Serena Williams & Roger Federer Win Wimbledon

Much like running backs in football, 30 is usually the age when things start to fall apart for Tennis players, but don't tell that to Serena Williams and Roger Federer who both won Wimbledon titles this weekend at the age of 30 (Roger will turn 31 in August and Serena will in September). For Williams this is Wimbledon title #5, and for Federer this is #7 and he regains the #1 ranking in the world. Congrats to both.

Random News Shit: SportsCenter Edition

Sweet 15
1) Federer Outlasts Roddick; Wins 15th Major
What a great match! ...Damn shame I had to leave for work DURING (what turned out to be) the beginning parts of the 5th set. What a 5th set it was too! The final scored ended up being 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14. The match passed the 3 hour mark by a mile!

Anyway, this is Roger Federer's 15th Grand Slam title and 6th win at Wimbledon. I really wanted Andy Roddick to win though. I didn't think he would push Federer this much, but is that an indictment on how good Roddick is or how human Federer has become??

2) McNair's Death Ruled A Homocide
Okay, so now we know Steve was shot 4 times (twice in the head, twice in the chest) and the woman found next to his was shot in the side of the head. I may be being naive, but sounds like she killed him and then killed herself.

Also, turns out that she was his girlfriend. The problem?? McNair was married with kids! Don't get me wrong, I still feel bad that he died, but its HARD to not lose a little respect for him for cheating on his wife in the first place. Even if you are seperated, you are still married. Period.

On another note, how bad do you feel for the wife?? Especially if you didn't know about the other woman. She must be torn up on the inside.

3) 'Sheed Commits To Celtics
I like this move! The Celtics are clearly trying to a one-year push at another title and I like the direction they're headed in.

I'm hearing the C's are also trying to lure Grant Hill away from the Suns to make the 90's Draft All-Star team complete lol.

4) Tiger Wins AT&T National
I hope Tiger's 2009 trend of winning the last tourament before the major championship doesn't continue with the British Open on the horizon in a couple of weeks on ABC.

5) Pujols Leads All-Star Game Voting
You can click the link to find out who else made the team, if you're interested. I never watch the game, but I can't wait for the Home Run Derby though.

Federer, Roddick To Meet In Mens Final At Wimbledon

Question: Is it too to go ahead and give Roger Federer his 6th Wimbledon title??

I mean we all know he's gonna beat Andy Roddick so do we even need to play the match out Sunday??

I'd actually like to see Roddick win 1 because he is American and this is 4th Of July weekend, but I really don't see how that could happen. Never say never... unless it really applies. And now it does.

Federer Wins First French Open Title

Federer Wins!
This morning Roger Federer defeated Robin Soderling in Roland Garros, Paris to win his first ever French Open title. Of course the French was the only major he had never won so now he has completed the career Grand Slam by winning each major tournament at least once. This is also his 14th overall major, tying him with Pete Sampras for the record for most all-time. The French was his to win after Soderling did him a favor and dropped Nadal last Sunday.

Nadal Ousted From French Open!

upset!
Whoa! Back to back upsets this weekend, first LeBron and now Nadal! Nadal was beaten by Sweden's Robin Soderling 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 7-6 today in Paris. This is truly shocking because Rafael is the "King of the Clay" in ever sense of the phrase. In fact, the 4-time French Open winner had previously NEVER loss in the French Open in 32 matches until today. That's right, he was 4 for 4 at the French Open.

Of course this now opens the door for Roger Federer who has never won a French Open, being denied by Rafael the past few years. Maybe he finally wins one this year. He's GOT to be the favorite right now. Welp, we shall see.

Rafael Nadal Wins 1st Aussie Open

Another epic battle between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer went down late last night and the Spaniard took home the trophy. Nadal beat Federer 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2 in a nearly four-and-a-half hour match! Doesn't it seem like all their matches are upwards of four hours?? I mean Serena beat that chick the other day in 59 minutes lol.

Anyway, I think its pretty much over for Federer. After like 4 or 5 straight dominant years, its looking more and more like Nadal has his number. Now I'm no tennis expert or anything, but I think the only chance he has to win that 14th major is for somebody to knock off Nadal. Plus, 27 in tennis is like 37 in football.

Click here to see the saddest picture of all-time lol.
