Thursday Billboard Update - 8/21/08

Nothing of importance is poppin' off on the Billboard 200 so moving right along...

Looks like Rihanna's Disturbia had a little staying power as it begins its 2nd week at #1, holding off the heat from American Idol loser David Archuleta's Crash which debuted at #2. Last week I predicted that with the rate of growth M.I.A.'s Paper Planes might make a run at #1. Nope, didn't happen. Actually the track fell back a spot 5-6 this week so it just might be downhill from here. It all depends on how strong the roots she's built over the past month are.

The Billboard 200 1-10

1. Jonas Brothers - A Little Bit Longer (1)
2. Various Artists - Mamma Mia! sdtk (1-2)
3. Kid Rock - Rock N Roll Jesus (4-3)
4. Miley Cyrus - Breakout (2-4)
5. Sugarland - Love On The Inside (3-5)
6. Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III (5-6)
7. Coldplay - Viva La Vida (6-7)
8. Various Artists - Camp Rock sdtk (9-8)
9. Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad (12-9)
10. Jonas Brothers - Jonas Brothers (11-10)

  • I fell just a few hundred records short on my prediction, but Yung Berg's debut sold 19,270 and came in at #20. Now, again, why did they hold this record for so long??
  • I didn't even know her record came at, but Janelle Monae's album Metropolis: The Chase Suite debuts at #115 and sold 5,220 copies. That's Bad Boy for ya.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10

1. Rihanna - Disturbia (1-1)
2. David Archuleta - Crush (2)
3. Chris Brown - Forever (2-3)
4. Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl (3-4)
5. Coldplay - Viva La Vida (6-5)
6. M.I.A. - Paper Planes (5-6)
7. Kardinal Offishall - Dangerous (7-7)
8. Rihanna - Take A Bow (4-8)
9. Ne-Yo - Closer (10-9)
10. Taylor Swift - Change (10)
  • Young Jeezy's Put On jumps 5 spots 18-13 and might make a top 10 run in a couple weeks when his album comes out.
  • Chris Brown's Dreamer debuts at #16.
