Thursday Billboard Update - 2/3/11

Amos Lee - Mission Bell
Hey Cake, you're off the hook. Amos Lee's Mission Bell has bested your album Showroom Of Compassion and is the new lowest selling #1 album in SoundScan history with 40,500 sold first week. Also debuting in the top 10 is Wisin Y Yandel's Los Vaqueros: El Regreso at #8 with 30,700 sold.

Some new blood is injected into the top 10 this week by P!nk and the Far*East Movement. P!nk's Fuckin' Perfect shoots to #2, up 9 spots from last week, and Far*East Movement's Rocketeer lands at #9 after previously sitting at #16.

On another Hot 100 note, it'll be interesting to see what Wiz Khalifa's Black & Yellow does next week if the Steelers win the Super Bowl Sunday.

10. The Decemberists - The King Is Dead (1-10)
  • Rough opening week for Talib Kweli as his Gutter Rainbows debuts at #29 with just 13,800 sold. I guess this is why no one drops albums in January.

2. P!nk - Fuckin' Perfect (11-2)

Kanye West - Chain Heavy (feat. Talib Kweli & Consequence)

Chain Heavy
Aight, now that we're all caught out musically, let's do this G.O.O.D. Friday/Saturday thing. Plus, we have a little bonus by Talib Kweli and Consequence.

Since My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy leaked this past week, I thought we wouldn't get a G.O.O.D. Friday track, but I'm damn grateful we did! It still baffles me that someone could make songs as hot as this and they don't make the album. Honestly, I would've given up G.O.O.D. Fridays if Kanye would've just dropped a double disc album featuring all this crazy heat. I mean, these songs are just too hot to be aimlessly floating around on the internet. I'm just saying.

Okay, that Kweli and Cons bonus track is after the jump.

This isn't Jay-Z's American Dreamin', but it is damn good regardless. Kweli and Cons tore this track the fuck down in every way possible. In fact, I dare you to name one negative thing about this track.

...Don't waste your time, you can't.

Thursday Billboard Update - 5/27/10

Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers
Nas & Damian Marley's incredible album Distant Relatives debuts at #5 with 57,000 album sold. I'm definitely gonna buy the album when I get a chance.

Usher's OMG hangs on at #1 and B.o.B's Airplanes notches one step closer to that spot and is now at #2. Miley Cyrus' Can't Be Tamed debuts at #8.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Glee Cast - The Music Volume 3: Showstoppers (1)
2. Rolling Stones - Exile On Main St. (2)
3. Black Keys - Brother (3)
4. Justin Bieber - My World 2.0 (1-4)
5. Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives (5)
6. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now (2-6)
7. Band of Horses - Infinite Arms (7)
8. Usher - Raymond vs. Raymond (7-8)
9. AC/DC - Iron Man 2 sdtk (4-9)
10. LCD - This Is Happening (10)
  • Janelle Monae's The Archandroid checks in at #17 with 21,100 sold. I guess its safe to say Diddy possibly changing the way promotion is done via retweets on Twitter won't be happening anytime soon.
  • One spot below Monae are Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek's Revolutions Per Minute, which also boasts 21,100 first week.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10

This Week In Flops 5/18/10

Nas & Damian Marley
At one point, I thought this day would never come, but finally it has. The promotion strategy was a little bit curious to me because I was seeing commercials for the album on ESPN2 at 11am. That's basically a waste of ad time. Well, I still think Nas' name can help carry it a little bit (I know that's a major factor in my eventual purchase), so I'm gonna guess it lands in the 50-80k range.

Janelle Monae
I like a lot of singers, but I don't think I love any of their voices as much as I do Janelle Monae's. There's just something about the sound of it that just strikes a nerve in me.

Unfortunately I'm one of the few people who feels that way, as this album has received little, to no promo from Bad Boy outside of retweets from Diddy on Twitter. Granted, Diddy does have over 2.5 million followers, but you'd just like to see more for such a talent. This could work though, because if just a few thousand of that 2.5 million listen to Diddy and go buy the album, this could change the game.

Seriously, if Janelle moves 300,000 first week almost solely off of retweets by Diddy, you don't think people would start paying Diddy to retweet their stuff?? Well I do.

Fingers crossed that that does happen, but just in case, I'm gonna guess somewhere in between 30-60k.

Reflection Eternal
I didn't even know this was an album, I thought it was just going to be a mixtape. Forgive me Hip-Hop purest, I have been a bit out of the loop with my music lately.

Anyway, I have the newest Kweli and Hi-Tek collabo album doing 15-30k.

Bizarre
I didn't even know this was on the horizon, and I'm sure you didn't either. One of the underrated "Worst Rapper Alive" candidates, I'm sure this album is awful. I'm guessing 3-15k unless Eminem pulls a Diddy and tweets about it non-stop for the next week.

Muzik Pt. 1

Raekwon - Heat Rocks

This shit is raw! When is that Only Built 4 Cuban Links II dropping??

Much more after the jump!

Rhymefest - Exodus 5.1

I love this! Sounds really 2003, but I really like it! lol.

Asher Roth - Silly Boy

No, no, no! I like Asher, but this shit is waaaaaay too Eminem.

Young Jeezy - That Ain't It (Uhh Uhh)

Jeezy really owned this track. If you had never heard T.I.'s version, you would've thought this was Jeezy's shit, it sounded that natural.

Maino - You Ain't (feat. Pleasure P)

I like both Maino and P, but this is nothing special.

Drake - Ignorant Shit (feat. Lil Wayne)

My homegirl Tah been telling me to check for this kid Drake for MONTHS now and I'm just now getting around too him. Not bad, not bad at all. Unfortunately there's only so good you can be on this beat considering how hard Hov bodied it.

Drake - Uptown (feat. Lil Wayne & Bun-B)

WTF is this?? Why is he trying so hard to spit like Wayne?? Weird...

Bobby Creekwater - Big Buildings

I know he's from Atlanta, but he was trying too hard too sound like it vocally on here, especially on the hook. It just sounded unnatural, like he was trying to be someone else.

Talib Kweli - My Favorite Song

Nice lil laid back track by Kweli.

VH1's 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs 81-100

This shit should've been called "100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs In No Particular Order" because I dunno what the fuck was going on lol. How is Oh Boy over They Reminisce?? How is Lapdance over Make 'Em Say Ugh?? How is Get Low over Just A Friend?? Anyway, here's the 81-100:

100. Biz Markie - Just A Friend
99. Ying Yang Twinz Feat. Lil Jon - Get Low
98. Warren G Feat. Nate Dogg - Regulate
97. Eve - Who's That Girl
96. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Parents Just Don't Understand
95. L'Trimm - Cars With The Boom
94. Master P Feat. Fiend, Silkk, Mia X, & Mystikal - Make 'Em Say Ugh
93. N*E*R*D - Lapdance
92. Yo-Yo - You Can't Play With My Yo-Yo
91. Chamillionaire Feat. Krayzie Bone - Ridin'
90. Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth - They Reminisce
89. Cam'ron Feat. Juelz Santana - Oh Boy
88. Jungle Brothers - What U Waitin' 4?
87. Wyclef Jean - We Trying To Stay Alive
86. Heavy D & The Boyz - Now That We Found Love
85. Black Star - Definition
84. U.T.F.O. - Roxanne, Roxanne
83. 2 Live Crew - Me So Horny
82. Chubb Rock - Treat 'Em Right
81. P.M. Dawn - Set Adrift On A Memory Of Bliss

So what do you think?? I think there's some good and some bad, but I gotta see how things fall into place more before I call this list complete bullshit (though I was about to when I saw Ridin' and Oh Boy made the list lol). Aight seeya tomorrow night for 61-80.

MuZik Pt. 1

Styles P. & Sheek - Barry Bonds Freestyle

They should've been on the original. Lord knows Wayne had no business being there.

Rick Ross - I'm Just Doing My Thing

When I first say this track earlier this week it said "Prod. by Kanye West" at the end of the title and once I heard it I was just like 'uh yeah Kanye produced it, but that was about 5 years ago and for T.I.'s Trap Muzik' lol. I dunno that was just weird, but I fuck with this though.

Jermaine Dupri - Swagger Like Us Freestyle

Fuck swagger, JD needs to get an engineer in there to get his levels right because the beat is way louder than his vocals so for the most part I don't even know what he was saying lol. Oh well, whatever he said had to be better than what Kanye and Wayne put forth lol.

Trey Songz - Whatever You Like Freestyle

This beat really makes me wanna go to sleep, but good job Trey...I guess lol.

DJ Felli Fel Feat. T-Pain, Sean Paul, Flo Rida & Pitbull - Feel It

This shit right here is jammin'! They're probably bangin' this on Power 96 in full rotation lol.

DJ L Feat. Junior Reid, Sheek, Cassidy, Harlem's Cash & Joell Ortiz - Take It To The Top

Who the fuck is Harlem's Cash and why is this nigga on the track?? We could've done without that verse...hell, we can do without niggas using "Hadouken" in a verse all across Hip-Hop because that is WACK! Everybody else did they're thing so its all good.

Dap-C Feat. Talib Kweli, Lil Wayne, & Royce Da 5'9" - Ma Money

Is that really Wayne on the hook or is that a sample?? Well whatever it was it sounded bad lol. The verses on here were hot though, even Wayne's so its all good. Well, everyone besides that person who spit after Kweli, who the fuck was that anyway?? I think some internet rap nigga put his own shit on there lol.

Talib Kweli Feat. Styles P., S.A.S., Ransom, & Fabolous - What I've Learned

I don't know what this shit is on or is gonna be on, but this shit is ridin'!

Talib Kweli Feat. Styles P., S.A.S., Ransom, & Fabolous - What I've Learned

This shit here is so murderous! I don't even really fuck with S.A.S. but they even held their own. I don't know who ripped it harder out of Ransom, Kweli, and SP...good problem to have lol. Wassup with Fab though?? We could've left that off the track I mean he had to know a majority of people heard that already on MM3 lol.

Videos I Never Posted

First let me start off with the music videos I never got a chance to post (aka never felt like posting lol) last week:

Talib Kweli - Hostile Gospel

Now, I've never been a fan of 2 grown men on one motorcycle, scooter, etc., but I can overlook that here because this song is powerful as fuck! Props to Kweli for this, we needed it.

Consequence Feat. John Legend - Feel This Way

I guess Cons is going to make a video for every track on his album (including the skits) until he gets another release date because this is literally at least his 9th video lol. Its all good if that's what he wants to do, but yeah anyway this song is tight! I even like John Legend's lil rap at the end. Speaking of the Legend, I went to buy my mom and best friend Daphne his live cd/dvd thing that you can only get at Target and those things were gone like a muthafucka! I was only able to find one (I stumbled on it somewhere out of place, someone probably was trying to hide it for later lol) and now I don't know who to give it to. Thanks John lol.

Anyway, was it just me or was that Consequence and video girl kiss at the end like one of the top 5 grossest looking kisses caught on camera in the history of... ever?? I just need to know I'm not alone lol.

Wu-Tang Clan - Take It Back

I'm guessing this was done because no one wanted to be in another video for that weirdo album they dropped lol. Still nice video effects nonetheless.

Swizz Beatz - Candy Green

Am I the only one who thinks this is retarded as fuck?? I can't be because this shit made little to no sense lol. Then again I didn't take much time to figure it out so you know lol. Too bad I didn't listen to the song first because if I had I probably wouldn't have wasted my time watching any of this video lol.

Sheek Louch - Good Love

No homo, but I need to fuck with the nigga that's making these D-Block videos because the last 2 (this and that SP and Swizzy joint) have been tight!

Talib Kweli - Momma Can You Hear Me

I remember my homeboys Rodney and Diderot laughing at Andy back in 9th grade when he was listening to Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek's album because we really didn't know who he was. Andy always maintained that he was tight, but I didn't get on to his shit until a little later on and that's been my nigga every since! Check out this new Kweli joint titled Momma Can You Hear Me:

Talib Kweli - Momma Can You Hear Me

Always stays consistent, always stays true.
