Thursday Billboard Update - 2/25/10

Sade
Sade's Soldier Of Love moves another 190,500 and hold on to her #1 for a 2nd week. Nothing else really interesting happened in the top here so lets move on to the Hot 100.

The Black Eyed Peas' Imma Be does this week what I thought it'd do last week, and that's take over the #1 spot from Ke$ha's TiK ToK. Jumping into the top 10 at #10 is Trey Songz's Say Aah. I could be wrong (though I'm probably not), but this is Trey's first trip into the top 10 as the lead on a song. Congrats.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Sade - Soldier Of Love (1-1)
2. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now (2-2)
3. Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D. (8-3)
4. Lady Gaga - The Fame (7-4)
5. Lil Wayne - Rebirth (4-5)
6. Susan Boyle - I Dreamed A Dream (9-6)
7. Alicia Keys - The Element Of Freedom (12-7)
8. Jaheim - Another Round (3-8)
9. Josh Turner - Haywire (5-9)
10. Taylor Swift - Fearless (7-10)
  • Freeway and Jake One's Stimulus Package debuts at #63 with 9,100 sold. Not only did I not know this came out, I didn't even know it was an album. I thought the shit was a mixtape. Oh well.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be (3-1)
2. Ke$ha - TiK ToK (1-2)
3. Young Money - Bedrock (4-3)
4. Lady GaGa - Bad Romance (5-4)
5. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now (6-5)
6. Artists For Haiti - We Are The World 25 (2-6)
7. Train - Hey, Soul Sister (7-7)
8. Ludacris - How Low (8-8)
9. Jason Derulo - In My Head (9-9)
10. Trey Songz - Say Aah (12-10)
  • B.o.B's Nothin' On You is on a BEP-esque pace as it jumps another 17 spots 38-21. In 2 more week this track could be well into the top 10. This good news doesn't come without reward as his debut album has been pushed up to an April 27th release date.
  • With the success of the video, Rihanna's Rude Boy soars 41 spots 61-23 in its 2nd week.
  • Jay-Z's On To The Next On jumps 10 spots 51-41.
  • Usher's Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home) is up 9 spaces 56-47 this week. (Side note: How out of place is Plies on this record?? He totally fucks up the tempo of the song with his raspy ass aggressive verse. Who is working at Usher's label that let this bullshit fly?? Sad, sad, sad.)
  • DJ Khaled's All I Do Is Win featuring Ross, Snoop, T-Pain, & Luda debuting at #64 and has already seen more success than his first single Fed Up.
  • Usher's There Goes My Baby comes in at #71 this week. Watch out for this record.
  • Coming in dead last is Mariah Carey's Up Out My Face with Nicki Minaj at #100.

Baby Making Season Approaches...

Thicke
Not all this will be baby making R&B, but I just felt like posting some new R&B so lets go!

What they know about my dude Thicke?! This shit is HOT! The beat was probably just a little too loud in this version, but I still love it anyway. Its just about pregnancy season so hopefully there's a full-length album coming to go with this track. I think I'm gonna have to go find my Evolution Of Robin Thicke CD to jam on the way to work today.

Damn I love these soul singers from the UK! Amy, Adele, Joss, Duffy, these girls are BAD! Young black girls trying to be R&B singers you are all on notice, step your game up! These UK chicks are bringing more soul to the table and we invented this shit.

Anyway, this song is stupid hot! How hot, you may be asking? So hot that I wouldn't even mind if Nas' verse was left off! Now that's hot!

The skycap concept was a bit of a stretch, but I love the vibe of this song. This might be a monster once it gets mixed down and everything. Timbo could've not said anything on the track, but I didn't mind it that much so its all good.

So there is still a real artist inside of R. Kelly somewhere. Hearing Kellz making a joint like this is refreshing because I was getting tired of him riding T-Pain and The-Dream's coattail like he wasn't that nigga in the R&B for a solid decade. Its not quite Chocolate Factory shit yet, but he's getting warmer. We really need him to get back in the studio and finish that song Baby Girl with Pharrell if he hasn't already!

Another song about Rihanna?? He only about 3 or 4 leaked songs into a comeback and half them shits either been about Rihanna or can be interpreted to be about Rihanna. I think he might be in the "Puff Daddy after he loss J. Lo" zone right now so maybe we should just prepare ourselves for more songs of this ilk.

Whatever, this nigga still has a terrible singing voice to me either.

Now I very well could've heard it wrong, but a little after 2 minutes in, did T-Pain say he was in booty dance contests in 1994 and the crowd cheered him on??

Here's the lyric:

"I wish, we could go, back to 1994! With the booty dance-offs, all on the boulevard. And they be like, 'Go T-Pain, do your G thang'..."

Again, I could be totally wrong, but that sounds like what he said to me lol.

Nigga this shit is terrible lol. Hoodies were hot in like were 2006-2007, its 2009 and damn near 2010! Its too soon to try to bring them back. Making this wack ass song ain't gonna help the cause either lol.

Thursday Billboard Update - 10/8/09

Barbara
In an upset of epic portions, Mariah Carey's Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel not only doesn't get the #1 spot, but it doesn't even get the #2 either. Mariah's new shit starts off at #3 with a shocking 168,900 first week! Just last year her E=MC² did 463,000 in its 1st week. That's an substantial drop off for 1 year. I hate to say it, but this is what she gets for letting Gucci Mane hop on her track lol. By the way, Barbara Streisand (180,000) and Paramore (175,000) started out at #1 and #2 respectively.

In other top 10 news, Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 JUST missed the platinum barrier by less than 4,000 albums after selling 88,600 this week. One more week won't hurt.

In another bit of an upset, Jay Sean and his single Down finally knock the Black Eyed Peas out of the #1 spot on the Hot 100. BEP held down the top place for a record breaking 26 weeks with Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Barbara Streisand - Love Is The Answer (1)
2. Paramore - Brand New Eyes (2)
3. Mariah Carey - Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel (3)
4. Breaking Benjamin - Dear Agony (4)
5. Alice In Chains - Black Gives Way To Blue (5)
6. Jay-Z - Blueprint 3 (2-6)
7. Madonna - Celebration (7)
8. Miranda Lambert - Revolution (8)
9. Selena Gomez & The Scene - Kiss & Tell (9)
10. Pearl Jam - Backspacer (1-10)
  • Ghostface Killah's Wizard Of Poetry opens at #28 with 19,200 sold.
  • Marques Houston's Mr. Houston (which should've been called Mr. Marques) lands at #65 with just 9,000 records sold.
  • Playaz Circle's Flight 360: The Takeoff doesn't really take off coming in at #74 with 8,000.
  • Skyzoo's first album Salvation debuts at #126 with 4,600 sold.
  • Mack 10's Soft White (which I had no idea dropped) starts at #141 with just 3,900 sold.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Jay Sean - Down (2-1)
2. Miley Cyrus - Party In The U.S.A. (3-2)
3. Jay-Z - Run This Town (4-3)
4. Jason Rulo - Whatcha Say (5-4)
5. Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (1-5)
6. Lady GaGa - Paparazzi (7-6)
7. Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me (6-7)
8. Mariah Carey - Obsessed (9-8)
9. Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody (8-9)
10. Jay-Z - Empire State Of Mind (10-10)
  • Meet Me Halfway moved a bit too slow to be the 3rd link in the Black Eyed Peas' #1 spot chain, but it still jumped 15 spots 47-32.
  • Mariah Carey's I Want To Know What Love Is also sees a 15 spot jump as it moves 75-60 this week.

Thursday Billboard Update - 10/1/09

Pearl Jam
Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 loses ground at the top and falls to #2 with 134,100 sold. Drake's So Far Gone EP hangs into the top 10, falling to #9 with 36,100 in its 2nd week.

Only one new entry in the top 10 this week, and its actually been here before. Mariah Carey's Obsessed is the song and it sees its way back into the top 10 at #9. I can see it landing as high as #4 next week with her new album dropping this past Tuesday and all.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Pearl Jam - Backspacer (1)
2. Jay-Z - Blueprint 3 (1-2)
3. Three Days Grace - Life Starts Now (3)
4. Whitney Houston - I Look To You (2-4)
5. Miley Cyrus - The Time Of Our Lives (5-5)
6. Brand New - Daisy (6)
7. Five Finger Death Punch - War Is The Answer (7)
8. Harry Connick Jr. - Your Songs (8)
9. Drake - So Far Gone EP (6-9)
10. Muse - The Resistance (3-10)
  • Sean Kingston's Tomorrow comes in at #37 with a raggedy little 12,600 first week. That's just sad.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (1-1)
2. Jay Sean - Down (3-2)
3. Miley Cyrus - Party In The U.S.A. (6-3)
4. Jay-Z - Run This Town (2-4)
5. Jason Rulo - Whatcha Say (10-5)
6. Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me (4-6)
7. Lady GaGa - Paparazzi (7-7)
8. Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody (9-8)
9. Mariah Carey - Obsessed (11-9)
10. Jay-Z - Empire State Of Mind (5-10)
  • I usually don't have country artists, but Carrie Underwood's Cowboy Casanova soared 85 spots 96-11 this week and I thought she needed to be acknowledged.
  • After debuting at #75 last week, Black Eyed Peas' Meet Me Halfway jumps to #47 this week.
  • Ester Dean's Drop It Low with Chris Brown jumps 14 spots 63-49. Will Ester Dean usher Chris Brown back into the game??
  • Homewrecker Alicia Keys sees her new single Doesn't Mean Anything debut at #61 this week. I guess the title is what A. Keys responded when asked "You know Swizz Beatz is married, right??" lol.
  • Sean Kingston's Face Drop debuts at #70.
  • Maxwell's jam Bad Habits finally debuts this week at #96.

This Week In Flops 9/29/09

Before I get into the album sales shit I just wanted to acknowledge how hot this Mariah album cover is! What's better than 2 perfectly shaped titties?? SIX perfectly shaped titties! Powerful, extremely powerful.

Anyway, MC is looking for another #1 and there's no doubt in my mind she's gonna get it. 1) She's going up against basically nobody and 2) her album is dropping a decent amount of weeks after Blueprint 3. Now the only thing left to be determined is how much this new album is gonna sell as it grabs that top spot. I don't think its gonna do more than E=MC²'s first week numbers (463,000), but its Mariah so I'm sure it won't be too far off. I'm going with 350-425k.

After Mariah its really a crap shot for the rest, but lets try to sort things out anyway.

Its hard to figure out the market on albums like this. You know, the ones you only really know are coming about a month in advance and don't have first singles. I'm really taking a wild stab in the dark here and saying this off the strength of Raekwon selling 68,000 the other week, but I'm gonna rock with 30-50k.

If you knew Marques Houston was dropping an album, please raise your hand. I bet some of y'all are lying y'all ass off because for me, this shit is coming out of nowhere. I don't really remember hearing about a single or anything. Oh well, I'm gonna say Mr. Houston still has a bit of a fanbase and sales somewhere between 15-35k.

(Side note: Instead of calling the album Mr. Houston, why not call it Mr. Marques?? You know like a play on the pornstar Mr. Marcus. I think that would've been pretty gangsta. Slighty homo, but hell, he ain't doing the album for me, its for the ladies.)

This album has been floating around for a little while now. I'm not sure how much traction its gained, but I know Warren is going out on store soon so hopefully all the attendees will cop the album. I'm guessing 10-25k.

Man, talk about no label support! This project has a good chance to do New Boyz numbers. Hell, maybe less! I'm gonna go with 6-15k and an independent label deal after this.

Last, but not least, is Skyzoo's debut album The Salvation. Dude is nice, but at the end of the day he's on an independent. I'll give him 5-15k to be safe, but I hope he can reach 20.

Thursday Billboard Update - 9/24/09

BP3
Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 hangs on to his #1 spot with 297,913 copies sold in its 2nd week on shelves. He should be getting his platinum plaque in 2 weeks. Whitney's comeback album I Look To You bounces back to #2 this week and also goes gold with 155,600 in its 3rd week. KiD CuDi's debut album Man On The Moon shits on my prediction and sells 104,300 while coming in at #4. Drake's So Far Gone EP goes just over what I predicted and does 73,600 at #6. If he can do that with an EP filled with songs he gave out for free just months ago, imagine what Thank Me Later is gonna do. Right behind Drake is Lil Boosie at #7 as his Superbad sells 48,900. This is Boosie's first top 10 of his career.

A lot of action going on on the Hot 100 this week. Jay-Z and Drake dominate this week in a major way. Jay's Run This Town with Kanye West and Rihanna shows no signs of slowing down as it moves to a new high at #2. At #5 is Empire State Of Mind with Alicia Keys which sold 205,000 in digital downloads over the past week (shout out to Lil Mama lol). Drake makes his first dent with Forever featuring Kanye, Lil Wayne, and Eminem starting out at #8.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Jay-Z - Blueprint 3 (1-1)
2. Whitney Houston - I Look To You (3-2)
3. Muse - The Resistance (3)
4. KiD CuDi - Man On The Moon: The End Of Days (4)
5. Miley Cyrus - The Time Of Our Lives (2-5)
6. Drake - So Far Gone EP (6)
7. Lil Boosie - Superbad: The Return Of Boosie Bad Azz (7)
8. Taylor Swift - Fearless (10-8)
9. Kings of Leon - Only By The Night (7-9)
10. Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D. (7-10)
  • Trick Daddy's Finally Famous checks in at #34 with 13,300 sold. I'm not sure what label he's on right now but we need to get him on a real label that will actually attempt to promote his project.
  • The New Boyz's debut Skinny Jeanz & A Mic (which I didn't even know came out) comes in at #56 with a pathetic 9,800 records sold. Its a wrap for these niggas.
  • KRS-One and Buckshot's album dropped last today also and it opens up at #62 with 8,600 sold.
  • Q-Tip's Kamaal The Abstract (had no idea this existed) starts at #77 with 6,500 sold.
The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (1-1)
2. Jay-Z - Run This Town (4-2)
3. Jay Sean - Down (2-3)
4. Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me (6-4)
5. Jay-Z - Empire State Of Mind (50-5)
6. Miley Cyrus - Party In The U.S.A. (3-6)
7. Lady GaGa - Paparazzi (18-7)
8. Drake - Forever (8)
9. Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody (5-9)
10. Jason Rulo - Whatcha Say (7-10)
  • Drake's Successful with Trey Songz see's a sizeable jump for the 1st time in a few week as it goes 48-17 this past week.
  • Beyonce's Sweet Dreams is up 15 spots 33-18.
  • Drake has another new debut this week with I'm Going In featuring Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy at #40. I could've sworn this was Jeezy's song since it was on his Trappin' Ain't Dead mixtape but whatever.
  • Jay-Z's Young Forever debuted at #75 last week and then proceeded to soar 34 spots to #41 this week.
  • Leona Lewis is back on the charts this week as Happy debuts at #50.
  • KiD CuDi joins the action at #59 with Pursuit Of Happiness (Nightmare).
  • LMFAO's La La La debuts at #61. That girl with the piercing in her chest from Real World Cancun is in the video if you didn't know.
  • New artist Ester Dean takes her track Drop It Low with Chris brown 31 spots north to #63 this week.
  • Mariah Carey's I Want To Know What Love Is comes in at #66. I wonder how Nick Cannon feels about this song??
  • The Black Eyed Peas' Meet Me Halfway debuts at #75.

Eminem - The Warning (feat. Mariah Carey)

The Warning
Slim Shady is back!

Now is the real Slim Shady back or what?? If Relapse 2 sounds anything like that, I'm gonna put my $9.99 to the side now. Sick beat by Dre, murderous lyrics, incredible flow. Just so much Ether! I mean shit! I didn't even think Em could get down like that anymore (neither did Rick Ross who has GOT to be somewhere thanking the Lord this wasn't targeted at him).

I just wanna take some time out now to thank both Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon for inspiring to pen some one of his most damning diss records to date. You are both my heroes!

Maxwell's BLACKsummers'night had a big opening week over on the Billboard 200, selling over 316,000 records, but I'm still boycotting that chart as long as Michael Jackson continues to outsell everybody on it and still be kept off. Mariah Carey - Obsessed

This is most likely the first single off of Mariah's new album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel BUT what everybody wants to know is, is this song about Eminem?? Uhh DUH! Band, play the music!

Oh snap! In yo' face Eminem! lol. Seriously though, do we really need to speculate who this is about?? I mean of course The-Dream wrote it and not Mariah, but how could this NOT be about Em?? Dream knows exactly what's going on with the whole Em/Mariah/Nick Cannon thing so he wrote this song, sent it to Mariah, and they laid it down. End of story.

Now, of course in a few days either Mariah, Dream, Tricky Stewart, or a rep will come out and say this song was recorded long before the whole Nick/Eminem thing happened but I mean yeah fuckin' right!

Oh, and I don't usually like Mariah's music, but I think this shit is kinda tight.

Eminem Freestyle With Tim Westwood

Ripped it...but what else did you expect?? I'm just praying we don't hear this verse on Relapse 2. You never know these days and every rapper is a suspect.

Anyway, if you're wondering what Eminem has to say about the situation with Nick Cannon, your answer is after the jump.

STFU Award: Nick Cannon

By now I'm sure you've all either heard about or read the Nick Cannon essay blog where he's going at Eminem for talking about Mariah and himself on Bagpipes From Baghdad (I'm not gonna re-post it, you can click here if you wanna read it). Though I agree with Nick in principal (can't get too mad at a man for defending his wife), I'm gonna have to say this: STOP IT! Nigga, your wife is MARIAH CAREY, people are gonna always talk about her crazy ass. Are you gonna throw a hissy fit and threaten people every time someone says something about her?? Again, she's Mariah Carey! I fucking' HATE when people act like nobody should talk about someone that's a freakin' international celebrity. Nick, like you said, she's been famous for like 20 years now, people are gonna talk about her, get over it. On another note, I'd hate to have seen what Nick would've done if he was married to her back when "Glitter" came out lol.

The other thing I had a HUGE problem with was Nick making it seem like Em was attacking black women by going at Mariah. Nick, again, STOP IT! Most people didn't even know she was half black until you mentioned it. Mariah does not, and has not identified with black people at any point in her career. I dare somebody to give me one example where Mariah took a stand for a black issue. I'll help you out: There aren't any! In fact, the only time Mariah even associates with black people is when she needs a hit. Yeah she'll go get Diddy or JD or Bone Thugs or Boyz II Men when its time to make a hit, but when its time to shoot the video its ALWAYS a white guy playing her love interest. ALWAYS! So Nick, don't give us this bullshit and try to play the race card. Just don't!

This part really pissed me off. I just hate when people wanna be white except for when being black is more convenient. Like Paul Mooney says, "Everybody wanna be a nigga, but don't nobody wanna be a nigga." STFU Nick Cannon.

The-Dream - Rockin' That Thang (Remix)/My Love Videos

I guess Fabolous and Juelz are gonna try to bring headbands back, huh? Nothing wrong with that I suppose. Anyway, I like this video! The video was like 80x better than the song because none of the rappers really brought anything special. I love the magazine concept though.

My Love with Mariah Carey is after the jump.

I was never feeling this song so I didn't even bother watching the video lol. Well anyway his album is in stores tomorrow.

MuZik!! The-Dream & Mariah, Ross, Bun-B, Sticky Fingaz, & Skyzoo!

The-Dream Feat. Mariah - My Love

This is okay, nothing special. More music after the jump.

Skyzoo - On Fire

Not bad from the newbie.

Redd Eyezz Feat. Rick Ross & Bun-B - Dope Boys Dream

Pretty dope track, its a shame Ross and Bun basically mailed it in on Redd and ain't give a real effort.

Sticky Fingaz - No Swagger

Sticky kinda sounds like a bitter old rapper here, but the lyrics are nice. The beat is questionable though...which makes me wonder how bad Will from Real World Hollywood's beat were if Sticky turned him down and is rapping over shit like this lol.

Busta Rhymes - Packin' Them Things

"It sounds like the organs from Fat Albert nigga!" You'll get it when you hear the track lol.

Busta Rhymes - Packin' Them Things

Damn, when is Busta dropping??? Nigga should've stayed with J Records because this is the 2nd time Interscope has continued to push homie's album back. Well either way I like how he gave Joey a shout for that line on Who about him putting in all this work and still not being mentioned with the G.O.A.T.'s in the game.

Aight well here's a little bonus that I really didn't know what to do with lol. Its a remix to a Mariah track called Side Effects.
