Thursday Billboard Update - 3/6/08

I know I usually start with the Billboard 200, but I'm gonna switch it up this week in recognition of Usher who bust the Hot 100 wide open this week. After jumping 32 spots last week, his latest single Love In This Club jumped an incredible 50 spots all the way up to #1 this time around. I've been listening to the radio a lot lately and they've been playing this songs like crazy, but damn! This HAS to be the fastest tracks to #1 (if not, then one of them) because its only been on the charts for 3 weeks [editor's note: its actually the 3rd longest jump to #1 according to Billboard.com]. Oh yeah this officially knocks Flo Rida's Low from the top of the charts if you were wondering.

Now, back to the Billboard 200. We have a new #1 people! Ms. Jackson's Discipline debuts at the top this week with 181,000 sold, knocking off former #1 Jack Johnson. Erykah Badu's new weirdo album New Amerykah debuts at #2 with 123,900 album sold. The last new entry into the top 10 this week is Webbie's Savage Life 2 which sold 72,500 off the strength of his single Independent. I must say, I didn't do too bad on my This Week In Flops predictions in my 1st week back with them since December.

  • I'm sure to illseed's astonishment, Shawty Lo's first album Units In The City debuts at #13 with a mere 31,000 actual units sold. I tried to tell people his track was doing good in the streets, but wasn't duplicating that on Billboard.
  • Lo's debut seems like a success compared to Cheri Dennis as In And Out Of Love comes in at #74 and only moves 10,700. Damn Diddy, damn lol.
