Random News Shit: NBA Headlines Edition

Dallas Mavericks Dirk Nowitzki of Germany answers a question during a news conference for the NBA Finals basketball series against the Miami Heat in Dallas, Texas June 6, 2011.
1) Dirk Nowitzki Calls Out Jason Terry
In all honestly, this really isn't a big deal, but for the simple fact that if LeBron had said this ESPN would've interrupted whatever it was showing to do a special report, I'm posting it. Here's the quote: "They keep sticking him [LeBron] on Jet in the fourth quarters and he's been doing a good job... Jet hasn't really been a crunch-time, clutch player for us the way we need him to."

Snap!

2) DeShawn Stevenson Calls LeBron & Wade "Actors"
This nigga REALLY almost got the STFU Award, but then I remembered it was just DeShawn Stevenson. And if anybody would know who was acting out there, it'd be DeShawn because he has great front row seats after his struggle minutes in the first quarters of games. Of course, if I was on a team shooting jump shots and getting to the foul line nearly double as many times as my opponents that's constantly driving to the basket, I'd shut the fuck up. But then again, I wouldn't have gotten a $5 bill tattooed across my throat, so what do I know?

3) Mark Jackson To Coach The Warriors
Good for Mark, but I sure will miss the Breen-Jackson-Van Gundy 3-man booth ABC and ESPN deployed for big games.

Welp, look on the bright side, if the Warriors continue playing like the Warriors we'll have the band back together in no time.

Random News Shit: SportsCenter Edition

Serena Williams of US holds the Wimbledon Trophy after defeating Vera Zvonareva of Russia 6-3, 6-2, in the Women's Final at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships at the All England Tennis Club, in south-west London, on July 3, 2010.
1) Serena Wins 4th Wimbledon, 13th Grand Slam
No shocker here as Serena beats Russian Vera Zvonareva in straight sets 6-3,6-2. This 13th Grand Slam breaks Serena's tie with Billie Jean King, and moves her up to 6th place all-time. The all-time Grand Slam leader, Margaret Court, has 24.

2) Brock Lesnar Retains UFC Title
Man, I thought Brock was done after that first round, but he fought back and got the win by submission. That was simply amazing! This is no breaking news, but Lesnar is one tough S.O.B.

3) Phil Jackson Will Return To Lakers
Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers both clearly flunked out of the "Brett Favre School of Delayed Decisions." I mean, who do they think they are informing their teams on what they plan to do in a timely manner?? It's sickening! lol.

4) Dirk, Mavs Agree On 4-Year, $80 Million Deal
Dirk could've got much more had he decided to take one of the max contracts he probably could've gotten from one of the teams with crazy cap space. Instead, he takes $80 million to stay with Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks. I guess he's more interested in loyalty than winning. At age 32, it's hard to see Dirk as the best player on a championship team.

5) Paul Pierce Stays With Celtics For 4-Years, $61 Million
Well that's a fair number. I doubt Pierce ever had any intention on leaving Boston, so I'm glad that got this deal done quickly.

6) Kobayashi May Not Compete In Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest
The former champ from Japan still has no contract in place, and it's looking more and more likely he won't compete in the annual 4th of July contest. This smells like a Mayweather/Pacquiao
situation to me and Kobayashi is scared to go head-to-head with Joey Chestnut. Oh well, we shall soon see.

7) Rudy Gay Gets 5-Years, $80 Million To Stay In Memphis
I don't know why, but that the just seems like too much for Rudy Gay. Nothing against Rudy, but $16 million a year for him?? Just seems odd.

Aight, let's go over some of the lesser free agents who've signed deals:

Steve Blake Joins Lakers for 4-Year, $16M deal
That is a very fair deal. Looks like we may have seen the last of Derek Fisher in a Lakers uniform.

Wolves Sign Darko Milicic to 4-Year, $20M deal
And it's deals like this that let's you know Minnesota won't be shit for years and years to come. Well it sure is a good thing they didn't get that GM job to an inexperienced guy like Bill Simmons, David Kahn is doing a much better job.

Suns, Hakim Warrick Agree to 4-Year, $18M deal
This is the deal that makes it look unlikely Amare will return to Phoenix

Random News Shit: NBA Free Agency Edition Pt. 1

Nets billboard
1) LeBron To Meet With Knicks Thursday
Wait a second, so the aren't even flying LeBron out to New York, they're going to meet in Cleveland?? Man, I thought they didn't stand a chance before, now they're totally out of it. The only thing the Knicks can do at this point is show LeBron the "Cleveland, At Least We're Not Detroit" video on a continuous loop.

This is just a formality, LeBron is NOT going to the Knicks.

2) Nets Try To Woo Free Agents With Jay-Z/Prokhorov Billboard
My main question about that billboard is do you think jay-Z had any say on whether his image with on it?? I doubt it. New Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov would've sent some Russian mobsters down to Brooklyn to tune Hov and the Roc Nation up if he didn't agree. And that's suggesting he even bothered asking Jay-Z's permission, he could've just said fuck it and did it.

Whatever, the Nets aren't get anybody anyway. Maybe an Amare or Boozer, but none of the big three.

3) Dirk Nowitzki Opts Out Of Mavs Contract
This is intriguing, but I don't think Dirk wants to leave Mark Cuban. It's sad too because Dallas is never going to win with Dirk as their best player. It's just not gonna happen. He's best off in a situation like playing with Wade in Miami or with LeBron in Cleveland...or maybe Chicago?? I'd love to have Dirk in Miami, but like Bill Simmons said yesterday on ESPN's free agency summit, the city of Dallas would kill themselves if Dirk left them for the team that beat them in the Finals in '06. I think Dirk either goes to Chicago, or stays in Dallas.

4) Paul Pierce Plans To Opt Out
Oh stop it Paul, we all know you aren't going anywhere.

5) Amare Testing Free Agency
I can't wait to see who gives Amare Stoudemire a max contract so he can give you 15 and 8 next year. Yeah, he averaged 23 and 9 in 09-10, but that was when he played with Steve Nash. If he goes to New York or Miami he'll be asked to create his own shots. That's right, now more super easy baskets in the paint off perfect passes from Nash. Amare needs Nash more than Nash needs Amare.

My gut feeling is that he'll end up playing for the Knicks because after they get burned by all of the big three they'll have to bring in something so the city doesn't take to the streets to riot.

6) Richard Jefferson Gives Up $15 Million To Opt Out
I thought Richard Jefferson was an idiot when he dumped his fine ass fiance last summer, but that doesn't have SHIT on this. By optioning out of the final year of his contract with the Spurs, he's agreeing to give up the $15 million he's due to make next season for a chance to make less than half of that somewhere else. Did he not see himself play last year?? Talk about Idiocrary 101.

7) Allen Iverson Will Try To Comeback Next Season
I love A.I., but it's time to give it up. He doesn't want to be a role player, so what's the point?? I could see if his goal was to win a championship, but his goal is to start. He totally has the wrong mindset to contribute on a winner at this point in his career.

8) Doc Rivers To Remain Coach Of Celtics

Good for Doc. That is all.

9) Cavs In Negotiations With Byron Scott To Coach
Smart move on the Cavs behalf, Scott is a very good coach and he won't just be a suit like Mike Brown was.

Dirk Rocks The Golden Locks

Look at those luscious locks son! Dirk is gonna have a hard time keeping the fellas away with this new hair. Wait, what's that? Dirk isn't gay?? Yeah right, no straight guy is gonna put blonde highlights in his fuckin' hair, he clearly turned homo in the offseason. What? I'm wrong??? Hey, fuck you!

Thank you, I'll be here I'll night lol. You can take a few more looks at the golden locks after the jump!

German basketball player Dirk Nowitzki, a NBA player for the Dallas Mavericks, is seen during a press conference in Frankfurt, central Germany, Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Nowitzki appeared for the first time in public in the aftermath of his broken engagement to former fiancee Cristal Taylor.

Random News Shit: SportsCenter Edition

1) All-NBA First Team Announced
LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, and Dirk Nowitzki are your All-NBA First Teamers. Question: How is LeBron the only unanimous selection?? Not saying he shouldn't be (he definitely should), but how don't Wade or Kobe get it too?? Who is voting for these things?? We need to get me a vote in this shit for next year lol.

2) Taylor Returns To The Dolphins
Jason Taylor is returning home to South Beach for a reported $1.1 million for the 2009 season. This automatically gives them a scapegoat for inevitably going no better than 8-8 this season. Then they can dump him and be ready to compete again when they don't have the hardest schedule in the league in the 2010 season lol.

3) New Stadium to be Called 'Cowboys Stadium'
Well I don't love it, but whatever, they're still gonna lose the home opener against the Giants Week 2.

4) Shaq Pop Lockin'
This obviously isn't news, but Shap dancing is always hilarious lol.

All-Star Reserves Announced; Melo, Jefferson Snubbed

Shaqavich
Hit continue to unveil who else made the team.

EAST:
Player (Team) Position

Chris Bosh (Raptors) F/C

Danny Granger (Pacers) F

Devin Harris (Nets) G

Joe Johnson (Hawks) G

Rashard Lewis (Magic) F

Jameer Nelson (Magic) G

Paul Pierce (Celtics) F

WEST:
Player (Team) Position

Chauncey Billups (Nuggets) G

Pau Gasol (Lakers) F

Dirk Nowitzki (Mavericks) F

Shaquille O'Neal (Suns) C

Tony Parker (Spurs) G

Brandon Roy (Trail Blazers) G

David West (Hornets) F

Damn, Carmelo Anthony didn't make the team?? He went from being a possibly starter to not making the team all together. Sucks because he and David West had pretty similar stats...only he would still be good without his point guard. If you take away Chris Paul, West is average at best.

I can't think if any Eastern conference stubs, but 2 others in the West are Al Jefferson and Kevin Durant. Al Jefferson had better stats than both Melo and D. West and Durant has really stepped it up this year, but both play on dreadful teams. Then again, so does Danny Granger and he made it averaging a single point more than KD.

Dick Vitale To Call 1st NBA Game Since 1984 Tonight!

Yes, yes, y'all! Tonight's Heat/Nuggets game (9pm ET) will be called by none other than Dicky V himself, Dick Vitale! He hasn't called an NBA game since May 17, 1984! I can't wait.

Check out this video where ESPN actually shows old footage of the last NBA game Vitale called:

That's classic! How about that Milwaukee Bucks' logo! How wack was that shit?? Can't forget Greg Gumbel's sick 80s 'fro. That shit looks prime for a late-80s jheri curling lol.

Anyway, besides Dicky V and Dan Shulman calling the Heat/Nugget game at 9, ESPN's regular broadcast team of Mike Tirico, Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy, will be calling the Davidson/Duke game at 7. This shit be a good night of Hoops! I hope Stephen Curry drops 40. Its a shame Carmelo won't be playing tonight too.
