Lupe Fiasco - Lamborghini Angels

I had this song playing and wasn't paying attention then I heard, "Told him take off all his clothes and put ya penis next to mine." That snapped me back into like a Chad Johnson head-butt to the temple. This song is much deeper than I anticipated, but that's Lupe for you, and I love it. Can't wait for Food & Liquor 2!

Thursday Billboard Update - 5/31/12

John Mayer's Born & Raised debuts at #1 selling 219,300 copies in the first week. Mayer has a throat condition called granuloma, which has severely limited his ability to promote the album, so this is a bit of a surprise.

Another boring week on the Hot 100 as Phillip Phillips' Home debuting at #10 is literally the only change from last week.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. John Mayer - Born & Raised (1)

9. Various Artists - Now 42 (6-9)
10. Norah Jones - Little Broken Hearts (4-10)

The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know (1-1)
2. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (2-2)
3. Maroon 5 - Payphone (3-3)

The Game - Skate On (feat. Lupe Fiasco)

This is just one of a few new tracks off The Game's California Republic mixtape (which drops tomorrow) that has hit the net recently. This particular track is an oldie that was supposed to be on The R.E.D. Album (hence the reference to freeing Weezy), but didn't make the final cut for whatever reason. Enjoy!

Hard body! How many dope tracks like this didn't make The R.E.D. Album?? I'm now totally amped for this new mixtape tomorrow.

Lupe Fiasco - American Terrorist III

American Terrorist III? Sweet! American Terrorist is one of my favorite 1 or 2 Lupe songs. Wait, what happened American Terrorist II? Did I miss something or does that not exist? *Checks all Lupe folders on computer.*

Lyrically, this American Terrorist III is top notch. Possibly even better than the original. Sadly, the same can't be said about the track, which is Kavinsky's Nightcall from the "Drive" soundtrack. Now I would be lying if I said it didn't fit the feel of the song, I'm just not in love with that sound musically. You understand, right Lupe?

Thursday Billboard Update - 6/16/11

Adele 21
Just a brief 2 week after selling a million copies first week, Lady Gaga's Born This Way has been overtaken for the #1 spot by the steady hands of Adele's 21. With 114,000 sold, 21 gets its 10th non-consecutive week at #1. Question: has there ever been a shorter time spent at #1 after selling 1 million in their first week than Lady Gaga's Born This Way? Anyway, the big story on the Billboard 200 this week is The Book Of Mormon blasting back onto the charts at #3 with 60,700 sold. The Broadway musical by the creators of South Park debuted 3 weeks ago at #31, then gradually fell off of the albums charts, but after winning damn near every Tony Award, The Book Of Mormon album finally found its way. And last, but not least, Tech N9ne enjoys his best sales week ever as his 6's & 7's debuts at #4 with 55,800 sold. That's HUGE for an independent artist.

Adele's Rolling In The Deep stays hot and grabs a 6th week at #1. Entering the top 10 this week is Jason Aldean's Dirt Anthem (23-9) and Nicki Minaj's Super Bass (11-10). Believe it or not, this is Nicki's first top 10 single as a lead artist. Her only other top 10 hits was Trey Songz's Bottoms Up which peaked at #6 last year. Yes, sad, but true.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Adele - 21 (2-1)
2. Lady Gaga - Born This Way (1-2)
3. Original Cast Recording - The Book Of Mormon (-3)
4. Tech N9ne - 6's & 7's (4)
5. Ronnie Dunn - Ronnie Dunn (5)
6. All Time Low - Dirty Work (6)
7. Jason Aldean - My Kinda Party (8-7)
8. Brad Paisley - This Is Country Music (6-8)
9. Various Artists - Now 38 (7-9)
10. Death Cab For Cutie - Codes and Keys (3-10)

The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Adele - Rolling In The Deep (1-1)
2. Pitbull - Give Me Everything (2-2)
3. LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem (6-3)
4. Katy Perry - E.T. (3-4)

Thursday Billboard Update - 6/2/11

Gaga
Adele's 21 has ruled the Billboard 200 thus far in 2011...then Lady Gaga's Born This Way dropped. Born This Way sold 1,108,400 albums first week, the most any album has sold since 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005. All isn't bad for Adele though as 21 sells another 126,000 and is rounding the bases on double platinum. Also, Maybach Music Group's Self Made Vol. 1 debuts at #5 with 58,900 sold.

Adele's Rolling In The Deep remains #1 for a 5th consecutive week, but the big story today is DJ Khaled's I'm on One featuring Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne skyrocketing 68 positions 78-10. Now if you ask me, it's the most overrated song of the year, but the people seem to love it so there you have it. And this marks DJ Khaled's first career top 10.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Lady Gaga - Born This Way (1)
2. Brad Paisley - This Is Country Music (2)

  • Jadakiss' I Love You mixtape debuts at #40 with 11,200 sold. Not bad for a mixtape.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10

8. Lady Gaga - The Edge Of Glory (19-8)
9. LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem (8-9)
10. DJ Khaled - I'm on One (78-10)
  • Beyonce's Girls (Run The World) soars 21 spots 50-29 in its 6th week on the charts.
  • Lady Gaga's You And I debuts at #36.
  • Beyonce's 1+1 debuts at #57.
  • Rihanna's California King Bed flies 14 spots 80-66 in its 2nd week.
  • Lil Wayne awful new single How To Love debuts at #69. If this song does well, maybe Tha Carter IV will be pushed up instead of back?
  • Lady Gaga's Marry The Night debuts at #79.
  • Mac Miller's Donald Trump debuts at #80.
  • Rihanna's Man Down debuts at #94.
  • Lupe Fiasco's Out Of My Head featuring Trey Songz debuts at #98.

This Week In Flops 3/8/11

Lasers
Welp, this is the first This Week In Flops of 2011 and I must say, it is LONG overdue. Lets get started.

I know on the podcast Friday I said I was gonna review Lupe Fiasco's 3rd album Lasers, but after listening to it once, I really have no motivation to hear it again. And its not that it sucks, like a lot of dimwits say, its because its rather boring. Whatever, I'm still gonna write the review, just don't expect anything super long.

As far as sales go, don't expect much. An album that kept getting pushed back + bad reviews = bad times when the SoundScan numbers comes out. I'm guessing 30-60k.

Justin Bieber's Never Say Never: The Remixes debuts at #1 this week with 165,000 copies sold...and that's pretty much it on the Billboard 200 this week.

Lady Gaga's Born This Way remains at #1 on the Hot 100, but we have a new #2 as Cee-Lo's Fuck You continues to have a post-Grammys renaissance. After debuting at #5 2 weeks ago, Dr. Dre's I Need A Doctor feating Eminem and Skylar Green fell all the way down to #32 last week. Then he performed at the Grammys and now it flies 28 spots to #4. Madness. And the last Grammys based bump hits Justin Bieber's Never Say Never featuring Jaden Smith, which hopped 25-8. Maybe it was the leopard print tights Jaden wore during the performance?
