Yesterday I was ridin' in the car listening to the Big Lip Bandit morning show (Steve Harvey was on commercial, I think) and after Supa Cindy did her Dirt she was like, 'congrats to Trina for debuting #1 on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts.' Then later in the day I got on AHH and I see a post in the headlines saying, "Trina Top Charts; Slip-N-Slide Lands Two #1's In A Month." While all of this is true, it is also true that she only sold 47,000 and debut at #6 on the big boy charts (The Billboard 200) on a week when she had no competition. I'm not trying to take anything away from Trina, but just a few weeks ago when Fat Joe debut at #6 with only a 1,000 less copies sold everyone was screaming flop...and here's in an independent! But they're trying to spin Trina's flop into a success. What's up with that?? Getting a #1 on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts is nothing when you're your own biggest competition unlike Joe who went up against Rick Ross & Snoop Dogg.
Anyway, on Hot #'s 1, 3, 8, 9, and 10 all reminded the same this week. Lil Wayne's Lollipop is this week's Sales Gainer as it jumps 3 spots 7-4. Too bad he pushed his album back and probably won't benefit from the success at radio. Right now Usher is in the same boat Lil Wayne might be in as Love In This Club falls backwards another week going 2-5 with his album still well over a month away. Maybe he'll get a boost next week by the T.I. remix and new video, but who knows.
The Billboard 200 1-10
1. George Strait - Troubadour
2. R.E.M. - Accelerate
3. Various Artists - NOW 27
4. Day26 - Day26
5. Alvin & The Chipmunks sdtk
6. Trina - Still Da Baddest
7. Danity Kane - Welcome To The Dollhouse
8. Jack Johnson - Sleep Through Static
9. Rick Ross - Trilla
10. Van Morrison - Keep It Simple
- Nothin' really poppin' outside the top 10 this week, but I did notice your boy Soulja holding down the #95 spot lol.
1. Mariah Carey - Touch My Body (1-1)
2. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love (4-2)
3. Madonna - 4 Minutes (3-3)
4. Lil Wayne - Lollipop (7-4)
5. Usher - Love In This Club (2-5)
6. Ray-J - Sexy Can I (6-6)
7. Jordin Sparks - No Air (5-7)
8. Chris Brown - With You (8-8)
9. Sara Bareilles - Love Song (9-9)
10. Flo Rida - Low (10-10)
- Not much movement going on outside of the top 10, but some nigga named 2 Pistols (sigh, this nigga had to be from Florida lol) and his T-Pain assisted single She Got It just jumped 11 spots 35-24.
- I usually don't talk about tracks going backwards on the charts, but damn Lil Mama's Shawty Get Loose is moving backwards at a rapid pace! Last week it went back 15 spots 10-25, and this week it went back another 14 spots 25-39. I don't know if this is in direct correlation with that dance show on MTV going off, but this isn't good seeing her album doesn't drop until 2 more weeks.
