You thought MJ's reign ended after his memorial service yesterday?? Think again! The undisputed King will once again grab the Billboard charts by its throat and choke slam it to the mat.
Its the first full sales week since MJ's death on June 25th, he moved a total of 800,000 collective units, which is a 90% increase from the 422,000 he moved last week. About 656,000 of the 800k were actually physical CDs as retailers found time to re-stock their shelves. Number Ones will continue to be the top selling album in the U.S. as it moves 339,000 alone. Thriller is #2 with 187,000 sold over the past week.
Unfortunately, Billboard is still blackballing Michael's clear cut dominance with a stupid "cataloged album" rule so he won't be appearing on the Billboard 200 again this week so tomorrow I'll be covering with the Top Pop Catalog charts or the Top Comprehensive Albums chart. Fuck the Billboard 200!
Speaking of MJ and numbers, check out TMZ.com's #7 theory if you have a chance. I don't take much stock into it because it proves nothing, but it is pretty interesting.
