Swizz Beatz - Y'all Don’t Really Know (feat. DMX & Busta Rhymes)

Man, this would've been the shit if it came out in '99 or 2000. Not so much in 2010. DMX is almost on the verge of "Don't let him to the hook nobody what" status. Busta kills it though, and DMX's verses were good too. I'll pass this with a solid C.

Swizz Beatz - King Tut (feat. Rakim)

Well that was pretty boring, but I agree with what Swizzy said, Hip-Hop is back. You're lying to yourself if you don't think 2010 hasn't been an incredible year for Hip-Hop. More real shit, less bullshit.

Thursday Billboard Update - 11/26/09

Wow, not only did 50 Cent not grab the #1 spot, but he couldn't manage numbers 2, 3, or 4 either. Debuting at #5 is 50 Cent's Before I Self Destruct with 161,200 sold (I believe I called that). The sales reign for 50 is over.

The man who actually does get to sit atop the Billboard 200 is John Mayer as his Battle Studies pushes 286,000 out the store.

Jay-Z's Empire State Of Mind with Alicia Keys hangs onto the #1 spot for another week after seeing gains in airplay, sales, and online streaming.

• Last season's American Idol winner Kris Allen's self-title debut album comes in at #11 with 80,000 sold. I smell "Ruben Studdard/Clay Aiken 2.0" brewing with Kris and Adam Lambert. You know, the clearly gay guy, that didn't wanna admit he was gay during Idol, that came in 2nd place and ends up having a more successful career than the actual winner. I can smell it, I can see it.
• Leona Lewis' 2nd album Echo comes in at #13 with 67,300 sold, a far cry from her 2008 debut Spirit.
  
• Rakim's long awaited come back album The Seventh Seal comes in at #61 with 11,700 sold.
• Pretty Ricky's self-titled album debuts at #97, but I can find their sales figures anywhere. If Rakim did nearly 12,000 at #61, I'm guessing PR sold around 5,000.

• Trey Songz's Say Aah moves 13 spots up 81-68.
• Rihanna's Hard with Young Jeezy starts off at #80 this week.
• Melanie Fiona's It Kills Me comes in at #88.
• In a true shocker, the intro to 50 Cent's new album, debuts on the Hot 100 this week. The Invitation starts off at #97, lets see if it can hang around.

This Week In Flops 11/17/09

This album actually dropped yesterday, but it doesn't matter because I think this is the beginning of the end. Don't get me wrong, we'll still hear plenty from 50 Cent, but just not musically because this album is gonna flop and its gonna flop HARD! Let me give my prediction, and then we'll discuss. I have Before I Self Destruct moving something in the neighborhood of 105-165k.

Now of course that's not a flop for the vast majority of working rappers these days, but we're talking about Hip-Hop megastar 50 Cent here. In first weeks, 50 Cent doesn't sell in the hundred-thousands, his lowest first week total was 2007's Curtis and even that surpassed 600,000 (though mainly off the strength of Kanye West).

With the market the way it is, for BISD to not be considered a flop, I think its going to have to sell AT LEAST 300,000, but I just don't see it. I don't see the buzz, I don't see the hits, I don't see the movement, I don't see the interest. Plainly said, 50 Cent the rapper has run his course.

(Side note: The fact that 50 has run his course musically makes it all the more remarkable he was able to destroy Rick Ross they way he did. I don't know if that says more about the strength of 50, or the weakness of Ross?)

Its not the end of the world though, plenty of rappers die off. Look at Nelly, look at Juvenile, look at DMX. Once upon a time those guys were multi-platinum selling artists, but if they dropped albums today, they'd struggle to get over 100,000 first week. It happens. Its natural. Everybody can't be Jay-Z.

As far as albums actually coming out today, Rakim's long awaited The Seventh Seal is now in stores. Look, Rakim is a legend, but his missed the boat. His best shot at making a come back was back in 2002 when he was on a big hit in Truth Hurts' Addictive and still signed to Aftermath. Basically what I'm trying to say is that at this point, nobody cares. I know it sounds harsh, but you don't get that many chances to have a career in music, and you have even less chances to make a comeback. I'll give this album 5-15k.

These guys were a joke when Pleasure P left, but they really became a laughing stock after Spectacular when all...well, Spectacular back in May. I don't think many ladies have been checking for them ever since so don't be surprised if this is the last we hear from Pretty Ricky. I'll give them 5-15k as well.

I was listening to this Mannie Fresh song called Drought with Rick Ross yesterday and it was too funny hearing Mannie talk about selling and moving coke. That story really have nothing to do with anything, but it made me laugh, I thought I'd share lol.

Moving right along, I'm sure not many people even know this is dropping, but I'm gonna say it does somewhere in between 3-10k.

Triple C's - Break It Down (feat. Bun B)

Damn that nigga that rapped first was terrible. It was kinda sad actually. Thank goodness Bun came on and saved the song, but it was still pretty bad because the beat wasn't hot and the hook was trash. Ross still throwing jabs at 50 I see, I guess he still hasn't realized he lost that one.

Curren$y - I'm Just Dope

Curren$y's flow is so lazy and boring, but this track ain't half bad. I like the beat and he was spittin' so it was all good.

Rakim - Walk These Streets (feat. Maino)

Pretty good, I got no complaints. Sounds like Rakim kept one of those Dre beats from his stint on Aftermath though.

Cam'ron - Stop It 5 (feat. Vado)

I wasn't paying enough attention to know what the hell "5" really is, but this seemed like a pretty decent track. I know I definitely fuck with this beat if nothing else.

Wale - Fly Away

What they know about that Lenny Kravitz?? Pretty aight use of the sample, but Wale is just okay to me.

Anyway, Wale's album is still due November 10th as of right now.

Papoose - Paid A Grip

Better than some of the other stuff Pap has put out lately, but still not on the level of the shit he was dropping before the Jive deal. Still no Nacirema Dream in sight.

Ransom - Pursuit Of Happiness

Not sure what this is off of, but I like it. I recently found a bunch of Ransom shit so maybe I'll post it one of these days lol.

Jim Jones - Back On Black

Busta Rhymes - Hits For Days (feat. J. Holiday)

Haven't heard this type of track from Busta in a loooong time. I mean, if J. Holiday wasn't on it, you couldn't tell me this wasn't an unreleased track from some time between 1996-2003. Very old Busta. Not that there's anything wrong with the new Busta, but this is some shit I would've expected to hear on E.L.E. Either way, I fucks with this track.

David Banner - Something Is Wrong

Strong ass joint from David Banner! He turned into the Hulk for this shit. Something is wrong and the fact that no radio station would dare pick this up plays a part in the overall picture. Program directors would say its because of the somewhat anti-gay speech in the last verse, but they really wouldn't play it because they're too busy playing Soulja Boy and Stanky Legs.

Bully - Who The Fuck Is This? (feat. Sheek Louch)

Bully fits right in in D-Block like he was there the whole time. I don't know if he came up studying them or what, but he's spits their style perfectly. I fucks with Bully.

Cory Gunz - How We Set Em Straight

Cory Gunz is still super nice as you can hear. Not sure what this is/was on though because it wasn't on that Heir To The Throne mixtape with DJ Drama.

Chris Brown - I Can Transform Ya (feat. Lil Wayne & Swizz Beatz)

I'm not gonna front, I don't hate this song. Plus, its true because one disagreement with Chris Brown can transform any young lady from a bad bitch into a bloody, bruised mess (Shout out to Rihanna). Hey, fuck y'all, I ain't beat the girl up, he did lol.

Jacki-O - M.I.A.M.I. (feat. Brisco & Mowet)

I wonder if Jacki-O realized how much she sounded like a mixture between Foxy Brown and Lil Kim?? I don't mind it, but her and Fox obviously don't get along.

Anyway, I'm glad to see Jacki and Brisco have made up since that ugly wad of slap situation back in 2008. This track is really hot and we need more of this and less of that. Shouts to Mowet too, that dude has talent. Trust.

Jadakiss - Eurphoria (feat. Rakim)

Jadakiss definitely won this match-up of NY lyricists. Good to see Rakim working though.

Maino - Bandana (feat. Lloyd Banks)

Damn I wish I could find this track without all those annoying tags! This track is fiyah! The beat is straight stupid and Maino and banks handle it properly. Definitely gets my co-sign and stamp of approval.
