Trey Songz grabs his first #1 album as Chapter V debuts atop the Billboard 200 with 135,000 sold. DJ Khaled's new album Kiss The Ring debuts at #4 with 41,000 sold. For the first time in 79 weeks, Adele's 21 is not in the top 10, falling 8-12. She'll likely return next week, but it's worth noting.

Thursday Billboard Update - 7/19/12

Frank Ocean's Channel Orange debuts at #2 with 131,000 sold, just behind the Zac Brown Band's Uncaged with 153,000 sold. Frank Ocean's sells mostly came from iTunes, as his physical CD only sold about 3,000 copies. If his newfound fans were looking for a place to direct their anger, Amazon would be that place because they offered the Zac Brown Band's album for only $3.99 all week, which helped them surpass Frank for the #1 spot. Just putting it out there.

The big news on the Hot 100 is P!nk's Blow Me (One Last Kiss) soaring 58-9 in it's 2nd week on the charts. Also entering the top 10 is Flo Rida's Whistle, which rises 5 spots 12-7.

Thursday Billboard Update - 6/9/11

After a marvelous opening week, Lady Gaga Born This Way came crashing back to Earth this week with an 84% sales decrease (a 60% decrease is average, a 70% decrease is danger zone, but an 84% decrease is "Lady Gaga fan" scary). In my opinion, her first week sales should come with an asterisk beside it because evidently the album was sold for just 99 cents on 2 separate days on Amazon. That ain't right. Anyway, the set sold 174,000 in its 2nd week. Meanwhile, Adele's 21 keeps chugging along with another 121,000 sold. With her steady pace and Gaga's rapid decline, it's expected that she will regain the #1 spot on next week's charts.

Nothing interesting is going on on the Hot 100 this week and Adele's Rolling In The Deep is still #1.

Thursday Billboard Update - 2/10/11

After 11 weeks in stores, Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday finally crosses the 1 million sold mark and also hits #1 for the first time. Pink Friday only sold 45,300, so it's #1 by default, but you can't fault Nicki for that. What is amazing though is that Nicki reached the 1 million sold mark before Kanye West did, despite Yeezy's 100,000-plus head start in first week sales. Kanye will have to wait until next week to sell the 1,000,000th copy of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Remember last week when I said it would be interesting to see what Wiz Khalifa's Black & Yellow did if the Steelers won the Super Bowl? Well as it turns out, it didn't matter because the Packers won and Black & Yellow still rose to #1. And obviously this is Wiz's first #1 record. In other top 10 news, Dr. Dre's I Need A Doctor featuring Eminem and Skylar Green explodes onto the Hot 100, debuting at #5. Should we really start looking out for Detox? I'll believe it when it's in stores.

Thursday Billboard Update - 2/3/11

Hey Cake, you're off the hook. Amos Lee's Mission Bell has bested your album Showroom Of Compassion and is the new lowest selling #1 album in SoundScan history with 40,500 sold first week. Also debuting in the top 10 is Wisin Y Yandel's Los Vaqueros: El Regreso at #8 with 30,700 sold.

Some new blood is injected into the top 10 this week by P!nk and the Far*East Movement. P!nk's Fuckin' Perfect shoots to #2, up 9 spots from last week, and Far*East Movement's Rocketeer lands at #9 after previously sitting at #16.

On another Hot 100 note, it'll be interesting to see what Wiz Khalifa's Black & Yellow does next week if the Steelers win the Super Bowl Sunday.

Thursday Billboard Update - 10/21/10

A bunch of crap we don't care about debuted this week, but the big story is Lil Wayne's I'm Not A Human Being jumping 16-1 with another 125,300 sold. Oh well, Fuck Lil Wayne 2.5 is out and that's what's really important.

We have a new #1 on the Hot 100 this week and it's Far*East Movement's Like A G6. Now I've never heard this song, but I did hear this group was from L.A., so I'm sure it's wack. Anyway, debuting at #6 is Taylor Swift's Back To December. Finally, Trey Songz's Bottoms Up featuring Nicki Minaj moves up 3 spots 13-10 this week. Thursday Billboard Update - 9/23/10

We had a slug fest for the #1 spot between Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns and Trey Songz's Passion, Pain & Pleasure this past week, with Linkin Park (241,214) narrowly edging Trey (240,209) by 1,005 albums. Awesome sales battle.

Over on the Hot 100 we also have a new #1, Bruno Mars' Just The Way You Are. It could be a 1 week run though because Rihanna's Only Girl (In The World) soars 72 spots 75-3 in its 2nd week on the charts, and is definitely a major threat to takeover.

This Week In Flops 9/14/10

I could just be slipping, but I had no idea this album was coming out until this past Friday. Usually when that happens, I know I'm not alone that, but this time I'm pretty sure I am.

Ladies love Trey (since he blew up, but definitely not before), so I'm sure this will top the charts next week. I'm thinking somewhere in the 140-180k range.

(Side note: How creepy is this album cover?? Trey looks like a stalker looking outside somebody's window. Nobody at Atlantic realized this??)

Okay, I may have been the only person who didn't know Trey Songz's new album was dropping, but I KNOW I'm not the only one who had no idea Marques Houston was even recording a new album, let alone releasing one. What a terrible day for an R&B singer to release album. Marques' label must not like him very much, because besides being washed up hindering this album's sales, dropping on the same day as the reigning R&B King surely does. This would be like Black Rob dropping an album on the same day as Jay-Z.

Anyway, I'm guessing 5-15k.

(Side note: Again, what's up with the album cover?? Why put a big extra hairy arm dead in the center of an album targeted at women?? Cool if it's the 70's, not so much in 2010.)

I thought this was a mixtape?? Oh, aight then.

Well I love Rah Digga, and I'm glad to see her back, but we all know this isn't gonna sell. That's not necessarily a terrible thing, I mean, it's not like she was ever a huge mainstream artist anyway. I'm gonna go with 2-10k.

After spending the last 2 weeks at #2, Eminem's Recovery finally rebounds to reclaim the top spot with 132,623 record sold this past week. That bring his total tally to 2,112,996, which is good for double platinum status. Believe it or not, Recovery is the first album to sell 2 million copies in 2010. How sad is that?? Good luck to everyone who wants to be a musician.

Biggest Loser: Barbers & hair stylist in L.A.

Overall, the show was pretty damn good. I mean, the 2 worst performances (Diddy-Dirty Money and All I Do Is Win Remix) weren't even all that bad. In facet, the main show was so good, half of the losers are from the pre-show and all but 5 of the winners were from the main show. Yeah, that good. I pleasantly surprised.

It wasn't all good though. The first major problem was the fact they didn't even present all the awards. Seriously, who won Best New Artist, Best Gospel Artist, Best Group, Video Director of the Year, and Best International Act?? They made up an award pre-show and gave it to Chris Brown for crying (and yes they made the award up, if you say they didn't then tell me who else was nominated for it??), but they couldn't do any of these awards they actually released nominees for?? Now they could've come on while I wasn't paying attention...but I doubt it.

The only other major problem I had with the show itself was Chris Brown's Michael Jackson tribute. I know everybody loved it, but the move weren't that crisp. Usher should have done it since he is the one Michael anointed to take his place. The light-up jacket dance sequence was dope though.

Anyway, Beyonce is always great, but over the past year all she's done with make 2 videos with Lady Gaga. Mary J. Blige had a decent year sales wise, but no real hit singles. Melanie Fiona is great, but lets be serious. Rihanna does mainly pop and alternative music, and Rude Boy alone isn't enough to win her this award. That leaves Alicia Keys. She had several hits over past year, stayed relevant the entire time, and her album went platinum fairly quickly. She's GOT to win this award.

(Side note: How in the hell did Melanie Fiona beat out Monica for a spot here?? Not only has Monica outsold her, BUT SHE HAS A TV SHOW ON BET!)

My Take: Let the records show now that if Trey Songz does indeed win, he deserved it. This was his breakout year, and you'd be hard pressed to find a female who doesn't want to help their neighbors know his name as well. I would give it to Usher though because I can't go anywhere without hearing OMG, Lil Freak, or There Goes My Baby! Whether I'm watching TV, driving in the car, or getting my haircut, you just can't escape them. And that's not to mention he's already outsold Trey, even though his album dropped 7 months later. Yeah he's Usher, but Trey is on fiyah right now with the ladies, he should have sold MUCH more than he has at the moment.

Also, Don't sleep on Maxwell. Ladies love him just as much, if not more, than Trey Songz and Usher. That's evidence by him coming from out of nowhere last year and selling 316,000 of his BLACKsummers'night in its first week. Here's the dark horse that could actually steal this one from the front-runners.

My Take: Even though Nicki hasn't really done much over the past year outside of a few cameos here and there, she's got to win this one because her competition is basically non-existent. The nominees were essentially thrown together just to say they gave out this award. Seriously, Ester Dean, Lil Kim, Rasheeda, and Trina?? Ester Dean had a minor hit, then disappeared, Lil Kim is only in the news because of a feud with Nicki and Drake, Rasheeda is still an underground artist, and Trina's Amazin' album dropped with so little fanfare than I'm not even sure Slip-N-Slide knows it's out yet. They might as well had thrown Foxy Brown and Missy Elliott in there too. If anything, Nicki wins by default.

B.o.B having two #1 singles to his credit cancels out the fact that he just dropped his debut album this past March??
