probably should have won last week, but they'll make up for it Sunday against the Seahawks who have officially given up on the season. Packers winners, Seahawks losers.

10) Bills (5-9) @ Falcons (7-7)
Ryan Fitzpatrick is gonna be a game time decision, and Trent Edwards has already been ruled out. Do you know what that means?? You guess it, Brian Broham time! Falcons winners, Bills losers.

11) Buccaneers (2-12) @ Saints (13-1)
The 1999 Bronces and 2005 Colts both won their first 13 games and lost their 14th. The Saints became the 3rd team to join that list. Here's where the comparisons stop: those other 2 teams also lost their 15th game of the season, the Saints won't. Saints winners, Bucs losers.

12) Vikings (11-3) @ Bears (5-9)
Here's exactly what the Vikings need to quiet all the Favre/Childress talk, a chance to play Jay Cutler and the super dead Bears. Then again, the Panthers were dead when they played last week. Oh well, whatever. Expect the Vikes to do a lot of running with Adrian Peterson in this game because cold weather isn't Favre's best friend. Vikings winners, Bears loser.

(Side note: Its a shame ESPN can't flex games like NBC Sunday nights because instead of this being a Favre vs. Cutler shoot out, as thought when the schedule was made, it'll be the "when will Lovie Smith get fired?" game. Sad.)

13) Chiefs (3-11) @ Bengals (9-5)
Here's where the Bengals get that win for Chris Henry. Bengals winners, Chiefs losers.

14) Rams (1-13) @ Cardinals (9-5)
The Cards know they have the division wrapped up and it showed last week. I wouldn't be surprised if the Rams steal a victory...but I'm not brave enough to take them. Cardinals winners, Rams losers.

15) Lions (2-12) @ 49ers (6-8)
Bad game,I'm not even gonna analyze it. 49ers winners, Lions losers.

16) Raiders (5-9) @ Browns (3-11)
There's been a few games this year where 2 terrible teams teamed up to make a decent game. The Raiders have yet to be involved in that and they won't here. Expect an ugly, pathetic low scoring game. Who will throw more picks out of Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye will be more compelling. Raiders winners, Browns losers.

This Week: 10-6 (.625)
Overall Record: 152-87 (.636)
Last Week: 8-8 (.500)

Thursday Billboard Update - 12/24/09

Susan Boyle - I Dreamed A Dream
Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream has a strangle hold on the charts right now moving 661,200 and denying Alicia Keys the #1 spot for the first time in her career. That's right, Element Of Freedom comes in #2 despite selling 419,700 in its first week. Also making the top 10 is Robin Thicke's Sex Therapy at #9 with 123,200 sold.

Still the same top 10, but there is a new #1. This has been in the making for a few weeks, but after 5 weeks on top Jay-Z's Empire State Of Mind gets bumped by Ke$ha's TiK Tok. Its a really terrible song, but whatever, people like what they like.

  • Rihanna's Hard featuring Young Jeezy is on the verge of cracking the top 10 next week with a 21-11 rise this week.
  • Young Money's BedRock is also threatening the top 10 as it slides 20-12 (kinda like the movie lol...sorry, lame joke).
  • Alicia Keys' Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart skies 29 spots 56-27.
  • Eminem's Hell Breaks Loose is this week's top debut at #29. The track can be found on the Relapse: Refill.

R.I.P. Brittany Murphy

U.S. actress Brittany Murphy waves as she arrives at the Sydney premiere of the movie "Happy Feet" at Fox Studios in Sydney in this December 10, 2006 file photo. Murphy, who starred in such films as "Just Married" and "Uptown Girls" but saw her fortunes fade in recent years, died on December 20, 2009 after going into cardiac arrest, the Los Angeles Times reported. She was 32.
I'm sure everyone has heard what happened to Brittany by now, but its still sad and I wanted to pay my respect. Its gonna be a bit weird the next time "Clueless" comes on cable (yes, I watch it every time it does, eff you), or when I'm watching "8 Mile" and wanna laugh when Brittany oddly licks her palm during the sex scene. Its just sad.

Something sounds a little fishy about this whole story because, as I said when Pimp C died, 32 year-old people don't just die of natural causes. Something happened. I'm not saying she was murdered, but something just isn't right. R.I.P. Brittany.

NFL Winners & Losers: Week 15

Cowboys
1) Bengals (9-4) @ Chargers (10-3)
There's 11:28 left in the 4th quarter. We're coming off of a 10-15 minute delay where Cowboys' LB DeMarcus Ware was scrapped to a board with a neck brace and carted off the field. The crowd is cheering so loud it causes a 5 yard false start penalty when play resumes. The defense is getting pumped to make a stop for their fallen leader.

What happens next?? The Chargers use 2 plays to score a touchdown and deflate the Cowboys confidence and momentum on their way to a 20-17 victory.

Why do I mention that?? Its because the Chargers are heartless. Yeah, they were happy Ware was okay, but they were about to within the emotional boost and handle business. That element is gonna be key Sunday as they play the Bengals after the Chris Henry tragedy. Yeah, San Diego will sympathize with Cincy before the game, but once the clock starts its all business.

Another thing, football is a game of focus, and I'm not sure how focused the Bengals are right now. This isn't a coach's wife dying, its a teammate, one of your peers. Its not as easy to get your mind off of. Even with the #2 seed and a playoff bye week hanging in the balance. Chargers winners, Bengals losers.

2) Giants (7-6) @ Redskins (4-9)
This is truly my game of the week. If the Giants win this game, the Cowboys are essentially done.

Now, what I'm about to say is a bit of a stretch, but hear me out: the Redskins should take a serious look at helping the Cowboys by winning this game and losing next week if they want Mike Shanahan coaching them next season. Look, if the Cowboys make the playoffs and make some noise, Wade Phillips will remain in Dallas. More importantly, Mike Shanahan won't be replacing him and will likely take the job in Washington. If we miss the playoffs, obviously Wade is a goner and I'm sure Shanahan would rather coach the Cowboys than the Redskins. See, Redskins fans, you kinda need us to make the playoffs and the only shot we have is if the Giants lose this game and we beat the you guys next week. All I'm saying is think about it.

With that being said, I think the Skins do do my Boys a favor and eliminate the G-Men in D.C. this Monday night. Redskins winners, Giants losers.

3) Dolphins (7-6) @ Titans (6-7)
The big story in this game isn't even football related, its race related. No, not black-white race, on the playground with no shoes race. Evidently Chris Johnson challenged Tedd Ginn Jr. to a foot race down Ocean Drive over the summer and Teddy didn't show.

I'm more so in the Jason Taylor on PTI the other day school of thought, because this is stupid. Its a lose-lose-lose for Ginn. If he raced CJ and lost he'd be deemed slow, if he doesn't show he looks like he's scared, and if he races and gets hurt everybody is calling him a moron. He can't win for losing.

As far as the game goes, I have really no idea who's gonna win, or even who has the upper hand. As of right now, I'm gonna take the Titans since they're at home, but that is definitely subject to change because we still don't know if Vince Young is gonna go. Titans winners, Dolphins losers.

4) 49ers (6-7) @ Eagles (9-4)
The 49ers are coming off of an improbable win over the Cardinals Monday, but this week everything is going against them. They're a west coast team going east for a 1pm game in 30° weather on a short week. Not exactly the ingredients for a upset win. It'd be nice if they did win...but they won't. Eagles winners, 49ers losers.

5) Packers (9-4) @ Steelers (6-7)
This should be a good game, but I'm taking a week off from picking the Steelers after they burned me 3 of the past 4 weeks (only reason it was 4 for 4 was because I picked the Ravens in Week 12). Plus, any team coming off a back to back loses against the Raiders and Browns don't deserve my pick.

I'd also like to see the stat on win/loss percentage for teams the week after one of their players rips their own fans. I'm sure its not encouraging. Packers winners, Steelers losers.

6) Patriots (8-5) @ Bills (5-8)
The only places the Patriots have won this season are in New England and Old England (note that their Week 7 game against the Bucs was played across the pond).

I feel like this game could go either way. Tom Brady is hurt, and Randy Moss may have given up on the season. If its cold and windy enough this game could turn into a field possession running contest. I'll give the Pats a slight edge. Patriots winners, Bills losers.

7) Raiders (4-9) @ Broncos (8-5)
Lets play a game of "JaMarcus Russell is so bad..." with Raiders head coach Tom Cable. Take it away coach.

Tom Cable: "Okay, JaMarcus Russell is so bad Bruce Gradkowski broke both of his knees and I rather start some loser named Charlie Frye who's evidently on our roster somewhere."

Me: "Nice. My turn. JaMarc... [interrupted by coach Cable]"

TC: "No wait, I got another one. It'll be quick. Okay, okay, JaMarcus Russell is so bad, we just signed J.P. Losman for insurance in case that Frye kid gets hurt! Boom! I'm on fire tonight!"

Me: "You're a stone cold dude Mr. Cable."

TC: "Yes, I'm a bad, bad man...not as bad as JaMarcus Russell of course."

Me: "That goes without saying. Aight, JaMarcus Russ... [interrupted by Cable once again]"

TC: "Wait, wait, I got one more!"

Me: "Damn homie, its my got damn turn!"

TC: "What?! Is that a threat??"

Me: "Threat? Huh, wha... No!"

TC: [Stands up, stares angrily for .5 seconds and lands a right hand punch.]

Me: "What the fuck coach??"

TC: [Points to Randy Hanson huddle silently in the corner in the fetal position.]

Me: "Enough said, thanks for playing coach."

Denver winners, Raiders losers.

8) Bears (5-8) @ Ravens (7-6)
I don't think the Bears could beat anybody at or over .500, and the Ravens are on a mission. Bad mix. Ravens winners, Bears losers.

9) Vikings (11-2) @ Panthers (5-8)
It feels like the NFL probably should've flexed this game out of the Sunday night slot. They couldn't find any other game with playoff implications to sub for this?? (Bengals @ Chargers anyone??)

I guess anything could still with Brett Favre playing out in the cold, but there's no way the Vikings lose this game. Vikings winners, Panthers losers.

10) Falcons (6-7) @ Jets (7-6)
Don't take that performance again New Orleans last week the wrong way, without Matt Ryan and Michael Turner Atlanta is mediocre at best. Mark Sanchez should be back for the Jets as well so as long as it doesn't a) slide head first or b) throw 5 INTs, the Jets should be fine. Jets winners, Falcons losers.

11) Cardinals (8-5) @ Lions (2-11)
Uhh, yeah. Cardinals winners, Lions losers.

12) Texans (6-7) @ Rams (1-12)
Okay, let me get this straight: St. Louis missed practice this week due to swine flu?? And they're gonna let this team take the field Sunday??

I say lets just cancel the game, give the win to the Texans, and move on. Seriously, the only thing to be determined in this contest is how many touchdowns will Houston win by. Texans winners, Rams losers.

13) Buccaneers (1-12) @ Seahawks (5-8)
Josh Freeman the past 2 weeks: 0 touchdowns, 8 interceptions. Add that to the long trip from Tampa to Seattle and I say the 'Hawks get their 6th win. Seahawks winners, Bucs losers.

14) Browns (2-11) @ Chiefs (3-10)
This game should be delightful, you know in a "I wish I was Ralphie from A Christmas Story so I could shoot my eyes out with an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle" kind of way. Chiefs winners, Browns losers.

Thursday Game

1) Colts (13-0) @ Jaguars (7-6)
I guess the NFL was expecting another Jaguars offensive lineman to get gunned down before the season and be well enough to come back for this game to give his team an emotional boost. That's all I could come up with as an explanation as to why we're getting Colts at Jags 1 year after we got it last year. (Side note: its actually its 364 days but hell, close enough). Colts winners, Jaguars losers.

Saturday Game

1) Cowboys (8-5) @ Saints (13-0)
Nobody really thinks the Cowboys stand a chance, do they?? I mean, yeah, the Saints have been shaky lately, but that was on the road. This game is in New Orleans.

The Saints' average margin of victory in the Superdome is 15.3 points. Expect a blowout. Saints winners, Cowboys losers.

This Week: 8-8 (.500)
Overall Record: 142-81 (.637)
Last Week: 13-3 (.813)

Random News Shit: Tiger Woods Edition

Tiger Woods
Before I tackle these stories, I want to tell everybody to read Jason Whitlock's column on Tiger Woods. I read it last week and I must say, it is an exceptional piece of work, or as some would say, the truth!

1) Tiger Woods Voted AP Athlete Of The Decade
And you know what?? Its not even really close. Tiger dominated his sport for the entire decade. To me, Roger Federer would be #2 over Lance Armstrong because Lance didn't even compete for the entirety of the decade. Well anyway, congrats to Tiger.

2) Doctor Arrested For PEDs Linked To Tiger Woods
Okay, lets stop it! This is complete bullshit and everybody knows it. They know good and damn well Tiger was not juicing and this "link" is faulty at best. Tommy Craggs of Deadspin really breaks in down in this column, you should really check it out.

Besides that, what would be the benefit of Tiger taking PEDs?? The man plays golf, golf is a really a game of putting, and putting is a skill, not something you can develop chemically. The media is just trying to pile on Tiger at this point.

3) Nike, Tag Heuer continue sponsorship with Tiger Woods
And really, why wouldn't they?? Tiger will be fine and if they drop him now, they'll just be running to pick him back up as soon as he wins his next major. Tiger didn't commit a crime and he isn't a political figure running on a platform of family values, he'll be fine.

4) Elin Allegedly Divorcing Tiger
People can make jokes about Tiger being dumb for doing what he did, but he was smart enough to get Elin to sign a prenup. She's still gonna get some money, but she sure as hell ain't getting half lol.

Tom Brady Comes To Randy Moss' Defense
Well that's a good thing for them, but anybody who watched that game or saw those highlights can clearly see Randy was half-assing it. The thing I don't get though, is why the Panthers' DBs were talking shit in the first place?? 1) If you're an opposing DB and Randy Moss only has 1 catch for 16 yards, why wouldn't you just say you shut Randy Moss down?? 2) While Moss was dogging it, they STILL couldn't stop Wes Welker as he went for 10 catches and 105 yards. Makes no sense to me, but oh well.

Man Pleads Guilty In Erin Andrews Case

He agreed to serve 27 months, but the judge will have the final say. That's about right to me. And even though this guy is a sicko, I appreciate what he did for the internet and all Erin Andrews fans lol.

Tracy McGrady Makes Season Debut
Can you believe Tracy is still only 30 years-old?? He should still be in his prime right now, but he's been damn near slowed to a hault by injuries. Maybe he needs to do what I suggested to Greg Oden and have his agent land him a gig in Phoenix.

Now, the part that I don't get in all this is how Tracy loss his #1 jersey to Trevor Ariza?? Yeah, check it out, Tracy is wearing a #3 jersey, and Trevor is wearing #1. I actually noticed Trevor was wearing the #1 a few games before Tracy came back, but either way, isn't that weird?? Tracy has worn #1 for his entire career, why they switch now?? I mean, its not like Tracy left the team and came back to somebody wearing his number (as is the case with Ben Wallace who is now back with the Pistons, but has to wear the #6), he never left the roster. He wasn't a free agent or anything. Its not a big deal at the end of the day, but I just don't get it, especially since Trevor was the new comer AND he wore the #3 last year with the Lakers while #1 was available. Okay, I gotta move on, I'm spending way too much time on this lol.

December 16th

Angels Lands Series MVP, Hideki Matsui
Well it was probably inevitable that the Yankees would let him go, but the Angels defnitely upgraded their DH position because Vlad Guerrero barely looked like he was moving when he ran the bases last season. It was just sad really.

Anyway, Matsui got a one-year $6 million deal.

Phillies Get Halladay, Sends Lee To Mariners
This trade was dumb to me. I mean, Roy Halladay is a great pitcher, but Cliff Lee had already proven he was lights out the entire time he was with Philly. I hope this trade blows up in the Phillies' face.

December 17th

Ocho Cinco Wants to Fight Merriman
Had Chris Henry not passed, this would be probably be the big storyline going in to Sunday's match-up for the right to the #2 seed in the playoffs. Its still kinda funny though.

Vinny Cerrato Resigns From Redskins Position
This is probably best for the Redskins. They have already brought in Bruce Allen to replace him, and are now, reportedly, in talks with Mike Shanahan. The word on ESPN is that Mike Shanahan turned down the Bills job because they wouldn't bring in Allen. I personally think it was because the Bills sucks, but who knows lol.

Bobby Knight Chides John Calipari In Speech
Here's the quote:

"We've gotten into this situation where integrity is really lacking and that's why I'm glad I'm not coaching," he said. "You see we've got a coach at Kentucky who put two schools on probation and he's still coaching. I really don't understand that."

Thank you! College coaches can practically get away with murder and the players that really make these school their money can't get away with a white lie. Damn shame, but I applaud Bobby Knight for speaking up.

Brian Kelly To Replace Charlie Weis As Notre Dame Head Coach
Yet another reason to hate the NCAA. This is so fucked up! Dez Bryant can't go visit Deion Sanders, but Brian Kelly can interview for, and accept a job at another school during the season. I don't blame those kids at Cincinnati for being pissed, their leader is allowed to abandon them before the biggest game in school history (the Sugar Bowl against Florida). If a kid wants to trade schools, he has to sit out a season, a coach can just leave whenever they feel like it. Again, fucked up!

December 11th

Tiger Woods Leaves Golf Indefinitely
To be fair, Tiger probably wouldn't have played in any of these upcoming small touraments at the top of the year regardless. I say he comes back for the Masters in April. After all, we all know Tiger only cares about the majors.

December 12th

Kobe Bryant Fractures Bone In Right Index Finger
This seemed like a bigger deal back on the 12th when it happened. Definitely more so than it does now, 1 day after he hit 39 and a game-winner against the Bucks in Milwaukee.

Kansas Hires Gill Turner
Its about time the fucked up NCAA benefited a black man.

Penn State's Women Volleyball Team Wins 100th Straight
I'm not down with the NCAA, but I love that women's volleyball! Those fine ass girls in those tiny ass shorts, its great. In fact, we need more women's volleyball on TV. I don't care if it broadcasts on Lifetime, I'd watch! This picture says it all.

...And don't even get me started on beach volleyball! My, my, my!

Mark Ingram Wins 75th Heisman Throphy
A lot of college sports shit late last week, maybe that's why I checked out mentally?? Whatever. Can you believe Ingram was the first player in Alabama history to win the Heisman?? I can't. I mean, of course I don't really care, but that's still pretty remarkable.

December 13th

Brandon Marshall Breaks T.O.'s NFL Record With 21 Catches
This guy is a BEAST! His 21 catches were obviously the most on his team (duh lol), but it was more than the Colts had as a team! The most amazing part of this story is that the Broncos lost. If I told you Brandon Marshall was gonna explode for 21 catches and 200 yards, you would've told me the Colts would suffer their first loss of the season. But they didn't. That says a lot about the Colts.

DeMarcus Ware Carted Off With Neck Sprain
Ware seems to be just fine now and may play Saturday night so this is whatever now.

Random News Shit: Sports Recap 12/4-12/9

Okay, I've obviously been M.I.A. with my keyboard issues (not semen related issues either lol) so I'm gonna try something new in my recap of the big sports stories over the past 2 weeks. Lets give it a go:

December 4th

Nets Get Past Bobcats For First Win
Final score 97-91 as the Nets get 31 and 14 from Brook Lopez and 27 from Courtney Lee. Too bad this couldn't have happened prior to them setting the record for most losses to begin an NBA season. The good news is they now have 2 victories to hang their hat on and need just 8 more to not be dreadful 72-73 76ers. Only 56 more tries to go, good luck gentlemen.

December 5th

Pacquiao Signs Contract To Fight Mayweather, Agrees To 50-50 Split
Its all going down March 13th and I can't wait! I'm not even that into boxing, but this its obviously a match-up I'd pay to see. As of right now I have NO idea who would win. I recently watched the Mayweather-Hatton and saw a lot of areas Pacman could really exploit (not to mention it took him 2 rounds to do to Ricky Hatton what it took Mayweather 10). Then again, Pretty Boy Floyd is undefeated for a reason.

Its just gonna be a great event and I won't be surprised by the victor no matter the outcome.

(Side note: Cowboys Stadium WILL NOT host the fight, though owner Jerry Jones is still interested.)

Greg Oden Done For The Season Again
At this point its just sad. The guy didn't even get touched this time. Maybe a career in the NBA wasn't mean for him?? Whatever the case, the Blazers need to cut their losses now and let him go. Yeah, he's a pretty decent player, but you can't count on him to be around.

If the Blazers do release him (which they won't), Oden's best shot at actually have a career is going to Phoenix. I don't know what they do down there in the desert, but it clearly works. Grant Hill couldn't stay on the court for like 7 or 8 straight season, he goes down to Phoenix and plays all 82 games for the first time in his career last year. Shaq looked done down in Miami before going to Phoenix, and now he looks like he did in Miami up in Cleveland. Greg needs to get his ass in a Suns uniform if he plans on continuing a career in the NBA.

December 7th

Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen Enter NFL Draft
I'm not sure what his draft prospects are at this point, but he'll probably be a first rounder with all the teams out there in need of a QB.

Also entering the draft from Notre Dame is WR Golden Tate, whose name said at the right speed sounds a lot like "golden taint." Probably not the best thing heading into the possibility of rookie hazing. And don't ask why I brought that up, I have no answers for you lol.

December 8th

Plaxico Burress Bid For Work Release Unlikely To Be Granted
Mna, I still feel so bad for Plax. Whenever I think about him, I think about my cousin and all the others in prison over foolishness. My uncle was just on work release and its not so bad, obviously anything is better than being in prison. Hopefully Plax can get on it soon.

Clinton Portis Places On IR
That's too bad for Clint, I sure wish he was suiting up this Monday to play the Giants because I sure need the Redskins to pull off that upset. I hope this isn't the end for him, he's still 28 so he should still have 2-3 years left in him, but these head injuries are just touchy. Best wishes to that man.

Ocho Cinco Fined $30,000 For Sombrero TD Celebration
I might shock some here, but I don't totally disagree with this fine. Hear me out: 1) it was pretty wack/lame/boring and 2) it was mildly racist. Look, I'm one of the least offendable (don't worry, I know its not a word lol) people in the world, but I could see how somebody could take this the wrong way.

(Side note: I had a decent joke about white NFL players and black face, but I'll keep it to myself for now lol.)

December 9th

Eagles Give Andy Reid 3-Year Extension
We still don't know exactly how much this deal is worth, but Reid will reportedly be making around $5-6 million a year. Good for him.

Yankees, Pettitte Agree To 1-Year $11.75 Million Deal
Good for him, good for the Yankees, but this next story is a MUCH bigger splash.

Yankees Steal Curtis Granderson In Trade
It was three-team deal, but the Yanks came out with the big prize in Granderson. Despite his batting average dropping each of the past 2 seasons, Granderson hit 30 homers last year and made his first All-Star team. I say good move!

R.I.P. Chris Henry

FILE - In this Oct. 4, 2009, file photo, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry looks on during pre-game warmups against the Cleveland Browns in an NFL football game in Cleveland. Henry has died, one day after suffering serious injuries upon falling out of the back of a pickup truck in what authorities describe as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.
By now you all know what went down with Chris and the "domestic situation" with fiance Loleini Tonga. While the media is so locked in on Tiger Woods, there is real domestic issues like this happening every day. Obviously we don't know exactly what happened and what led up to this unfortunate situation, but it sure makes Tiger's infidelity seem minor.

Anyway, Chris was only 26 years-old and its almost surreal to think that the guy I've made fun of in the past is dead. Oddly enough, they say Loleini helped Chris turn his life around, so its even crazier that she helped end it. My heart just goes out to his family, friends, and teammates. My heart also goes out to Loleini's family and friends because on top of the obvious grief, they also have to deal with the very real possibility that she get brought up on charges.

Tragic. Truly tragic.

Thursday Billboard Update - 12/17/09

Susan Boyle - I Dreamed A Dream
Susan Boyle and her I Dreamed A Dream are still looking dominant moving another 582,000 while Andrea Bocelli is no slouch either with another 400,000. Chris Brown's comeback album Graffiti does 101,900. That looks about right. Expect this album to disappear into Billboard oblivion sooner than later. Gucci Mane's The State Vs. Radric Davis round out the top 10 with 90,000 sold. Can we still fronting like he's a major player in the game now??

Numbers 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10 are all the same, and the other slots only moved 1 way up or down. The end.

This Week In Flops 12/15/09

A Surprisingly slow album release day for a December. Probably fitting for the way my website has been looking lately. My keyboard is SHIT! But I'll be back full swing soon. Lets do this for now.

Alicia Keys - The Element of Freedom
Do people care that Alicia Keys is dropping this album?? I mean, I know she's a great talent, but the interest just doesn't seem to be there this go-round. (Could you imagine what it'd be like if not for the success of Empire State Of Mind?? Potentially scary.) Its gotta be either 1 of 2 things: 1) Her songs are boring and are started to all sound the same or 2) people are that turned off by her homewreckery (Fiyah word).

Maybe its a little bit of both?? Either way Alicia might as well get ready now for the lowest sales week in her career. I'll give her 160-190k.

Robin Thicke - Sex Therapy
Do you think Robin Thicke is still sore from being fucked by all the rappers featured on this album?? I mean seriously, I don't think I've ever heard a worst collection of unnecessary features in my life. And why were there so many features anyway?? An album named Sex Therapy probably shouldn't have any rap features, let alone 5.

Anyway, I think interest in Robin Thicke is up right now, but the promo for this album is definitely lacking. Besides Trey Songz, I'd say Robin Thicke is the ladies favorite right now, but I didn't even know the album was dropping until it leaked last week. That's never a good sign. I'll go with 80-120k, but wouldn't be surprised if it were more or less.

NFL Winners & Losers: Week 14

Chargers @ Cowboys
1) Chargers (9-3) @ Cowboys (8-4)
With a belly flop last week and a trip to New Orleans looming next Saturday, this is about as close to a must-win as you can get. If the Cowboys don't get a win hear, they'll be forced to win both of their last games to make the playoffs (yes, I'm already counting next week's game as a loss).

Here's the good news:

1) The Chargers are 5-13 in the second game of back to back road games this decade. After a easy win over the Browns last week, maybe the Bolts slip up?

2) Nick Folk has missed more field goals this season than in his first 2 combined, and Dallas is finally making a change in the kicking game. Unfortunately its not at kicker, but at holder. Former holder, punter Mat McBriar, admitted to never feeling comfortable at holder, even going as far as blaming himself for a few of the misses with bad holds. This week Tony Romo volunteered to hold for the first time since... the 2006 Pro Bowl (that's right, after the botched snap against Seattle in the wild card game, he held for the NFC in the Pro Bowl). Hopefully a new holder will help our cause. It also brings in the possibility for some fake FG attempts. Its worth a try.

Now the bad:

1) The Chargers have won 15 straight in December and their last loss was December 31, 2005.

2) The Chargers play a base 3-4 defense and the Cowboys' offense has struggled against the 3-4 this season despite seeing it everyday in practice. You may remember our other games against 3-4's, a loss to Denver, an overtime win over Kansas City, and a loss to Green Bay.

I'll be honest, no reserve jinx, no bullshit, the Cowboys can't win. I wish we could, but we can't. Chargers winners, Cowboys losers.

2) Eagles (8-4) @ Giants (7-5)
I went back forth for days looking at this match-up and trying to figure out which team winning would benefit the Cowboys the most. My final verdict: the Giants.

Look, the Cowboys are gonna have to win at least 2 more games to make it to the playoffs. 2 more wins takes them to 10-6. If the Giants lose this game they fall to 7-6 with 3 very winnable games left (at Redskins, Carolina, and at Vikings when they'll probably be resting starters), also making them 10-6.

The Eagles, on the other hand, would be 9-4 with the win and have the inside track to the NFC East title. If Philly wins the East and we tie with the Giants we're out. Period.

That's why we need the Giants to win so they can go 11-5 and win the East which will give us the chance to grab one of the wild cards.

Do I think the Giants will win?? Of course not, they'll fuck us over just like they did last Sunday. Eagles winners, Giants losers.

3) Broncos (8-4) @ Colts (12-0)
If you don't want to see the Colts go undefeated, this is probably the last realistic shot at a loss. After the Broncos, Indy's remaining schedule is at Jaguars, Jets, at Bills. Not exactly murderer's row.

I would give Denver a real shot here if the game was being played at Mile High, but since its not and weather won't be a factor, I can't pick against the team with 0 losses. Colts winners, Broncos losers.

4) Bengals (9-3) @ Vikings (10-2)
While everybody was caught up in the whole "Cowboys collapse in December" thing, everybody forgot about the whole "Brett Favre is 40 and fell apart at this same exact time last year" thing. I smell an upset. Bengals winners, Vikings losers.

5) Dolphins (6-6) @ Jaguars (7-5)
With the Buccaneers completely out of the playoff picture, this is the true battle of Florida. This is North vs. South, and the loser is likely out of the playoff hunt.

This game would be easier to pick if it was being played in Miami. See, even though the Jaguar fans don't come out to support their team, they're still 5-1 in Jacksonville and 2-4 on the road. Ironically enough, the Dolphins share that 2-4 road mark. My mind is telling me to take the better team, but I just can't. (SWITCH PICK: Its 11:18am and I had to change this pick.) Dolphins winners, Jaguars losers.

6) Saints (12-0) @ Falcons (6-6)
Didn't I tell you the Redskins would find a way to lose last week?? And what did they do?? They found a way to lose. Fortunately for the Saints, they won't get that much of a scare this week.

I think last week's 34-7 loss to the Eagles was more of an indictment of how far the Falcons have fallen than how good Philly is. Without Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, and any resemblance of a secondary, Atlanta doesn't stand a chance. Saints winners, Falcons losers.

7) Cardinals (8-4) @ 49ers (5-7)
The 49ers are done. I'm done picking them and letting them burn me. More importantly, I'm done picking against the Cardinals and letting them burn me. Cards winners, Niners losers.

8) Packers (8-4) @ Bears (5-7)
The Packers basically just need to win 2 of their last 4 to make the playoffs. This will be one of them. Packers winners, Bears losers.

9) Panthers (5-7) @ Patriots (7-5)
Okay, well there goes the "Pats never lose back to back games" theory. Is there a "Pats never loses back to back to back games" theory we can fall back on?? Probably not, but its still hard to see them losing 3 straight, especially when the third game is at home and against Matt Moore and the Panthers. Tom Brady's new injury will be a non-factor and Randy Moss and the other Pats getting sent home the other day will be the same. Patriots winners, Panthers losers.

10) Seahawks (5-7) @ Texans (5-7)
Remember when the Texans were 5-3?? Seems so long ago, right?? Well it does to me.

Whatever, if the Texans wanna make it to their annual 8-8 record they had better win this game. They will. Texans winners, Seahawks losers.

11) Redskins (3-9) @ Raiders (4-8)
I'm shocked so many people are picking the Raiders to win this game. In back to back to back weeks the Redskins have nearly taken out the Cowboys, Eagles, and Saints, losing by a combined 7 points. The week before those 3, they actually took out the Broncos. You're telling me they can't break through against the Raiders?? C'mon son! Redskins winners, Raiders losers.

12) Bills (4-8) @ Chiefs (3-9)
A home game against another bad team is usually the perfect time to talk about Arrowhead Stadium and its intimidation factor. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, they're facing a blackout for the first time since December 16th, 1990. That's right, KC has sold out 155 consecutive times, and now that streak is in danger. (Update: KC sells out, avoids a blackout.)

It shouldn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but I think it will somehow, someway effect them and give the Bills a shot at a road win. Bills winners, Chiefs losers.

13) Lions (2-10) @ Ravens (6-6)
After thinking he'd start Thanksgiving day against the Packers, Dante Culpepper will actually get the nod this week. Hopefully he can have a good game so he can help himself find a team next year, but the Ravens shouldn't have much trouble putting the Lions away at home. With the Steelers all but eliminated from the playoffs, I think Baltimore should smell the opportunity, with or without Ed Reed. Ravens winners, Lions losers.

14) Rams (1-11) @ Titans (5-7)
Vince Young is be banged up, but whether its he or Kerry Collins under center, the Rams still can't win. Titans winners, Rams losers.

15) Jets (6-6) @ Buccaneers (1-11)
Mark Sanchez is out so Kellen Clemens will make the start, but the Buccaneers couldn't even stop Matt Moore last week in Carolina. Jets winners, Bucs losers.

Thursday Game

Steelers (6-7) @ Browns (2-11)
I'm not gonna front, I didn't bother picking this game beforehand. I assumed the Steelers would win. They didn't, and I'll take that L.

The Steelers are now done and the NFL will crown a new championship this February. I don't know why, but they just aren't the same team without Troy Polamalu. With Troy they're 4-1, without him they're 2-6. The Madden curse went extra deep this year. Browns won, Steelers lost.

This Week: 13-3 (.813)
Overall Record: 134-73 (.647)
Last Week: 8-8 (.500)

This Week In Flops 12/8/09

Chris Brown
Okay, 181,400 is what Rihanna's Rated R sold last week, so that's Chris Brown's sales ceiling. (Trust me, there's NO chance that he even comes close to that figure, let alone pass it.) The bottom line is the interest just isn't there for Chris and it doesn't help that I've heard nothing but bad reviews since the album leaked. He should still debut in the top 10 selling somewhere between 90-120k.

Snoop Dogg
I listened to Snoop's album over the weekend and I was extremely disappointed World Of A Gangsta and Protocol didn't make the cut. I mean its not like they ran out of space, there's only 14 tracks and 2 of them were the intro and outro. Oh, and one was an absolutely ear torturing song called Pronto with Soulja Boy. That shit is SOOOOOO bad! You telling me the album needed that, but couldn't use those 2 bangers mentioned above?? For that reason I probably won't buy the album, but I'm sure it'll fall in the 80-110k range.

Timbaland
In April of '07, when the first Shock Value dropped, it debuted at #5 and sold 138,000, and that was on the heels of super single Give It To Me with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. That huge #1 hit single doesn't exist these time around some we might see Timmy sitting on the outside of the top 10 next week. I'll say 60-90k.

Gucci Mane
Welp, I guess its time to see how hot Gucci Mane really is to everyone. He's destroyed numerous songs with his shitty features, but he is allegedly in high demand. Realistically, with the way everybody has pretended to be on his dick, he should do Susan Boyle numbers.

..But he won't. I'll give him 45-85k.

Clipse
I haven't listened to the album yet, but I'm sure its good. Its a damn shame nobody knows its dropping though. I mean, I didn't even know until I saw it leak last week. Damn shame, 20-50k

B.G.
Judging by Juvenile's album's perormance (#43, 23,100 sold), I'm gonna guess B.G. does somewhere in the range of 10-20.

(Question: Is B.G. still signed to Grand Hustle??)

NFL Winners & Losers: Week 13

Cowboys @ Giants
1) Cowboys (8-3) @ Giants (6-5)
Once again its on, December is here. And you know what that means for the Dallas Cowboys?? Not a got damn thing! All this December collapsing stuff is waaaay overblown. I mean seriously, people act like some mythical being descends down upon the Cowboys and curses them on December 1st. Get real!

In 2008 we were basically what the Giants are now, an injury-riddled team just trying to make the playoffs. In 2007 we were 2-2 after December 1st, but we rested our starters in the last game and lost to a team who needed the win to make the playoffs. (For a second, lets just pretend like we played our starters the entire game and won. We go 3-2 and have a winning record in December. Then what?? Does that stop us from losing to the eventual Super Bowl champs?? Does that stop us from going 1-4 down the stretch the next year?? Exactly, so why do we tend to make all this hoopla about the Cowboys and the month of December?? I don't get it.)

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

Okay, now as far as the Giants go, like the Michael Jackson movie, this is it. If they lose this game they're playoff hopes will start dimming in a major way. And you know what?? I love it! My Cowboys smell the blood in the water. We know we have a chance to virtually eliminate one of our biggest foes, and I like it.

The only 2 things that worry me about this game is this: Nick Folk has missed 4 of his last 8 field goal attempts and DeMarcus Ware's fractured wrist. Folk is fucking' up, bottom line. I don't trust him at all right now. If he can't make the kicks in Cowboys Stadium with the roof closed, how can I expect him to make them in Giants Stadium in the swirling winds?? Ware is still set to play, but he uses his hands a lot to get around defenders so I'm worried he may be significantly less effective.

That's where my worries end.

I choose to focus on the good things like 1) Eli Manning not exactly making it reign in the month of December himself, especially at home, 2) Brandon Jacobs not having a 100-yard rushing game on the season, 3) Ahmad Bradshaw being hobbled, 4) the Cowboys not allowing a single 100-yard rusher on the season, 5) the Giants secondary being banged up, 6) the Cowboys secondary now starting Mike Jenkins instead of Orlando Scandrick who got torched in the 1st meeting, 7) the Cowboys not allowing a single 100-yard receiver since the Scandrick debacle, and 8) Miles Austin was riding the bench the 1st game and now being the person who makes our offense go. I'm loving it! Cowboys winners, Giants losers.

2) Titans (5-6) @ Colts (11-0)
Never in the history of Week 13 has a 5-6 team posed this much of a threat to an undefeated team. With the way Vince Young and Chris Johnson (who doesn't get nearly enough love in the MVP conversation) have been playing coupled with the way the Colts have let teams lead them into the 4th quarter should make for an interesting affair.

Here's the reality of the situation though: In the Titans 5 game win streak, they've beaten Jacksonville, San Francisco, Buffalo, Houston, and Arizona without Kurt Warner. Not exactly Murderers' Row.The Colts are an entirely different horse to tame. While I doubt the game will be as one-sided as their meeting in Tennessee a few weeks back, I just don't think the Titans have what it takes to beat Indy in Indy. Its a shame to because how great would it be if the Titans ran the table and ended up 10-6 and in the playoffs?? Colts winners, Titans losers.

3) Vikings (10-1) @ Cardinals (7-4)
All signs point to Kurt Warner returning from his concussion this week, but I don't care who is under center for the Cards, the Vikes are still gonna win. Besides, one hit from Jared Allen and Warner could be right back on the sideline. Vikings winners, Cardinals losers.

4) Ravens (6-5) @ Packers (7-4)
It took the Ravens an overtime field goal to beat the immortal Dennis Dixon last Sunday night. I simply don't think they are gonna be able to hang with a Packers team that has essentially been resting since halftime of their Thanksgiving game at Detroit. Aaron Rodgers (another guy who should be getting more MVP consideration) is going to shred the Ravens tired defense Monday night. Packers winners, Ravens losers.

5) Eagles (7-4) @ Falcons (6-5)
This game looked much more enticing before the season started. Michael Vick's return to the city that once loved him. Matt Ryan and Donovan McNabb going head to head for playoff leverage. Michael Turner against Philly's run defense.

This game has NONE of that. Vick barely sees the field, Matty Ice is out with turf toe, and Michael Turner is out with a high ankle sprain he re-injured last week. Plus, the Eagles big play threat, DeSean Jackson, is out as well. So much better before a 2009-10 season snap. Eagles winners, Falcons losers.

6) Patriots (7-4) @ Dolphins (5-6)
The Dolphins fucked up royally! Had they beat Buffalo last Sunday, they'd be 6-5 heading into this game. Win this game, and the Dolphins would be tied for the lead in the AFC East.

Instead, they're 5-6 and about to get beat like a drum because, as we discussed before, Bill Belichick and the Pats don't lose back-to-back games. They just don't. Patriots winners, Dolphins losers.

7) Texans (5-6) @ Jaguars (6-5)
After losing all 3 of the "biggest game in Texans history" I'm predicting Houston bounces back strong. They're all but out of the playoff race and the pressure is off. This is when the Texans truly thrive and rally to finish the season 8-8. Its what they do. Texans winners, Jaguars losers.

8) Saints (11-0) @ Redskins (3-8)
Classic trap game. Coming off a super exciting win over the Pats Monday night, the Saint now have to travel to D.C. and battle the elements. The Saints are gonna be down 4 defenders, and maybe with all the hype, they overlook the 'Skins.

Unfortunately for the Reskins, they can't close, so even if they somehow have a lead heading into the 4th, still expect them to cough it up somehow. Saints winners, Redskins losers.

9) Raiders (3-8) @ Steelers (6-5)
Big Ben is going to play, and sadly for the Raiders, they're secondary will as well. This game will be closer than many might expect, but the Steelers can't afford to drop this game. Steelers winners, Raiders losers.

10) 49ers (5-6) @ Seahawks (4-7)
I really have no stats to back this up, but in this division rivalry, I'm just gonna take the better team. 49ers winners, Seahawks losers.

11) Broncos (7-4) @ Chiefs (3-8)
I don't have the exact stat anymore, but the Broncos have a terrible record playing in Arrowhead. I think it was something like Denver is 1-14 in their last 15 games there. Whatever it was, it wasn't good. I think KC got their upset out of the way a few weeks ago against Pittsburgh though and have reached their quota. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if KC won, but Denver needs this win more. Broncos winners, Chiefs losers.

12) Lions (2-9) @ Bengals (8-3)
The Bengals don't really blow many teams out, but I'm not sure the Lions can hang. I saw them play on Thanksgiving and besides a fumbled gift on the first play of the game, they couldn't move the ball whatsoever. Uhhh, not a good thing. Bengals winners, Lions losers.

13) Chargers (8-3) @ Browns (1-10)
Be serious, this was a win back when the 2009 schedule was released. Chargers winners, Browns losers.

14) Buccaneers (1-10) @ Panthers (4-7)
Its sad it took a broken finger for the Panthers to not play Jake Delhomme. I think Matt Moore gives them a better chance to win, but Carolina is a defeated team at this point so I don't expect much from them. Buccaneers winners, Panthers losers.

15) Rams (1-10) @ Bears (4-7)
The Bears are terrible, but the Rams are just worst. If they couldn't take the Seahawks last week, how can I expect them to take down the Bears?? Bears winners, Rams losers.

Thursday Game

1) Jets (5-6) @ Bills (4-7)
I never got a chance to post my write-up and pick before this game, but basically I talked about Toronto being an anti-homefield advantage. I also touched on not trusting Mark Sanchez, and ultimately picked the Bills. Didn't work out. Jets won, Bills lost.

Last Week: 10-5 (.667)
Overall Record: 121-70 (.634)
This Week:
8-8 (.500)
