Diddy Officially Announces Cable Channel Revolt

Last month I wrote about Diddy's plans to start a new cable channel (and even suggested some content), and today he officially confirmed it via YouTube.

I feel like I need a job at Revolt, where do I apply?

Diddy Planning On Starting A Cable Network

Here's the details:

Sean Combs, the entertainment impresario known as Diddy, is planning to launch a music-themed cable network, according to three sources with knowledge of his plans. The channel is called Revolt and is aiming to launch at the end of the year--12/12/12, to be specific.

Sources with knowledge of the Revolt playbook describe it as a music and music news channel with an urban skew. One described it as the old days of MTV, but for more of the African American audience. The venture is well funded, say the sources.

This is an excellent idea and I'm behind it 100%. You would be hard pressed to find something involving Diddy that I'm not willing to watch and this would be no exception. Besides, I can't wait to see what happens to the careers of on-air talent once their dropped from the network.

And with being said, here's a few original show suggestions for Revolt:

-"Remember Me?"
This would be a game show where contestants try to identify former Bad Boy artists through a series of questions.

-"REALigion with Shyne & Loon"
This would be a religious talk/debate show hosted by the 2 rappers Diddy drove deep into religion, Shyne and Loon.

-"The PerSUIT"
This would be a reality competition show to find the next great suit maker, of course hosted by Chopper. (Yes, it will be in his contract that he will have to wear the original Chopper Suit in every episode.)

Diddy, you're welcome.

Diddy & Shyne Reconcile

This actually happened a couple days ago, but I couldn't decided if making fun of Shyne would get me sent to Hell or not. I'm still not sure, but rest assured that he will be nominated for a 2012 L.A.M.E. Award in the category of Lamest Hair (Male). Whatever, I'm just happy he's no longer making God-awful music.

(Side note: Let the records show that this is the 2nd rapper Diddy has sent into a weird religious extra (Loon being the first). I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's only a matter of time before French Montana is doing an interview live from Vatican City after his ordination. Book it.)

Jay-Z Tops Forbes List Again

Surprise! Jay-Z made more money than anyone else in Hip-Hop over the last year. Hov topped the list with $37 million earned, followed by Diddy with $35 million earned, and a steep drop off to Kanye West at #3 with $16 million earned.

Check out the top 20 earners in Hip-Hop after the jump.

1) Jay-Z ($37 million)
2) Diddy ($35 million)
3) Kanye West ($16 million)
4) Lil Wayne ($15 million)
4) Birdman ($15 million)
6) Eminem ($14 million)
6) Snoop Dogg ($14 million)
6) Dr. Dre ($14 million)
9) Akon ($13 million)
10) Ludacris ($12 million)
11) Wiz Khalifa ($11 million)
11) Drake ($11 million)
13) Pharrell Williams ($10 million)
14) Timbaland ($7 million)
15) Swizz Beatz ($6.5 million)
15) Nicki Minaj ($6.5 million)
17) Rick Ross ($6 million)
17) 50 Cent ($6 million)
17) Pitbull ($6 million)
20) T-Pain ($5 million)
20) B.o.B ($5 million)

No Lil B? Damn, I thought I'm Gay was gonna change the game.

Besides Lil B's absence, another interesting thing about this list is how much records sales don't matter at all anymore. Eminem sold waaaaaaay more albums in the past year than anyone else on the list, but is only the 6th biggest earner, tied with Snoop Dogg (whose album flopped) and Dr. Dre (whose album is an ancient myth). Also, Nicki Minaj has sold nearly a million more albums than Wiz Khalifa in the past 12 months, but he made $11 million and she only made $6.5 million, just $500,000 more than Pitbull whose album was just recently released.

The lesson this list has taught us: Fuck album sales, tour, tour, and tour some more... or makes some crazy popular headphones (Dr. Dre)... or have Lady Gaga under contract (Akon).

Thursday Billboard Update - 12/23/10

Speak Now
Taylor Swift's Speak Now overtakes Susan Boyle's The Gift for #1, but blah blah blah. "Michael Jackson's" Michael debuts at #3 with 228,200 sold. R. Kelly's Love Letter debuts at #6 with 154,300. What can you say, the man has a real fan base. Dirty Money's Last Train To Paris exceeded expectations of 65,000 and sold 100,900. (Let the records show I was WAY closer with my prediction for the album. I guess that's why I'm the Industry Prognosticator and they aren't.)

Katy Perry's Firework is still #1, but it's becoming increasingly obvious that Bruno Mars' Grenade will finish the year out at #1, as it inches into the #2 spot this week. The biggest news on the Hot 100 this week is Lil Wayne bursting into the top 10 at #9 with his first post-prison single 6 Foot 7 Foot with Cory Gunz. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Taylor Swift - Speak Now (2-1)
2. Susan Boyle - The Gift (1-2)
3. "Michael Jackson" - Michael (3)

9. Kid Rock - Born Free (15-9)
10. Glee Cast - Glee, The Music Vol. 4 (8-10)
  • Tank's Now Or Never starts off at #35 with 43,700 sold.
  • Ciara's Basic Instinct debuts at #44 with 36,700 sold.

Diddy's Parties Are Always On FIRE!

This shit is too fuckin' funny! I'm just at a loss for words because I can't stop laughing. I'll let y'all make the jokes this times.

Anyway, homegirl's name is Miyoki and shockingly enough, she's both a model and a singer. Try to fight back your shock because that combination hardly ever happens. If you want to holla at her on Twitter and give condolences to the back of her head, you can hit her up @Miyoki.

This Week In Flops 12/14/10

Before I start, I want to remind everyone that a Michael Jackson album called Michael also dropped this week. I would've included it in today's proceedings, but I felt uncomfortable with putting the King Of Pop under the title "flop."

Aight, we have a lot of albums to get through again, so I'm gonna make these short and sweet.

Dirty Money
First up, the Last Train To Paris. If you're one of Diddy's 3,121,625 followers on Twitter, you're well aware this album is now in stores. Hopefully it's not all for nothing like Soulja Boy and his 2 million-plus followers last week. For Last Train To Paris, I'll say 115-140k.

R. Kelly
All I've been hearing is good things about this R. Kelly album. I guess he's done making foolish tracks like Real Talk, and got back to the real shit that made him who he is. Is all the acclaim coming too late to sway his first week numbers?? Possibly, but he's the R, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say 80-110k.

Ciara
Ciara is still the sexiest chick with no body in the world, and I'd still pick her #1 overall in the Sex Draft, but I'm not sure anybody is checking for this album. I hope they are because I like her, but I just don't feel it or see it. I'm gonna say it falls in the 30-60.

Tank
Good ol' Tank is back at them again, and I think he's good for 30-60k.

Kandi
I don't know much about this project, but a lot of people watch that show she's on, so I'll say 20-45.

Sheek Louch
Donnie! Def Jam let's another one go under the radar, I'll say 10-25k.

Thursday Billboard Update - 12/9/10

Susan Boyle
Susan Boyle's The Gift returns to the top of the charts pushing out another 271,600 records. Last week's #1, Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, falls fast to #7 with 108,400 sold in its 2nd week. Last week's #2, Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday, follows Kanye's lead again and falls to #8 with 103,100 sold.

Another week, another new #1. This week it's Katy Perry's Fireworks inching 1 spot up to the top.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Susan Boyle - The Gift (3-1)
2. Taylor Swift - Speak Now (4-2)
3. Jackie Evancho - O Holy Night (5-3)
4. Glee Cast - Christmas Album (10-4)
5. Glee Cast - Glee, The Music Vol. 4 (5)
6. Black Eyed Peas - The Beginning (6)
7. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (1-7)
8. Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday (2-8)
9. Josh Groban - Illuminations (12-9)
10. Rihanna - Loud (6-10)
  • Jazmine Sullivan's sophomore album Love Me Back begins at #17 with 55,700.
  • Chrisette Michele's third effort Let Freedom Reign launches at #25 with 42,100.
  • Eric Benet's Lost In Time (which I had no idea was out) debuted at #33 with 32,200 sold.
  • Ron Isley's Mr. I starts off at #50 with 22,400 sold.
  • Another album I didn't know dropped, Slim Thug's Tha Thug Show, debuts at #89 with 13,800 sold.
  • And flopping again is Soulja Boy's new piece of shit The DeAndre Way checking in at #90 with just 13,200 sold in its first week. No need for jokes, those sales figures are embarrassment enough.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Katy Perry - Firework (2-1)
2. Pink - Raise Your Glass (1-2)
3. Rihanna - What's My Name (5-3)
4. Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit) (9-4)
5. Bruno Mars - Grenade (10-5)

  • Akon's Angel re-enters the Hot 100 this week and lands at #57.

Fly Nigga Shit

Doesn't it seem like Diddy is playing the character Diddy?? Oh well, you gotta love that nigga regardless. Honestly, I don't even know why I'm posting this video right now. Boredom? Maybe. Because I'm fly? Most definitely....not. I'm suede-less, so according to Diddy, my flyness is nullified.

Young Jeezy & Diddy Get Release Date

No, I didn't make a typo in the title of this post, Young Jeezy and Diddy didn't get separate released dates, they got one release date. The former Bad Boy employee will go head up against the Bad Boy employer on December 14th.

Now this totally ruins my column about why Jeezy and The Game should join forces and make a rap duo since they can't get release dates for their 4th albums after dropping 2 mixtapes in 2010, but now it looks like Game is all alone. If December 14th comes and goes without TM103, then maybe I'll revisit the idea.

Oh Shit, Diddy Kilt It!

Was Diddy actually wearing a kilt?? No, seriously, was he?? I was busy admiring Kalenna's ass for the entirety of this video. Who knew she had all that talent to offer?? Nice!

All jokes aside, who cares if Diddy had on a kilt?? I could see if he was at the BET Awards, but THE NIGGA WAS IN SCOTLAND! That's like making fun of someone for wearing a black and white striped shirt in Paris, or a Kung Fu suit in China, or a pair of skinny jeans in Atlanta, or nothing in Africa. Too far?? My bad. Well the point is this: it's no big deal!

Besides, I was way more pissed Diddy had to lip-synch classics from his own catalog than the fact he was wearing a man-skirt.

Now, let's take one final look at Diddy in his kilt, laugh, and put it to rest.

Diddy - Shades (feat. Lil Wayne & Justin Timberlake)

LAS VEGAS - SEPTEMBER 04: Music artist Sean 'Diddy' Combs appears as he hosts a party at the Wet Republic pool at the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino September 4, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Not sure what this is gonna be on, if it's gonna be on anything, but it's worth a post.

So Lil Wayne is Andre 3000 now??

Anyway, call me crazy, but I do NOT hate this record. I could've gone without all those failed attempts at clever punchlines by Timberlake, but other than that, I like the feel of the record. Makes me want to pull out my Press Play CD.

Speaking of Diddy albums, where the hell is the Last Train To Paris?? I almost positive we've passed the last release date by now. Maybe Diddy should take a break from retweeting everything Rick Ross tweets and get back in the lab, though that album should be done by now.

Random News Shit: Hip-Hop Headlines Edition

Kanye West performs 'Power' at the 2010 BET Awards in Los Angeles June 27, 2010.
1) Kanye West Declares Every Friday A G.O.O.D. Friday
So Kanye is gonna be dropping new tracks every Friday until Christmas?? That's 18 tracks worth of Fridays! This is great news. Hopefully he doesn't leak too many album tracks because I don't want the experience to be ruined (I've spoke on this before, but I hate hearing albums when I've already heard 70% of it through leaks). It looks like Kanye can use Twitter for good after all.

2) Eminem To Perform At VMAs
This decision to watch the Cowboys game or watch the VMAs is getting harder and harder with each passing day. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3) Diddy Denies Doing Former Artists Dirty
First off, why is Cassie on the cover?? She does know her music career is over, right??

Anyway, Diddy does kinda have a point here. Rappers lifespans are generally short, BUT most of those labels he named either don't even exist anymore or are not relevant anymore. Even still, those labels launched major artists who went on to do major things, and it always seems like former Bad Boy artists just completely disappear. That's the real problem. Bad Boy is short on Kanye Wests, and Eves, and Rihannas, and long on G. Deps, Black Robs, and Shynes.

So no, I don't think Diddy is a crook or anything, but would I sign with Bad Boy?? Hell FUCK no lol.

4) T.I. Prepping Animated Series, 'Lil Homies'
Welp, maybe T.I. will be the first rapper to successfully pull this off, because as far as I know, Andre 3000 and David Banner's cartoon shows are no longer on the air. I guess will have to wait and see.

How funny would it be if Tip was shopping "Lil Homies" to Nick Jr.?? That'd be classic.

5) Lil Boosie Releasing New Album From Prison
And but of course the new album is entitled Incarcerated. The album is due out September 28th, and if his legal shit goes how it's expected this won't be his last album released from behind bars.
