I guess this is what happens when R&B artists stop making R&B music. Meek Mill's Dreams & Nightmares falls to #8 in its 2nd week with 41,100 sold. Lastly, Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d. city slides to #9 with 40,100 copies sold.

Thursday Billboard Update - 9/27/12

P!nk's The Truth About Love is the new #1 album in the country with a hefty 280,000 albums sold. Shockingly enough, this is her first #1 album, though it's not the first time she's sold over 200,000 records in the first week. Coming in at #2 is Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music album Cruel Summer, with 205,000 copies sold. Normally I wouldn't mention this, but Carly Rae Jepsen's album Kiss finally came out and it starts at #6 with 46,000 copies sold. While that would be a lot for some (see Kreayshawn below), it doesn't seem like much for the woman with the biggest single of 2012, Call Me Maybe. The scent of one-hit wonder is getting stronger.

Only one major change in the top 10 this week, and that Psy's megahit Gangnam Style flying 9 more spots (11-2) and being on the verge of being the #1 song in America next week. Whoa, crazy, crazy! (Shout out to the 06010 and Fantasy Focus Football Podcast.)

Thursday Billboard Update - 7/19/12

Frank Ocean's Channel Orange debuts at #2 with 131,000 sold, just behind the Zac Brown Band's Uncaged with 153,000 sold. Frank Ocean's sells mostly came from iTunes, as his physical CD only sold about 3,000 copies. If his newfound fans were looking for a place to direct their anger, Amazon would be that place because they offered the Zac Brown Band's album for only $3.99 all week, which helped them surpass Frank for the #1 spot. Just putting it out there.

The big news on the Hot 100 is P!nk's Blow Me (One Last Kiss) soaring 58-9 in it's 2nd week on the charts. Also entering the top 10 is Flo Rida's Whistle, which rises 5 spots 12-7.

Some new blood is injected into the top 10 this week by P!nk and the Far*East Movement. P!nk's Fuckin' Perfect shoots to #2, up 9 spots from last week, and Far*East Movement's Rocketeer lands at #9 after previously sitting at #16.

Thursday Billboard Update - 1/20/11

Remember last week I told you Taylor Swift's Speak Now was the lowest selling #1 album in the history of SoundScan with 52,000 sold that week? Also, remember me telling you she wouldn't hold that dishonor long? Well one week later, her record has been bested by a band named Cake, and their album Showroom of Compassion, which sold just 44,000 units in its debut week. Cake also now holds the dishonor of having the lowest selling #1 debut in SoundScan history as well. Tough break for Cake.

Unlike the Billboard 200, there was some real action popping off on the Hot 100. The big star this week is Britney Spears, whose new single Hold It Against Me debuts at #1. On top of that, Spears becomes just the 2nd artist in Billboard history to debut multiple singles at #1 (her single 3 debuted at #1 in October '09). Mariah Carey was the first to do it with Fantasy and One Sweet Day in 1995, and Honey in 1997.

Thursday Billboard Update - 1/13/11

Taylor Swift's Speak Now is still #1, but with 52,000 copies sold this week, it now holds the unfortunate honor of having the lowest sales week of any #1 album in the history of Nielsen SoundScan. But with sales declining by the year, I'm sure she won't hold the dishonor for long.

Thursday Billboard Update - 12/2/10

As expected, Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy comes in at #1 with 497,100 albums sold. And also as expected, Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday comes in at #2 with 376,000 sold. That's the 2nd highest opening week for a female hip-hop album in Billboard history (Lauryn Hill is #1). Finally, coming in at #9 is Ne-Yo's Libra Scale, which sold 112,500.

There's another new #1 this week, and it's P!nk's Raise Your Glass rising from #2. Two new singles crack the top 10 this week, Black Eyed Peas' The Time (Dirty Bit) (13-9), and Bruno Mars' Grenade (17-10).

Thursday Billboard Update - 10/21/10

A bunch of crap we don't care about debuted this week, but the big story is Lil Wayne's I'm Not A Human Being jumping 16-1 with another 125,300 sold. Oh well, Fuck Lil Wayne 2.5 is out and that's what's really important.

We have a new #1 on the Hot 100 this week and it's Far*East Movement's Like A G6. Now I've never heard this song, but I did hear this group was from L.A., so I'm sure it's wack. Anyway, debuting at #6 is Taylor Swift's Back To December. Finally, Trey Songz's Bottoms Up featuring Nicki Minaj moves up 3 spots 13-10 this week. This marks the first top 10 single Nicki Minaj has been apart of.
