Thursday Billboard Update - 11/19/09

Bon Jovi
Another terrible week for Hip-Hop on the Billboard 200 so fuck it again, and on to the next one.

At this advanced stage in Jay-Z's career it'd seem like there wouldn't be much he hasn't accomplished. Well there was this one thing, but he can now cross that off his list as of today. Jay's Empire State Of Mind with Alicia Keys hits #1 and becomes the first #1 of his career as the lead artist. That's right, Jay-Z never had his own #1 record until now, all 3 of his previous #1's were as features (Mariah Carey's Heartbreaker, Beyonce's Crazy In Love, and Rihanna's Umbrella). Isn't that remarkable?? All those hits like Can I Get A, Hard Knock Life, Big Pimpin, Izzo, '03 Bonnie & Clyde, Dirt Off Your Shoulders, etc., etc. Eight to 10's, only one #1.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Bon Jovi - The Circle (1)
2. Andrea Bocelli - My Christmas (3-2)
3. Carrie Underwood - Play On (1-3)
4. Michael Jackson - This Is It sdtk (2-4)
5. Taylor Swift - Fearless (6-5)
6. Various Artists - Now 32 (5-6)
7. Michael Bublé - Crazy Love (8-7)
8. Flyleaf - Memento Mori (8)
9. Glee Cast - Glee: Season One sdtk (4-9)
10. Various Artists - Twilight Saga: New Moon sdtk (10-10)
  • Wale's Attention: Deficit starts off at #21 with 28,300 sold. His manager is already blaming it on the album being under shipped, but he should face facts & realize the interest just isn't there.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold
1. Jay-Z - Empire State Of Mind (2-1)
2. Owl City - Fireflies (1-2)
3. Jason Rulo - Whatcha Say (3-3)
4. Iyaz - Replay (4-4)
5. Lady Antebellum - Need You Know (22-5)
6. Britney Spears - 3 (8-6)
7. Jay Sean - Down (5-7)
8. Miley Cyrus - Party In The U.S.A. (6-8)
9. Lady GaGa - Paparazzi (7-9)
10. Ke$ha - TiK ToK (14-10)
  • I posted the video yesterday and now Shakira's Give It Up To Me featuring Lil Wayne debuts at #58.
  • Yo Gotti's 5 Star Chick finally debuts this week at #79. How do you drop a song, make a video, make a remix, and make a video for that song well before the original version even makes a dent on Billboard?? C'mon son!
  • Say Aah by Trey Songz debuts at #81.
  • Gucci Mane's Spotlight jumps 11 spots 97-86.

DJ Kay Slay - Blockstars (feat. Yo Gotti, Jim Jones, Busta Rhymes & Ray J) Video

If you remember when the mp3 for this song first hit the internet Plies was on the track and not Yo Gotti, but after Plies gave Kay Slay the run around about being in the video he said fuck him and replaced him. Just a little back story if you hadn't heard.

Speaking of people Kay Slay don't fuck with no more, didn't he and Busta fall out once upon a time?? I think I remember writing about that way back when. Oh well.

(Side note: It should be illegal to wear those Coogi sweaters Kay Slay had on, especially in New York. They don't look right on nobody but Big.)

Yo Gotti - 5 Star Bitch (Remix) (feat. Gucci Mane, Trina & Nicki Minaj)

Forget Gucci's speech and lyrical hardships, forget not caring about Yo Gotti, forget not have the opportunity to see Trina still lovely ass in this video, forget the strong possibility Nicki Minaj's body parts aren't real, forget all that! I wanna know what the fuck was up with Nicki's weird movements and facial expressions when she was doing her verse?? That shit was more creepy than sexy and I didn't see the point of it. Just weird.
