Thursday Billboard Update - 5/8/08

No surprise here, Madonna wraps up her 7th #1 with Hard Candy moving 280,000. Lyfe Jennings far exceeds expectations as his third album Lyfe Change debuts at #4 with 80,000 sold. The Roots also exceed my expectations as their new album Rising Down debuts at #6 with 54,000 and finally puts Hip-Hop back in the top 10!

Pretty stable at the top of the Hot 100 as Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love remains #1, Lil Wayne's Lollipop remains #2, and Jordin Sparks' No Air remains #3. There were 2 top 10 exits this week as Chris Brown gets his wig pushed back x2 with both With You and last week's top debut Forever slide to the teens.

The Billboard 200 1-10

1. Madonna - Hard Candy
2. Mariah Carey - E=MC²
3. Leona Lewis - Spirit
4. Lyfe Jennings - Lyfe Change
5. Def Leppard - Songs From The Sparkle Lounge
6. The Roots - Rising Down
7. Portishead - Third
8. Mudcrutch - Mudcrutch
9. Various Artists - NOW 27
10. Tim McGraw - Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2

  • Terrible week for Lil Mama as her VYP: Voice Of The Young People debuts at #25 with just 18,600 sold. I guess young people don't want her speaking for them lol. Now, somebody tell me why they just didn't put this out when Lip Gloss was poppin'???
  • My girl Estelle's album Shine debuts on the U.S. charts at #38 with 14,900. I still need to go cop that, I love that album!
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10

1. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love (1-1)
2. Lil Wayne - Lollipop (2-2)
3. Jordin Sparks - No Air (3-3)
4. Usher - Love In This Club (5-4)
5. Ray-J - Sexy Can I (6-5)
6. Madonna - 4 Minutes (4-6)
7. Mariah Carey - Touch My Body (7-7)
8. Natasha Bedingfield - Pocketful Of Sunshine (19-8)
9. Sara Bareilles - Love Song (8-9)
10. Jesse McCartney - Leavin' (14-10)
  • Danity Kane finally looks posed to take a spot in the top 10 with Damaged next week as it sits just outside at #11 this week.
  • I'm telling you, Lil Wayne BETTER sell at least 500,000 in his first week because he's lookin dominate on Billboard with less than stellar track. Not only is Lollipop chillin' at #2, but A Milli jumps 29 spots 60-31 this week. There's no excuse for him to not do Kanye numbers whenever his album drops.
  • Madonna's Neptune produced Give It 2 Me is this week's top debut at #57. If it sounds anything like the Beat Goes On remix then I expect it to do very well.
  • Busta Rhymes' Linkin Park featured first single We Made It debuts at #65 this week.
  • Keyshia Cole's Heaven Sent debuts at #83.
  • Sean Kingston's There's Nothin debuts at #92.
