Random News Shit: NFL Headlines Edition

New York Jets wide receiver Darrelle Revis signals to the fans during football practice at the new Meadowlands Stadium, Wednesday, June 16, 2010 in East Rutherford, N.J.
1) Jets, Revis Finally Agree On Contract
The New York Jets and Darrelle Revis finally came to terms on a new deal, and just in time for the season finale of Hard Knocks too (shocker). Apparently Rex Ryan flew to Miami and met with Revis Saturday, and I'm sure HBO's cameras made a cameo. Should be interesting, as was the entire season. I've never been a fan of the Jets, but Rex makes me at least not hate them.

No word on what the money looks like, but we do know that it's a 4 year deal. The deal is 4-years and $46 million with $32 million in guaranteed money. Looks like Revis will easily be able to pay the $578,305 in fines he raked up by holding out for 35 days.

2) Haynesworth Unlikely To Start In Opener; McNabb Ready
I was looking at the Redskins' roster, and why do we think they're gonna be so much better than last year again?? Yes, they upgraded at quarterback, but their receiving corps is even more fucked up than it was last year. Factor in their NFL elderly running backs and this whole Albert Haynesworth nonsense and I smell a disaster cooking. Yes!

3) Vikings Not Interested In Houshmandzadeh?
Huh?? Minnesota was swooning for T.J. last offseason, and now he's not good enough for them?? Oh well, pride always comes before the fall. I'm just hoping he doesn't land in Washington.

4) Leinart Signs 1-Year Deal With Texans
Man, how dry was the market for Matt Leinart that he had to sign a 1 year deal with a team that has a 4,000 yard passer in Matt Schaub?? Of course Schaub has been injury prone throughout his career, but as of right now, Leinart is the 3rd string QB and I don't see that changing because Dan Orlovsky is probably better. Or at the least he has a much better grasp of the offense than Leinart would coming in on the eve of the season. I'm guessing Matt will be out of the league completely in 2-3 years.

5) Ravens' LB Kindle Plans To Play This Season
Next month is October, the guy just fractured his skull at the end of July. He knows his body better than I do, but I don't see how that's possible. And even if he was gonna be 100% healthy, he's a rookie that missed all of training camp, there's no way he'll be ready to play in the NFL by next month.

6) Titans Release LeGarrette Blount
I'll get Dana White on the phone, I think it's time to get this guy's MMA career underway.

Oh, and Rhodes scholar Myron Rolle made the practice squad.

LeGarrette Blount: Still Punching

I'm with Jeff Fisher, so fuckin' what, it's training camp, fight happen ALL the time. Hell, Rex Ryan just set up a fight on last night's Hard Knocks. The only way it could have been a story is if it happened in an actual game, or it happened on the same exact date as when he punched that kid from Boise State. This story is no story.

(Side note: If things don't work out for LeGarrette in the NFL, I got 3 letters for him: MMA.)

Random News Shit: SportsCenter Edition

KANSAS CITY, MO - SEPTEMBER 20: Running back Larry Johnson #27 of the Kansas City Chiefs looks on during warm-ups prior to the start of the game against the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium on September 20, 2009 in Kansas City, Missouri.
1) Chiefs Release RB Larry Johnson
Who didn't see this coming?? I thought they'd wait until the offseason, but I'm not shocked they did it this early. I mean, its not like their gonna need him to continue their potential 1-win season.

Now, lets talk about possibly destinations. Larry turns 30 on the 19th and we all know that's a dreadful age for running backs, but you know age doesn't turn off?? Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots! Is there any chance the Pats don't end up getting him some how?? I'm actually surprised they were able to swing a straight up trade for a 7th round draft pick seeing Scott Pioli is the GM in KC. Its the least he could've done after the Pats gift wrapped Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel as parting gifts.

Whatever, either way, I wouldn't be surprised if LJ was suiting up for the Pats in 2010-11.

(Side note: I wonder when was the last time he spoke to Jay-Z??)

2) Iverson Takes Leave From Grizzlies, May Retire
This may be one of the saddest story in the NBA in the past couple of years. Why can't he just swallow his pride and come off the bench for a contender?? What in the fuck was he doing in Memphis anyway?? Future Hall Of Famers without rings should be gravitating to situations they can reach the promise land in, not just sitautions you can start in.

Okay, lets just say he was a starter for Memphis. Now what?? You're still on a terrible team in a terrible NBA city. You're only going to win about 20 games and you further tarnish your legacy. I don't get it. I hope he doesn't retire and ends signs on to a team like Cleveland or Orlando so he can at least contend, but who knows??

3) LeGarrette Blount Reinstated
Good, he shouldn't have been suspended for longer than a game in the first place. Congrats to the young man.

LeGarrette Blount Could Be Reinstated By Oregon

Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, left, hugs an Oregon coach on the field before their NCAA college football game against Purdue in Eugene, Ore. , Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009.
You remember this guy, he punched that fat white kid from Boise State in the face after the first game of the season, almost went all Artest on the fans, and got suspended by his school for the rest of the season. Well his coach Chip Kelly is thinking about reinstating him after he's impressed on his apology program aka his "I'm Sorry" Tour (basically he just goes around and pretends like he wouldn't punch out that kid again in hope of being viewed as an acceptable nigga once more). Kelly will update his status later today (Friday for the slow), but its said that if he does come back it won't be anytime before Oregon's bye week on the 17th.

Whatever, I hope he can come back and get another chance. Dude just had a jit and those potential NFL checks are how the kid is gonna eat. Good luck.

Oregon Suspends LeGarrette Blount For The Rest Of The Season

In this image rendered from video and provided by ESPN.com, Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, left, punches Boise State's Byron Hout as coach Chris Peterson, foreground right, tries to pull Hout away at the end of an NCAA college football game on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2009, in Boise, Idaho. Boise State won 19-8.
Tough break nigga.

Like I said earlier though, had he just punched that kid and not gone all crazy on the fans in the stands, then he probably wouldn't have gotten as harsh a punishment as he did. Sucks for him, but oh well that's what happens. If you say its just a game then they talk about about you, if you take the game too seriously they talk about you, what you gonna do??

One more thing, can we stop with all the sucker punch talk?? He DID NOT sucker punch that kid. I could see if he ran up on him 5 minutes later and hit him while he wasn't looking, but he punched him as a direct reaction to what he did. Its Blount's fault that guy turned his head right when he was about to get punched?? No it isn't. Give me a fuckin' break. That was NOT a sucker punch.

Oregon's LeGarrette Blount Cleans This White Dude's Clock!

Man, I was actually watching pieces of this game last night with my nig Andy but we changed the channel to watch that "Smoking Guns' Dumbest Criminal" show on TruTV (of course half of the idiots were from Florida but that's neither here nor there). When we flipped it back SportsCenter had started and they were showing this video of LeGarrette Blount stealing on one of the Boise State players. Random as hell, but also funny as hell.

Now, of course Blount was wrong for punching the guy, but we can't forget that white buddy did provoke the incident. He slaps his shoulder pad and then talks shit right in his face so lets not act like this was some random act of violence, he was provoked.

After that, when Blount decided to go after some fans, I can't explain and I think that's more so what he'll be punished for if he ends up getting an extremely harsh punishment. One thing to remember about the situation is that this was in Boise, Idaho. I'm not saying they're a racist state, but I've gotta wonder if any of those fans started dropping N-bombs or other racial slurs when Blount was trying to exit the field. I'm sure you don't get to interact with a lot of black people living in Idaho so maybe somebody got a little too excited about the punch. I'm not saying that's what happened, but its a possibility.

As far as punishment goes, I think you give the kid 1 or 2 games and call it a day. I'm leaning towards 2 though because of the fan incident after the punch aftermath had somewhat calmed down. Fuck anybody talking about he should be kicked off the team or kicked out of school, that's a bit obsessive for a small fight after a football game.

Lesson of the day: Don't talk shit after a football game without your helmet on! lol.
