The Green Bay Packers Are Your Super Bowl XLV Champions

Green Bay Packers MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers celebrates with the Vince Lombardi trophy after the Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL's Super Bowl XLV football game in Arlington, Texas, February 6, 2011. Rodgers was voted MVP of the game.
Welp, I definitively said the Pittsburgh Steelers would win the Super Bowl, and the Green Bay Packers came and took it from them. I really can't believe that Lil Wayne Green & Yellow freestyle didn't have any effect on the outcome. I guess the cheesiness of lines like "I'm up in this bitch with more blood than a blood vessel" only served to power on the Cheeseheads.

At the end of the day, the "Brett Favre shit sundae" factor (the worst way a horrible year could end for Brett would be with his replacement in Green Bay winning a Super Bowl) proved to be too strong. I knew that factor loomed since I listened to Kevin Hench bring it up on Adam Carolla's podcast last Friday, but I chose to ignore it. My bad.

Another factor I chose to ignore was the "Dave Dameshek at a Steelers game" factor. On Friday night I finally decided to listen to episode LXI of Daves Of Thunder and at the beginning Jacuzzi Pete said Dave Dameshek would be out next week because he was on assignment at the Super Bowl. On a recent episode of DOT, Dameshek was talking about how the Steelers always lose when he goes to their games (the 2004 AFC Championship game in their 15-1 season being one of them). For whatever reason I chose to ignore that as well. My bad.

BUT let me not get too caught up in these "factors," and ignore the fact that the Steelers played an awful game. I'm amazed they even had a shot at the end after how bad they played. I give Green Bay credit for sealing the deal, but they let a team hang around after turning the ball over 3 times. That's unacceptable. Great teams would've demolished the Steelers the way they played Sunday. I'm not trying to take anything away from them, but the win wasn't that impressive. Aaron Rodgers was impressive, but the Packers weren't as a team. Oh well, a win is a win.

The last thing I wanted to talk about is Green Bay being called "Titletown." Every single year I have to hear idiots talk about how the Dallas Cowboys are no longer America's Team, but nobody ever challenges Green Bay being called Titletown. Why? Last night gave Green Bay its 4th Super Bowl victory, there's 3 teams with more titles than them (Cowboys, 49ers, and Steelers)! We all know the Cowboys have the biggest fan base, so I don't know why we can't continue being America's Team unchallenged if Green Bay can be Titletown with less Super Bowls than 3 teams.

And last, but not least, doesn't it look like Clay Matthews is telling Aaron Rodgers to smell his finger in this picture?

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews (L) and MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers celebrate with the Vince Lombardi Trophy following their victory in NFL Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, Texas, February 6, 2011.

Cliff Lee
1) And Cliff Lee Chooses....the Phillies!
A free agent spurns New York, and all other suitors, who offered more money, so he could do what he wanted to do. Hmm, where have I heard this story before??

All I have to say about this Cliff Lee signing is that Roger Clemens wouldn't have wanted to play with Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, and Cole Hamels, he would've wanted to beat them.

...Wait!

2) Favre's Consecutive Games Streak Ends At 297
I still can't believe the NFL didn't have the Detroit Lions' stadium roof collapsed so Brett could've had a shot to keep his consecutive games streak alive. That really makes me, and a bunch of others, wonder if Brett is actually secretly suspended by the NFL on some "Michael Jordan decides to go play baseball" shit. The Jenn Sterger investigation has ended, and Jenny's people have said they wanted him suspended, so maybe this is the NFL way of protecting one of their legends??

I don't know, he could just be really hurt, but it's always more fun to speculate. It'll be telling if Brett sits out the last 3 games as well (though he doesn't really have any reason to play on now).

3) The Dallas Mavs' Win Streak Ends At 12
The Milwaukee Bucks put in work last night, and came from 20 points down to end the Mavs' streak. Brandon Jennings had 23 and 11, while Andrew Bogut put up 21 and 14 on 10-12 shooting from the field.

Damn, I was hoping the Heat got a chance to end it in Miami on December 20th.

4) Jets Coach Suspended For Tripping Dolphins Player
Rightfully so. It was wrong what he did, but at the end of the day, the Dolphins player was fine, so let the guy keep his job. Its not like he ran onto the field and tripped the guy.

5) Tashard Choice Gets Mike Vick's Autograph After Game
Why was this even a story?? He got one of his idol's autograph, so the fuck what! Tashard should be more concerned with the loss?? Why?? It's not like the game meant anything. The sports media might not realize this because of how good the Cowboys are playing, but we've been out of the playoff race for weeks now. Let the guy get his autograph, and leave him alone. It's not that serious.

Random News Shit: SportsCenter Edition

NEW YORK - AUGUST 04: Alex Rodriguez #13 of the New York Yankees runs the bases after hitting his 600th career home run in the first inning against Shaun Marcum #28 (not pictured) of the Toronto Blue Jays on August 4, 2010 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx borough of New York City.
1) A-Rod Finally Blasts 600th Career Homer
I don't care what anybody says, this is quite monumental. Yeah, he's an admitted steroid users, but fuck it. He played through the steroid era, big whup, shit happens. And yes, I am just blabbing along because this is a baseball story and I have nothing of importance to say pertaining to it.

Only 162 more to catch Bonds!

2) Brett Favre: Back Already. Shocker.
Wow, just look at the shock on everybody face. Remarkable.

I like how today Brett says he never sent any text messages saying he was retiring, but conveniently didn't bother making a statement to refute the stories. One phone call to ESPN from his agent and story dead. Oh well, like I said yesterday, there was no way the NFL was going to let him retire so they can open the season with Drew Bress and the Saints vs. Tarvaris Jackson and the Vikings.

3) Shaq Signs With The Celtics
Good for Shaq and good for the Celtics. Their quest to re-form an early 2000's All-Star team is almost complete. So far they have Shaq, KG, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Jermaine O'Neal, and they own the rights to Rasheed Wallace. I say they add Allen Iverson, and re-add Stephon Marbury and Antoine Walker then BOOM! All of a sudden they have the most formidable team in the league if this were 2001.

That is the goal, right?? Oh okay, just checking.

Oh, and this just in, the Celtics will now offer rice pudding and prune juice at home games. And urinals will be installed behind both baskets. Oh yeah, and instead of risking injury playing during the preseason, the Celtics will instead be auditioning to be the next Viva Viagra band.

(Side note: So what's Shaq's new nickname gonna be?? The Big Shamrock? The Big Clover? Welp, being the racist city that Boston is, I'm sure the local will refer to him simply as "The Big Nigger.")

Brett Favre Retires Again...Again...Again!

Minnesota Vikings Brett Favre leaves the field after his team was defeated by the New Orleans Saints in the NFL's NFC Championship football game in New Orleans, Louisiana January 24, 2010.
Man, the NFL must be pissed! They scheduled the Vikings for the first game of the season on September 9th and you know they didn't plan on them showing up Favre-less. You've got to be crazy if you think the NFL is looking forward to a primetime match-up of Drew Bress vs. Tarvaris Jackson. Favre might not even have to un-un-unretire, he might just get a league rep at his doorstep telling him he can't, because outside of the first game, the Vikes have 3 more primetime spots in 2010.

So let's cut to the chase, when does Favre come back?? We know he's coming back, so when?? Let's set the over/under at Sept. 9th since that's the Vikings first game. I say under, and if one of the Minny QBs gets hurt in camp or preseason, I say you can bank on it. We'll see if Favre wants to ride the "Are you serious, this guy is coming back AGAIN!" pony, but I guess we all shall see.

(Side note: Is Favre the first person in sports history to retire from 3 different teams in the same sport?? He's retired from the Packers, Jets, and now Vikings. Michael Jordan retired from 3 different teams, but one of them was a minor league baseball team. I'm talking about all 3 in one sport?? Somebody find that out for me)

(Side side note: Don't be so down on Tarvaris Jackson, he had a 113.4 passer rating last season. Of course he only threw 21 passes, all of which came in garbage time, but that's neither here nor there.)

Vikes Already Have Favre In Pads

Favre in purple
Nothing else really to add, just wanted to put it out there that the Vikings already had Favre's ass out there. Man, it sucks to be Tavaris and Sage right now. Maybe I should send them a picture of my savings account, that should cheer them right back up lol.

Surprise: Favre Signs With Vikings

Quarterback Brett Favre, left, and Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress drive off after Favre arrived at the St. Paul Downtown Airport in St Paul, Minn, on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009. The 39-year-old quarterback arrived in Minnesota on Tuesday to meet with the NFL football team.
Well who didn't see this coming?? Hell, even if you didn't you still weren't surprised. That's why I title all my Brett Favre retire posts with "...For Now" because you never know with this guy. All this back and forth with him is just sickening to be honest with you. And for what?? To play 2 damn games against the Packers?? Don't get it twisted, that is still what its all about at the end of the day with Favre, getting back at the Packers for not wanting him last year. How childish is that??

Now, does Brett make the Vikings a better team?? Not neccessarily. I mean in essence he's better than Tavaris and Sage BUT he is 40 and how many successful 40 year-old QBs do you know of?? Exxxxxactly!

Either way, the more attention this gets, the less attention my Cowboys get and that's fine with me because I hope we're able to sneak up on some people this season and have a strong year. I doubt it, but who knows, right?? I got my fingers crossed.

Lastly, I'll leave you with this video of Cris Carter on First Take this morning ripping his old club for the way they handled this ummm situation:

That's just a lot of real talk right there. Reports came out earlier that Favre has a tear in his rotators cuff too so the chance he's gonna be able to play 16 games plus the playoffs is unlikely and you're gonna need 1 of those 2 guys you've been shitting on the past few months.

And speaking of people getting shitted on, how bad do you feel for John David Booty right now?? I mean not only is he gonna get cut, but he's gonna have to hand Brett his #4 jersey as he exits AND see it all over TV for the next 5-6 months. Tough break Booty.

Random News Shit: NFL Edition

1) Favre Decides To Remain Retired... For Now
I was washing dishes when the breaking news came on an said Favre made a decision. I KNEW he was gonna stay retired. If he was gonna come back, there would have been no wait. What happened last year?? He said he wanted to play so he played. Him having doubt made me think he probably didn't think he could do it.

Plus, he is a human, I'm sure he hears everyone talking about how much of a fool he is for not being able to figure out what he wanted to do. Welp, we'll see if he has a change of heart later on in training camp.

2) R.I.P. Jim Johnson
It was clear he wasn't going to be able to coach the Eagles defense this year, which is why Philly named his replacement this past weekend, but I had no idea it was this bad. It will be weird when not seeing him on the sideline or hearing about his defensive schemes when the Cowboys play their NFC East rivals. Very sad stuff.

Watch out for the Eagles this years because they're gonna dedicate the season to Johnson.

3) Plax To Testify Tomorrow
This is all so over done. Yeah he was wrong for having a gun, but he shot himself! Give the man a couple of days or months in jail and be done with it already! Dante Stallworth kills someone on accident and gets 24 days, Plax shoots himself on accident and he's looking at 1 or 2 years. Give me a break.

4) Merriman Debuts Blue Mohawk At Chargers' Camp
This isn't really news, but I just wanted to show everybody. I like Shawne as a player, but this kinda makes me wish the worse for him on the field lol.

First Look At 'Madden NFL 10' Gameplay

This looks phenomenal! I'm loving the graphics first off, its a huge improvement over Madden 09 which really wasn't all that bad in that department. I like the more realistic sideline where you can actually see the coach more often than just when thinking about challenging a call, and the players showing more emotion than just handclapping. The Wildcat format looks pretty dope and it didn't seem like it took forever to find in the playbook either, which is a plus. The fumble pile was great too, I'm loving that feature. I'm also feeling the refs actually being on the field and converging on calls. The last thing I like that was the improved on was the product sponsorship by Sprint is MUCH better than last year's by Snicker.

The thing I wasn't feeling was that is looked like it was kinda tough to tackle. Maybe they were playing terrible D on purpose to show off the offense, but Larry Johnson and Michael Turner were bouncing off of people like Flubber. The other thing I didn't like has nothing really to do with the gameplay at all. I wasn't feeling this match-up between the Chiefs and Falcons. I mean seriously, who wants to see a Chiefs/Falcons game?? Since they were gonna make up match-ups, I think a better choice would've been Cowboys/Bills for obvious reasons. Jets/Dolphins would've been nice too. I would've liked to see if Rex Ryan and Channing Crowder actually threw hands lol.

Question: Is Brett Favre already on the Vikings or are they gonna just wait a few more days for precaution??

I still can't wait for the game to drop though!

Guess Who's Contemplating A Comeback??

I'm not gonna say his name, but it rhymes with "Smrett Smavre." Now, I don't wanna spend too much time talking but Smrett, but he's planning on meeting with Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress later this week about possibly coming out of retirement to play in 2009. That doesn't mean he is, but who would be surprised if he did?? Hell, who is even surprised he's thinking about it now??

On another note, how little confidence do the Vikes have in Sage Rosenfels that they're talking to the main catalyst for the Jets collapse last season to replace him only 2-3 months after acquiring him?? lol.

Brett Favre Retires...Again

I think this one might be the real deal (though I have been fooled before). No tearful press conference or anything. BUT if the Jets release Favre, he will probably come back and play for the Vikings. We'll see.

Anyway, A-Rod should send Brett a thank you card for finally getting ESPN to talk about something else because we know in the world of ESPN, Favre talk trumps all lol.

...that I got Madden '09 so that's why I haven't been posting and I probably won't be posting anything today lol. I suggest you go get Madden yourself if you haven't already because its nice!

Oh, and that's the real downloadable and printable alternative cover for the game up there. I was wondering what they were gonna do with the whole Favre situation lol. Oh yeah and they have the roster updates available and instead of searching around forever to figure out how to install them (like I did lol) your boy Fiyah will look out and tell you that all you have to do is go online and start a game and they'll prompt you about the updates. Here's a complete of all the changes on the updates.

Brett Favre Traded To The Jets!

Daaamn! The Packers just tried the FUCK out of Brett Favre! Welp, Brett it looks like its time to turn the waterworks back on if you haven't already. Oh well, you made your bed now its time to sleep in it. You gotta wonder why Favre didn't try to block this trade though. We'll have to wait and see if he actually suits up for the 4 win team but they aren't any better I know that.

Question: what in the hell are they gonna do with all those Madden '09 covers set to come out next week with Brett wearing the Green Bay uni???

Finally, It Might Be Over!

I was just about to go to bed when I flipped it on ESPN and saw this message going across the bottom of the screen:

"BREAKING NEWS: Buccaneers likely to acquire Brett Favre from the Packers and official announcement could come Wednesday Tampa Tribune reports."

Now, I don't have any articles to support this you just have to put it on SportsCenter to see. I know I for one am happy hell to hear this so we can stop the 24/7 Favre coverage and get back to talking about what really matters...the Dallas Cowboys!

Anyway, I'm not sure what Tampa will have to give up, but it'll probably be a first round pick or maybe a second round pick with a player and/or cash considerations. Either way I don't think the move makes the Bucs any better so I doubt we'll have this controversy at the end of the next season lol. I just feel bad for Aaron Rodgers because he has NO room for anything, but perfection. Welp, I guess we'll just have to wait and see but if they make a move before I got to work at 1 I'll be sure to let you know the deal.

Oh, and just in case this deal does happen Green Bay plays Tampa Sept. 28th at 1pm on Fox.

Not sure why they have him speaking on the NFL since he's an NBA guy, but the more Stephen A. the better lol.

Favre Wants Back...Just Not With The Pack

I was just watching Bun-B's Raw Report when 5pm crept up on me and I had to make a decision whether to continue watching or put on Around The Horn (which is what I usually do at 5pm). Needless to say I paused Raw Report and flipped it on ESPN to see the SportsCenter Right Now thingy and breaking news came across that Brett Favre wants to be released from the Packers so he can come back and play elsewhere. You know it was broke by Chris Mortensen so check out the vid.

Crazy, crazy shit. I don't know how the cheeseheads are gonna take this, but either way I don't think this is a smart move by Brett. I mean i don't think its a smart move to come back period, but especially not with another team.

Oh well, I'm sure Aaron Rodgers is having the best day he's had in a LONG time lol.

So, any thoughts as to teams that would be interested in Favre?? Obviously there's 2 teams in the same division that need QB's (the Bears and Vikings), but I doubt the Packers would released him if they were really interested so they wouldn't have to play him twice a year so who else??
