Thursday Billboard Update - 7/22/10

Recovery
Eminem's Recovery makes it a 4th week atop the charts with another 195,500 sold. Recovery doesn't seem to be losing much momentum, but it looks like it will be knocked from its birch next week by Rick Ross' Teflon Don. I can hear folks now who aren't "in the know" bragging about this victory for Ross, when the truth of the matter will be that he outsold Eminem's album in its 5th week in stores. It's not like these 2 albums are going head-to-head, Recovery will be 5 weeks in at that point and still will only be slightly outsold. Now I'm not saying any of this to put down Ricky or his album, but the truth is that Recovery sold more in its 4th week than Teflon Don will sell in its 1st, so be careful with all the potential "Rick Ross beat Eminem" accolades next week.

Eminem's Love The Way You Lie featuring Rihanna finally overtakes Katy Perry's California Gurls for the #1 spot. It's crazy Eminem only had 1 #1 single in the first 10 years of his career and has had 3 in the last past 2.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Eminem - Recovery (1-1)
2. Korn - Korn III: Remember Who You Are (2)
3. Drake - Thank Me Later (2-3)
4. Newsboys - Born Again (4)
5. Justin Bieber - My World 2.0 (5-5)
6. Sting - Symphonicities (6)
7. Jerrod Niemann - Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury (7)
8. Hellyeah - Stampede (8)
9. M.I.A. - /\/\ /\ Y /\ (9)
10. Various Artists - The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (4-10)
  • Curren$y's Pilot Talk debuts at #39 with 10,800 sold first week.
  • Paul Wall's Heart Of A Champion debuts at #58 with 7,600 sold.
  • Capone-N-Noreaga's War Report 2 fails to cracks the top 100 debuting at #104 with 4,700 sold.
  • All signs point to Stat Quo's Statlanta not charting on the Billboard 200.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Eminem - Love The Way You Lie (2-1)
2. Katy Perry - California Gurls (1-2)
3. B.o.B - Airplanes (3-3)
4. Taio Cruz - Dynamite (6-4)
5. Usher - OMG (4-5)
6. Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me (7-6)
7. Travis McCoy - Billionaire (5-7)
8. Enrique Iglesias - I Like It (8-8)
9. Drake - Find Your Love (9-9)
10. Jason Derulo - Ridin' Solo (10-10)
  • Usher and Pitbull's DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love is this week's top debut, checking in at #19.
  • Maroon 5's Misery jumps another 16 spots 44-28 this week. Good momentum building for this record.
  • B.o.B's Magic soars 19 spots 68-49.
  • After Rick Ross' B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast) featuring Styles P debuted at #98 last week, it flies 16 spots 98-82 this week.
  • Monica's Love All Over Me debuts at #94.

This Week In Flops 7/13/10

CNN
This promises to be a slow sales week for new Hip-Hop releases, but let's proceed anyway.

First up we have the sequel to Capone-N-Noreaga's 1997 classic debut album, The War Report 2. Last year's CNN release Channel 10 didn't do so well in the sales department, but I expect a biggest number this time around. Not much bigger, but still bigger. I'm guessing somewhere in the 10-40k range.

Paul Wall
Don't look now, but Paul Wall is now dropping his 5th studio album. Paul Wall hasn't seen much mainstream success since the Houston, TX movement fell off, but that hasn't stopped him from making music and cranking out albums like it has some other (i.e. Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, etc). That's a good thing. I'm gonna guess 20-60 for Mr. Wall.

Statlanta
Whenever I talk about albums that never dropped, Statlanta is routinely included on every occasion. Well that's no more as Stat Quo's debut album has been released today on Sha Money XL's Dream Big Ventures label after being on the self for a whopping 7 years.

Anyway, there wasn't much promo for Statlanta, but I'm sure he finally wanted to drop it and move on with his career. I'll be shocked mightily if sells more than 10,000 copies first week. I know that sounds bad, but when an album has been on the shelf that long and is just dropped without warning, you can't expect much higher. I say 3-10k.

(Side note: I guess I gotta take Statlanta off my "Top 10 Debut Albums That Will Never Debut" list. Good thing I haven't recorded that podcast yet lol.)

Stat Quo - Ghetto U.S.A.

Is it safe to say Atlanta is the most backwards city in Hip-Hop yet?? While niggas like Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka (F.Y.I. I have no idea if he's from Atlanta or even anywhere in the state of Georgia, but he doesn't just like an Atlanta nigga so I'm gonna attribute him to them lol) are dominant in that city, cats like B.o.B and Stat Quo are basically just wasting away.

Oh well, I'm predicting a change in Hip-Hop in the upcoming years. As the money leaves the game, I think the talent will rise once again, and all will be right in the world. Man, those days can't get here fast enough.

MuZik!!

Extremely hot! Nothing against 'Clef but I wasn't expecting this track to be this hot lol.

I liked the first one from War Angel LP much better. I mean this one is okay, but nothing special. Sounds more like a poor remix than anything. Anyway, Forever King drops tonight at 10pm on ThisIs50.com.

More shit from Curren$y, Slaughterhouse, and Stat Quo after the jump.

I love this track! Reminds me of 2006 and Bapes and hoodies and all that colorful shit lol.

I can't say I loved it. Joey and Joell ripped it with the back and forth thing but the shit was just too loud for my liking.

Its a positive track which is good but I'd be llying if I said I was in love with it. I mean its a good song, but it came off a bit generic. Not a lot, just a bit.

As Stat was spittin' I was thinking, if Slaughterhouse decided to add a 5th member from the South on their next album, would you be mad if that person was Stat Quo?? I know I definitely wouldn't be.

Started off well, ended up...well awful. What the fuck was he doing on those last few bars?? Just bad shit (and no not "bad real bad Mike Jackson" lol).

Muzik Pt. 3

Bobby Creekwater & Stat Quo - Say You Will Freestyle

They both killed this shit here! They could've found a better version of Say You Will to blend in with the hook but its all good lol.

Rhymefest - Coolness

I don't really like Rhymefest that much musically, but this shit right here goes hard.

Snoop Dogg Feat. Sly Stone - Dr. King Remember

I guess I should've saved this for Monday, but technically it is his birthday today so happy Birthday Dr. King. Its also my mom's birthday today too so happy birthday to her too.

Saigon - Trans-Atlantic Slave Deal

You already know what time it is when it come to Saigon. He needs to drop a mixtape or something if the album is never gonna drop.

Cory Gunz - Crack A Bottle Freestyle

Don't know why anybody would leave the hook on here if they were gonna spit over it but whatever.

Juelz Santana - Let's Cruise

This is some smooth shit right here, but I think he could've came with a better flow. This not really the kinda track you spit a bunch of punchlines on. Still decent overall in my books.

Twista - Wetter

I saw Twist always put this on his YouTube channel so I don't know if this is gonna be the first single off Category F5 or not. Either way I think its a dope lil track. I'll bump it.

Memphis Bleek - So Easy Freestyle

This beat is so sick I was hardly even paying attention to Memph lol. On the 2nd time around I could hear he was kinda rippin' too so that's even better.

Memphis Bleek - Jumping Out The Window Freestyle

Can't say the same for this track because I couldn't wait to turn it off the 1st time so there was no 2nd time lol.

Stat Quo - Dear Summer Pt. 2

Ne-Yo Feat. Jamie Foxx & Fabolous - She Got Her Own (Miss Independent Remix)

This shit is so fly nigga! Kinda slow, but I fuck with it...well besides Fab's verse, that shit just didn't go.

Killer Mike - My Life Freestyle

Illy!

Timbaland Feat. T-Pain - Talk That

MIMS - BaRock Star

What?? Mims with a hot track?? I so fuck with this!

Cassidy - How Real Is This

This beat is still classic!

DJ Kay Slay Feat. Sheek, Papoose, Tony Yayo, Junior Reid, Uncle Murda & Jim Jones - Don't Take It There (Remix)

This track was going great...and then Yayo spit lol. And how Jimmy gon' come in like that??

Twista - I Want My Dough

Termanology - Please Don't Go

Stat Quo Feat. B.o.B - My Ride

Stat Quo's debut album Statlanta has become one of those infamous shelved debut projects that I have no interest in hearing bigged up or label "coming soon" unless its actually got a solid release date. Others that fall under that rule are the following: Jae Millz's Back To The Future, Papoose's Nacirema Dream, and Saigon's Greatest Story Never Told. If you have any info on any of those previously mentioned albums, keep it lol.

With that being said, check out Stat's latest attempt at a first single:

Stat Quo - My Ride

What's that Dre?? Statlanta just got pushed back some more?? Oh ok, understandable lol.

Aftermath Studio Session Pt. 2

It seems like much longer ago than just Oct. 8th that I posted part one of this video, but here's part 2 with Busta, Stat Quo, and Bishop Lamont speaking some real shit:

That's right, Michael Jackson IS the illest nigga in the game! Like I've always said, if you think Michael Jackson is really broke you are retarded lol. There is NO WAY MJ can ever become broke...EVER lol. I like what Stat Quo had to say too about giving your opinion now opposed to 10 years ago or so, but I HATED all the unnecessary promo in the video. Its like damn I can barely here the audio now and y'all wanna put music under it lol.
