Random News Shit: NFL Free Agency Edition Pt. 2

1) Calvin Johnson Signs Richest WR Contract Ever
Doesn't it seem like the biggest WR contract ever is signed every year?? Regardless, Megatron's deal is $132 million for 8 years with $60 million guaranteed. We better never hear stories about him being broke when he stops playing.

2) The Eagles Finally Pay DeSean Jackson
I don't really like DeSean Jackson (mainly because I'm a Cowboys fan), but it's about damn time they paid the man. His deal is 5 years for $51 million

3) Peyton Hillis Signs With The... Chiefs?!
One year for $3 million for Peyton Hillis? What the fuck is going on?? Shit, I thought the Madden curse on lasted one season. Bad times in the Hillis family.

4) Cowboys Sign Brandon Carr, Kyle Orton, Brodney Pool & Lawrence Vickers
I like, I like, I like, I like!

Brandon Carr (5 years, $50.1 million) and Brodney Pool should help out our secondary right away. We still need to grab a couple cornerbacks in the draft, but this is a nice start for our bleeding secondary.

I loved Tony Fiammetta, but I'm more than open to having Lawrence Vickers on the roster, I mean, he did lead block for Arian Foster last season.

And of course Kyle Orton is more than welcomed in Dallas to back up Tony Romo (though I'm sure outsiders will start the "should Orton be the starter?" at some back next season).

5) Jags Sign Laurent Robinson

The deal is 5 years for $32.5 million with $14 million guaranteed. Not bad for a guy on the street at the beginning of last season.

As a Cowboys fan, I'm sad to see Laurent go, but I'm not mad at him one bit. In the NFL, if you have a chance to cash in, your ass better cash in (look at the deal Peyton Hillis just got). Besides, what does this really mean, we have to pass the ball to Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, and Jason Witten more? That's a bad thing? We'll be fine.

Speaking of former Cowboys...

6) Giants Sign Martellus Bennett

Good! I couldn't be more happy about finally getting this clown off our roster and onto the Giants'. Now when he's wide open and drops a pass that hits both of his hands, I can laugh and cheer.

Every damn year we heard about how impressive he was in training camp, then the season started and he never did shit. Good riddance.

NFL Winners & Losers: Wild Card Round

1) Eagles (11-5) @ Cowboys (11-5)
Do you know how much stock I put into that 24-0 win against the Eagles last Sunday?? Well if you guessed zero, you actually went a little too high. That game meant less than nothing. Philly played a series or 2 and quit, I don't care what anybody says. Yeah, they had the #2 seed and a playoff bye on the line, but I've seen the Eagles play plenty of times, and that wasn't them. I actually felt like I was being set up while watching that game, as if the Eagles had some master plan to keep our playoff win drought going. I mean they didn't blitz, receivers were dropping easy catching, McNabb was throwing off the mark, it just didn't seem right.

Anyway, lets get into some storylines and stats. Storyline #1, DeSean Jackson talking shit. First DeSean hit up Twitter after Sunday's game to say he and his team would "sting" the Cowboys' ass in tomorrow night's game. Then the guy hits up UStream to say, "Them boys are scared of me." In 2 losses to Dallas this season Mr. Jackson has 5 catches for 76 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Storyline #2, the Eagles's website director Dave Spadaro spitting on the star at midfield before last week's game. The Eagles can't seem to help, but give the Cowboys more and more motivation to get their first playoff win since 1996. I love it!

As far as stats go, Philly's defense has 25 INTs, but have given up 27 passing TDs. Andy Reid 7-0 in opening playoff games, Wade Phillips is 0-4 in the playoffs overall. And last, but not least, the Cowboys have never beaten a team 3 times in one season, but 12 of previous 19 have. That last one is daunting, BUT just because something has never happened, doesn't mean it can't. Cowboys winners, Eagles losers.

(Side note: Every time the Eagles and Cowboys have met in playoffs, the winner has gone on to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.)

2) Packers (11-5) @ Cardinals (10-6)
I exchanged a few texts with my old buddy Tyler (aka Pimp) yesterday about who we like in the playoffs this year. You already know who I like in the NFC, but guess who he took?? The got damn Arizona Cardinals! If we were speaking in person, he most definitely would've been subject to "the fuck you talking 'bout nigga?" face (yeah, you know the face, that one).

Don't get me wrong, what the Cards did in the playoffs LAST YEAR was great, but after all, that was indeed LAST YEAR. Not only aren't the Cards sneaking up on anybody this year, but they also don't have a "rookie QB on the road" team and a Jake Delhomme led team to gain momentum against this year.

And that's not even to mention their health issues with key players like WR Anquan Boldin and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

The Packers, on the other hand, are completely on fire right now. Aaron Rodgers is at the top of his game and he's already beat the Cardinals twice this season. Okay, okay, one of those was a preseason game (though it was the 3rd preseason game in which starters play into the 3rd quarter) and the other was last week when Arizona wasn't playing for anything. A win is a win though, and Green Bay knows they can beat AZ. And at the end of the day, they are a better team. Packers winners, Cardinals losers.

3) Ravens (9-7) @ Patriots (10-6)
Waaaay back in Week 4 these 2 teams met out in Foxborough. The result was a 27-21 win by the Patriots, but, as in most cases, the final score doesn't tell the whole story. This was a game littered with bad calls including a few phantom roughing the passer calls in favor of Tom Brady that extended a few New England drives. The other big factor was Mark Clayton's HUGE drop on 4th down inside the Pats' 10 with 28 seconds left in the game.

The reason I bring that game up is because the Ravens have not forgot. This Sunday if they get flagged for roughing the passer against Tom Brady, it'll be welled deserved. I expect to see the Ravens front four in Brady's face a lot. After all, not only did they need to get their revenge, but they also have to make up for their suspect secondary.

On the Pats side of things, all everyone is talking about is Wes Welker this, Wes Welker that. Here's something they may not have realized: New England won all 3 of its Super Bowls pre-Wes Welker. Look, the Patriots are a machine, when a part is missing, they just plug someone else in and keep it moving. I've been saying this for years, but the Pats are about the system, not the players. Does it help to have a Tom Brady, Randy Moss, and Wes Welker?? Of course. Does it make that big of a difference if they don't have one?? No. Julian Edelman will fill in fine.

The Pats offense won't be the unit to let them down, it'll be their defense. They'll have no answer for Ray Rice and their secondary is just as suspect as Baltimore's, minus Ed Reed. The Pats are 8-0 at home this season, but I just don't see them winning this one. Ravens winners, Patriots losers.

4) Jets (9-7) @ Bengals (10-6)
All of these games were tough to figure out, but this certainly was the toughest. When I say this game could go either way, it literally could. Two good defenses, two shaky pass offenses, two stout rushing attacks (that's includes two former Chicago Bears at RB in Cedric Benson and Thomas Jones).

The Jets dismantled the Bengals 37-0 in the season finale, but while doing so, they may have shown too much. I'm sure the Bengals wouldn't have thought to game plan for Brad Smith and the Jets' version of the wildcat, but they will, and that just put more pressure on Mark Sanchez's shoulders.

And speaking of Mark Sanchez, a rookie QB on the road is never a good thing. Lets not forget, what Joe Flacco did last season was a first all-time, rookie QBs still aren't to be trusted in the playoffs. Yes, I'm wondered about who Carson Palmer will throw to while Chad Johnson (he said he'd change his name if he got shut down last week, and I'd call 0 catches for 0 yards being shut down) is lost on Revis Island, but I can't take Sanchez on the road, most likely in snow. Bengals winners, Jets losers.

Top 10 Ultimate Building Blocks In The NFC East

ESPN.com's NFC East blogger Matt Mosley recently made up his list of top 10 building blocks from the division and this is what he came up with:

1) Eli Manning, NYG
2) DeMarcus Ware, DAL
3) Albert Haynesworth, WAS
4) Asante Samuel, PHI
5) Jason Peters, PHI
6) Jason Witten, DAL
7) Justin Tuck, NYG
8) Brandon Jacobs, NYG
9) Brian Orakpo, WAS
10) Brian Westbrook, PHI

Eli Manning is the most valuable person in the NFC East?? Really?? Last time I checked he wasn't even the best QB, let alone best player overall. Here's a real list composed by yours truly:

1) DeMarcus Ware, DAL
This is a no-brainer, need I remind you he had 20 sacks and 6 forced fumbles last year?? There's no question who I'm taking with my 1st pick.

2) Albert Haynesworth, WAS
Haynesworth already takes up a bunch of space in the middle, but with teams doubling Ware, he should be even more of a beast than ever before.

3) Donovan McNabb, PHI
Eli was human without Plax last year. Meanwhile, Donovan has been playing with mediocre receivers for years and still put up numbers. Plus, he won't fold in crunch time like Romo.

4) Osi Umenyiora, NYG
With Ware, Haynesworth, and Osi out there, I might not even need anymore offensive players. What are teams gonna do?? You can't double team them all so at least one of them is gonna kill you every play.

5) Jason Witten, DAL
Great blocker and pass catcher, Donovan could do wonders with Witten out there with him.

6) Asante Samuel, PHI
Asante gets picks even when QBs have time to throw so just imagine what he'd do with Ware, Haynesworth, and Osi putting the pressure on. He might catch 20 INTs. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he's from the 954.

7) Marion Barber, DAL
This was tough because the NFC East has such good RBs with Brandon Jacobs, Clinton Portis, and Brian Westbrook. I'd take Barber over all of them though because he runs tough, isn't easily taken down, is a beast in the 4th quarter, and isn't as injury prone as Portis and Westbrook. If he doesn't hurt his toe last year on Thanksgiving, he rushes for at least 1,200 yards.

8) Terence Newman, DAL
Newman is a game changer when he's on the field so he and Asante in my secondary equals WR lockdown.

9) DeSean Jackson, PHI
With Plax and T.O. both banished from the NFC East, Jackson is now the best receiver in the conference. Plus, not only does he stretch the field, but he gets me great field position on all those 3-and-out punts my incredible defense would force.

10) Jason Peters, PHI
This is gonna be a huge year for Peters, I can feel it. I have no idea why the Bills traded him. Oh well, he'll do wonders giving McNabb more time.

And there you have it. Nobody is fuckin' with this team and certainly not one led by Eli Manning.
