Men Of Respect: James Harrison & Hines Ward
Out of everything I saw, and all the craziness that ensued, this James Harrison interview was the clear cut highlight of Media Day for me. That's why Harrison is one of my Men Of Respect today. The only thing that could've made that interview better is if he said "fuck Roger Goodell" at some point in it. That would've been so awesome! See, that's why I need to get rich, because I would love to pay that fine for Harrison. Goodell is a hypocrite and he's turning the NFL into a joke. Fuck him.
Now on to Hines Ward. Check out what he had to say to GQ on the topic of concussions:Man, nobody paid attention to that video. We don't know what they want. They're so hypocritical sometimes.
They came out with these new helmets that are supposed to stop concussions. If they care so much about our safety, why don't they mandate that we wear the new ones? If they're so worried about what concussions will do to us after our careers, then guarantee our insurance for life. And if you're going to fine me for a hit, let the money go to veteran guys to help with their medical issues. To say the league really cares? They don't give a f*ck about concussions.
And now they want to add on two extra games? Are you kidding? Come on, let's be real. Now that these new guidelines are in place, you'll see more and more guys lying to doctors to stay on the field.
Contracts aren't guaranteed. If a guy's contract is coming up and he gets his bell rung-and if he has a concussion, he'll have to leave the game and maybe miss another one-trust me, he ain't tellin' nobody. Look at [49ers running back] Brian Westbrook. He was an elite player who had concussion issues, and he struggled to find work after the Eagles cut him. Guys saw that. I'm telling you, if you're a guy on the bubble or playing for your next contract, you're going out there and jeopardizing your life to get that payday. via "Inside The Helmet" from GQ.com

Random News Shit: NFL Headlines Edition
Wow, so he's that confident the NFLPA and the rest of the players will cave like Antontio Cromartie did? Yeah, unfortunately he's probably right, but here's my question: Why $1? Why not no dollars? If you're the guy in charge, and you let the business that made an average of 55 million Americans stop and watch, you deserve nothing if said business has a work stoppage because you couldn't properly divide up the billions of dollars.
Sorry Roger, but I'm not impressed.
2) Chad Going Back To Johnson
Yes, I realize this and the next couple story are old, but I still wanted to comment on them since I haven't really had the chance to.
Anyway, 2 thoughts on this topic: 1) it's about gotdamn time, and 2) good thing I never changed his name in the tags on my website.
3) Michael Vicks Gets First Post-Prison Endorsement Deal
Okay, it isn't Nike or Gatorade, but it's a start.

Vick Eligible To Play Week 3
Mike Vick met with Roger Goodell this morning and this afternoon his made a decision on his playing status for the regular season: Vick will be able to play week 3 after serving a 2 game suspension. Sounds fair, which seems like a peculiar thing to say about a Roger Goodell ruling lol.
Anyway, the date is set, its September 27th against the Chiefs in Philly. He most likely won't play, but its nice to know that he could if he had to. Either way, the 2 dates I'll be looking forward to are November 8th and January 3rd!

The Video Board Wins! The CYST Is Born!!
This is probably the right decision for right now anyway. The Cowboys shouldn't be faulted and made foot the bill for raising the video board when it was built under the NFL's guideline and also approved by the league. I'm guessing the NFL didn't want to pay for it to be done either so 2009 will pretty much be a trial run to see if something actually needs to be done for 2010.
Here's my thing though, if you aren't trying to hit it you won't. If you're actively trying to hit it like the Titans' punters were in warm-ups and in the 4th quarter last week then its a problem. Now with the do-over rule punter will be forced to do it the right way so they don't tire out they're special teams unit by doing it over and over again.
On a sidenote, the "New York Yankees theory" (which I'm officially renaming the "Cowboys/Yankees Stadium Theory" or the CYST) is alive and well! Not only did both clubs lose their respective legendary stadium finales AND miss the playoffs in their 2008 seasons AND win their first exhibition games in their new place, but both of their new billion dollar stadiums were each built with a major flaw. The Cowboys have the "we built our video board too low and punters are gonna keep hitting it throughout the season" problem and the Yankees have the "we built our new stadium into a wind tunnel that turns routine outs into homeruns" problem. Two problems that are garnering a lot of media attention. Two problems that could've been avoided with a little more research. Two problems that are gonna have to wait until the offseason to be fixed. Two problems that could potentially work to each team's advantage. Oh yeah, its the CYST baby, and its on!
Now that the CYST campaign is under way I might even print up some "Do You Believe In CYSTs?" and "I InCYST Its Real" shirts with pin-strips and stars. By golly, I think I might be onto something!)

Donte' Stallworth Suspended For 2009 Season
I know I get on Goodell from time to time, but he had to do this. He had no other choice but to do this. And for that reason, and that reason alone, I'm not mad at him.
Oh well, ain't like the Browns were going anywhere this year anyway lol. Seeya in 2010 Mr. Stallworth.

Random News Shit: SportsCenter Edition
Well its about damn time! It took 9 attempts, but the Yanks finally got their first win over the Sox. Damn, why didn't I bet on this game??
2) Rashard Lewis Tests Positive, Gets 10 Game Suspension
Seems much worse than it actually is. Stern should reduce the sentence to 3-5 games.
3) Stallworth Sorry, Will Accept Goodell's Ruling
As if he had any other choice lol.
4) Cousin/Advisor: Crabtree Skip '09 Season
Problem number 1 with this situation: You have a cousin/advisor lol. You can have a cousin that give you advice, but once you give that cousin a job as an advisor you're crossed the line. I'll believe it when I hear it from Crabtree or his agent, but either way these rookies need to stop being bitches and sign their damn contracts! I can see Crabtree's career going down the tube already.

1) Vick Conditionally Reinstated
Here's my question: What more can this guy prove?? He committed a crime, but its one that has NOTHING to do with his character or the way his behaves day to day. I mean, its not like he was a rapist and now Goodell needs to see that he's done with his raping ways. He fought dogs! He went to jail and lost all of his money, do you seriously think he's gonna start another dog fighting ring?? Exactly! So like I said, what it there to prove??
2) Lincecum Throws Career-High 15 K's
There was a bet last night on ESPN's Streak For The Cash about who'd throw more strikeouts Tim Lincecum or Felix Hernandez (needless to say who won), but I missed it because the Yankees/Rays game ran long. That would've been an easy win though, this kid is a beast!
3) Wade Continues His Recruitment Of Odom In L.A.
The Lakers already stupidly lowered their offer to him so maybe Wade will bring him back to Miami. We all know Lamar wants to live on the beach and what better beach is there to live on than South Beach?? (Well, besides the beaches in Rio of course.)
Lets talk about the Lakers for a second though. What the fuck are they doing?? Does Mitch Kupchak really think the Lakers can repeat without Odom?? I hope not because they DEFINITELY can't.
4) Hornets, Bobcats Swap Okafor, Chandler
The Hornets had to get rid of Chandler. After stupidly trying to trade him last season shit was never gonna be the same again.
On another note, remember when "Dwight Howard or Emeka Okafor" was actually a discussion?? Awww, the good ol days lol.
5) Jonathan Bender Plots NBA Comeback
Believe it or not, Bender has done quite well for himself outside of basketball. He should stick to that because he wasn't that good before the injuries and I doubt he'll be better now.

T.O. Weighs In On Vick Suspension
Of course this will get blown out of proportions tomorrow on ESPN, but the man does have a point. Was Vick not suspended for the past 2 seasons already?? I remember Goodell suspending Vick before he even went to trail. I don't even think training camp had started when that happened and now he wants 4 more games?? The man's life has already been ruined, let him play!
Now, on the other end, even if Vick got with a team, what's the chance he'd actually see much, if any, playing time during the first 4 weeks?? Chances aren't much so the 4 game suspension will be irrelevant at the end of the day.
Hmm, I wonder if this will make the Bills think of maybe bringing in Vick to back up Trent Edwards??

1) Mike Vick Officially A Free Man Today!
Here's the great news, Michael Vick has been released from federal custody and is now free to return to the football field. I hope my dude can find some work in the NFL AS A QUARTERBACK (you know they always hated that a black QB was ballin' like that and always wanted to make him a RB), but I'd be lying if I said shit didn't look bleak as of right now. Not only does he have to get a team willing to take a chance, but he also has to get reinstated by Dictator Goodell. Good luck!
2) Paula Abdul May Be Leaving 'Idol'
When Ryan Seacrest got that 3-year/$45 million contract to stay on American Idol last week, I wondered how much the judges were getting paid if he was getting that kinda money. Well in the case of Paula Abdul, its obviously not much. Word on the Idol streets is that Paula isn't coming back to the show because the powers that be only wanna pay her about $2 million a year.
If that's true, that is sooo fucked up! Seacrest gets $15M while Paula only gets $2M?? Something doesn't sound right to me so I don't know if I believe that rumor (the rumor is her getting $2million, her maybe leaving Idol is a fact).
Welp, auditions for the new start August 6th so they better get this all settled soon. Looks like this may be the beginning of the end.
3) Big Boi Headed To Def Jam
What?? Jive is not a great place to be, but Def Jam?? I don't know Big. Then again, he does get to team back up with L.A. Reid so maybe this is a good thing. Plus, at least its not Bad Boy or Cash Money where we know there's no chance of the album coming out lol. I wonder what these means for the new OutKast album if its even really being made??
4) Nick Cannon 'Overseeing' Cory Gunz's Debut, Producing Reality Show
Cory Gunz CLEARLY doesn't want to succeed. I mean seriously, you're letting Nick Cannon "oversee" your album?? Good luck with that Cory.
What's the possibilty that Cory doesn't think he can live up to expectations and is doing this to purposely sabotage his own career??
5) ESPN's Erin Andrews To Sue Over Nude Video
What?!? There's a nude video of Erin Andrews out there somewhere??? Aww man, if you got it you need to slide that over to ya boy! Erin Andrews can get it!

Dictator Goodell & The No Fun League Stikes Again!
Man y'all see this shit about 5 Atlanta Falcons players getting fined a total of $47,500 for supporting Mike Vick?? Damn, no offense to white people, but white people are taking this whole doggy love shit to a different level it never needs to go to. I mean besides the fact that this happened LAST week, why fine them?? You can't support your damn teammate??
At the end of the day this is chump change to them so it doesn't really matter financially, but its a damn shame they are raging this kind of war against anything Mike Vick. Sad. [FULL STORY]
