Young Money Releases Release Dates

Now, we all know Young Money is built on push backs, but recently they've come out with material. Of course, Drake and Nicki Minaj had to become 2 of the hottest artists in the world to get their albums out, but that's besides the point. What is the point you ask? Okay, okay, I don't really have one. In all honesty, I made this point to ask this one question:

How many of these 9 album will come out on the day it says on this paper?

My inner Hip-Hop Czar wants to say zero, but I'll be nice and say one. Can you guess which one I think will stick? No, go ahead, guess.

Well, if you guessed Birdman on July 5th, you're absolutely correct. And you know why? Because out of all the albums in Cash Money/Young Money history that have been pushed back, never once has one of them been Birdman's. I could be lying, but I can't think of one. Can you? I doubt it.

But yeah, all of these dates are subject to change (especially Bow Wow's, G. Malone's, Brisco's, and Lil Twist's), well, except for Baby's of course.

Anyway, Beyonce is always great, but over the past year all she's done with make 2 videos with Lady Gaga. Mary J. Blige had a decent year sales wise, but no real hit singles. Melanie Fiona is great, but lets be serious. Rihanna does mainly pop and alternative music, and Rude Boy alone isn't enough to win her this award. That leaves Alicia Keys. She had several hits over past year, stayed relevant the entire time, and her album went platinum fairly quickly. She's GOT to win this award.

(Side note: How in the hell did Melanie Fiona beat out Monica for a spot here?? Not only has Monica outsold her, BUT SHE HAS A TV SHOW ON BET!)

My Take: Let the records show now that if Trey Songz does indeed win, he deserved it. This was his breakout year, and you'd be hard pressed to find a female who doesn't want to help their neighbors know his name as well. I would give it to Usher though because I can't go anywhere without hearing OMG, Lil Freak, or There Goes My Baby! Whether I'm watching TV, driving in the car, or getting my haircut, you just can't escape them. And that's not to mention he's already outsold Trey, even though his album dropped 7 months later. Yeah he's Usher, but Trey is on fiyah right now with the ladies, he should have sold MUCH more than he has at the moment.

Also, Don't sleep on Maxwell. Ladies love him just as much, if not more, than Trey Songz and Usher. That's evidence by him coming from out of nowhere last year and selling 316,000 of his BLACKsummers'night in its first week. Here's the dark horse that could actually steal this one from the front-runners.

My Take: Even though Nicki hasn't really done much over the past year outside of a few cameos here and there, she's got to win this one because her competition is basically non-existent. The nominees were essentially thrown together just to say they gave out this award. Seriously, Ester Dean, Lil Kim, Rasheeda, and Trina?? Ester Dean had a minor hit, then disappeared, Lil Kim is only in the news because of a feud with Nicki and Drake, Rasheeda is still an underground artist, and Trina's Amazin' album dropped with so little fanfare than I'm not even sure Slip-N-Slide knows it's out yet. They might as well had thrown Foxy Brown and Missy Elliott in there too. If anything, Nicki wins by default.

Oh well, it's not her fault there haven't been many hot new artists over the past year.

(Side note: Why isn't B.o.B nominated here?? I mean, yeah, he's been out for awhile, but so has Nicki, Wale, Melanie Fiona, and pretty much everybody in Young Money. B.o.B having two #1 singles to his credit cancels out the fact that he just dropped his debut album this past March?? Okay, okay, it is a bit of a stretch to say Cory Gunz has a "career" BUT it really doesn't matter now because its all over anyway. I couldn't really hear what the fuck Baby was saying, but I guess it was a confirmation that Cory is indeed signed to Young Money now, and we all know that means he's come to terms with that fact he'll never drop an album on a major label.

Young Money is the Koch, but instead of signing old rappers who fell off, they sign underground rappers that never made it. They should start getting Saigon and Papoose's contracts ready now lol.

Thursday Billboard Update - 4/1/10

Surprise, surprise, Justin Bieber's debut LP, My World 2.0 (My World 1.0 was an EP), takes over the #1 spot. Okay, that actually surprised no one, but what really shocked the shit out of me was that he only sold 282,700. I mean, that's good figure if you're underrated rapper or something, but Justin Bieber is the big phenomenon of 2010. You can't go on Twitter, Facebook, or turn on a TV without seeing that kid's name. There's no excuse for him to not AT LEAST have sold 500,000 first week. These new young groupie bitches are lousy as fuck. Anyway, Monica's Still Standing came in at #2 with 183,800. That's damn good, did her last album even sell that total?? (Don't worry about correcting me, I already know it did.)

Vampire Weekend's Contra pushes 124,000 first week and takes over for Ke$ha's Animal atop the Billboard 200. That's pretty much the extent of the major movement here.

Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream finally loses her spot at #1 as Ke$ha's debut album Animal moves 152,000. Doesn't matter, Ms. Boyle's damage is done as she gets a triple platinum plaque to take home. The RIAA isn't shipping many of those out these days...then again, I don't think they actually ship those plaques out lol.

A little bit of action this week on Hot as Ke$ha debuts a track called Blah Blah Blah at #7. In addition, Young Money's Bedrock and Rihanna's Hard finally make it to the top 10.

Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream moves another 510,000. She's nearly triple platinum already with a total of 2,982,000 copies sold so far. Mary J. Blige's Stronger With Every Tear gets to hold down the #2 spot this week with 332,000 sold. The last top 10 debut is Young Money's album We Are Young Money at #9 with 143,000 sold. Enjoy it, its the closest any of y'all will get to releasing your own album on Cash Money or Young Money.

Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream has a strangle hold on the charts right now moving 661,200 and denying Alicia Keys the #1 spot for the first time in her career. That's right, Element Of Freedom comes in #2 despite selling 419,700 in its first week. Also making the top 10 is Robin Thicke's Sex Therapy at #9 with 123,200 sold.

Thursday Billboard Update - 12/10/09

Susan Boyle continues to reign over the charts as her I Dreamed A Dream moves another 527,000 and earns a platinum plaque in its 2nd week. Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas sees a 97% increase at #2 with 428,000 sold this week. R. Kelly's Untitled gets its start off at #4 with 114,300 sold.

Anyway, Nicki Minaj is aware that she fucked up the track, right?? i definitely could've gone without hearing "Peggy and Al Bundy. Ballin' like Van Gundy. Alligator heels on, Crocodile Dundee." Shit was wack as fuck and it messed up the whole flow and feel of the song.

Drake Sabotages Own Career, Signs With Young Money

Before I touch on the epic failure that is Drake signing to Young Money, I just acknowledge that Drake actually tore his ACL (never knew rapping and singing could be so tough on the knees for a non-female artist lol) which is why he was sitting down during the performance at the BET Awards (despite walking the red carpet with no assistance). Sorry to Drake and all his fans for making fun of him sitting down... when all along I should've been making fun of them not bringing his ass out in a wheelchair! I mean it was right there! They did the "Baby Boy" reunion, why not re-live Degrassi and let him reprise his role as Wheelchair Jimmy?? Missed opportunity by BET.

Anyway, this is a sad day for all Drake fans as his "bidding war" has ended with him officially signing with Young Money Entertainment. Can I get a moment of silence for his rap career please.

How dumb is this?? You constantly shout Young Money out in your raps, go back and forth between rapping like yourself and rapping like Lil Wayne, go out of your way to tell people you're not signed to the label, only to later sign with them in the end after a so called bidding war. Retarded. I guess you can say him saying he wasn't signed to them was a negotiation tool, but it really doesn't work the same when you're actively recording, performing, and hanging with the owner like a signed act.

I just don't see how that would help negotiations because on one end you have Young Money who you're hanging with, out on the road with, and always shouting out 3 or 4 times per rap. What part of that would give them any reason to believe you'd actually sign elsewhere?? Then on the other end, how much money is label B gonna put up to pry you away from the place you seem so happy with and are mostly likely gonna continue to shout out on records instead of label B?? Its like Lamar Odom becoming a free agent, but admitting he only wants to live on the beach. There's only 3 teams that play on the beach, one of which is his current employer. That essentially kills his threat of actually leaving because he's not gonna leave L.A. to live in Minnesota or Washington or Utah or whoever would wanna offer him a deal.

And of course all of that pales in comparison to knowingly signing your career away by being under the Cash Money/Young Money umbrella. He might as well had signed with No Limit, Bad Boy, Ruff Ryders, or any other label that's not going anywhere or releasing albums. Nah, scratch Bad Boy because getting an album out isn't the problem, getting the 2nd album out with any support from the label is the problem lol. Either way, signing to a label that has an owner that's reluctant to put that stamp on his own album probably isn't a good sign. Matter of fact, that's probably a worse sign than that same label existing since 2005 and only releasing 2 albums (both of which came out on the same day). Lets just say the prospects aren't that good.

So now the question is this: Will Thank Me Later ever drop, or will it join the likes of Back To The Future, Nacirema Dream, Statlanta, and countless other debut albums that were never released??

My answer is that I hope so, but I'm not holding my breath. Look, Drake is immensely talented and his buzz is nothing less than remarkable right now, but with him just starting recording on his debut album June 1st (who knows what the fuck he was doing before then), I'm not seeing him dropping this year. Maybe if the album was almost complete, but you can't expect the buzz from Best I Ever Had to last from now until December (which is when the album is projected to drop). Add that to the Young Money track record of not releasing albums and I'm not feeling confident about the situation.

Welp, the only people that really know are the ones at Young Money. Maybe they're willing to change there ways and try to capitalize on the biggest buzz in Hip-Hop since The Game in 2004. Again, I hope so, but I'm not holding my breath.

(Side note: I hope this doesn't come off like I don't like Drake because I've become a big fan since my homegirl forced me to listen to So Far Gone in March. I'm just really disappointed in the decision to sign with a label that doesn't drop album.)

With 211,000 sold in its 2nd week, Eminem's Relapse easily hangs on to the #1 spot for another week. He's about 2-3 weeks away from crossing the million sold barrier. Wisin Y Yandel's new album La Revolucion debuts at #7 with 35,700 sold.

The real story on the Hot 100 is Drake who is on fire right now, but I'll get to that in a separate post. Anyway, Pitbull's I Know You Want Me and Jeremih's Birthday Sex finds a new highs at #3 and #4 respectively. New to the top 10 are Keri Hilson's Knock You Down featuring Kanye and Ne-Yo (her first top 10) which jumped 13-7, Sean Kingston's Fire Burning which jumped 12-8, and Lady GaGa's LoveGame which jumped 22-10.

• Young Money's Every Girl (which should really be called "Drake's Every Girl featuring Young Money" since the only reason its getting played is because he's on it) also sees a major jump of 75-35. That's a 40 spots jump!

R.I.P. To The Career Of Jae Millz

Well to be fair Millz was still an underground artist and hadn't really started his career yet, but now its definitely not going anywhere as he's sign to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment. Maybe it was desperation, but I just don't see why Millz would shoot his own career in the head like this lol. I guess he hasn't noticed that NO ONE signed to Young Money has EVER dropped an album. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see if they actually do something with him, but I'll just sit and wait until the disses from the disgruntle artist on the bench start to fly lol. [FULL STORY]
