Little Brother - Getback (Review)

Little Brother is a group most people have never heard of... hell, I didn't even know who they were until 2005! Regardless of their commercially small following, these dudes put in work at the studio. That's been evident in all of their albums and their latest, Getback, is no exception. I must admit, I am a bit puzzled by the title, but at the end of the day what does the title matter if the music is on point? Exactly!

I'm sure I wasn't the only one skeptic about the beat selection since 9th Wonder left the group, but it turns out they faired extremely well without their in-house beatmaker. Much better than he faired without them on his somber solo album Vol. 2-Dream Merchant. Anyway, it was a given that the lyrics and concepts would be on point and they took no days off seeing how I found nothing worth skipping either of the 3 times I listened to it. Plus, all the features work, even Lil Wayne's!

Like I said before, you can listen to this album without skipping any of the songs so there is really nothing bad I can say about the album. In fact, if I HAD to say anything bad about Getback I guess it would be that there's really no overtly incredible tracks that stand out...that's it.

Overall, Get Back is a pretty dope effort by Little Brother, but unfortunately it won't get them any commercial success...even with a cliche Lil Wayne feature lol. I'm not sure it really matters to them at this point, and well it shouldn't.

4/5
