Thursday Billboard Update - 2/11/10

Lady Antebellum
Last week's #1, Lady Antebellum Need You Now, remains on top, but debuting at #2 is Lil Wayne's Rebirth. His abomination to Rock sold 176,000 in its first week. (Finally a semi-smart marketing move by Cash Money! I forgot he was even "going to jail" this week, and that's they dropped this piece of shit when they did. And now that he doesn't actually have to go to jail until NEXT month, I say it was a pretty nice bait and switch by the new Bad Boy. Take that, take that!)

Black Eyed Peas' Imma Bee doesn't make it to #1 this week, but its Grammy push was good enough for #2. They also brought I Gotta Feeling back into the top 10 at #9, bumping Rihanna's Hard back outside.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now (1-1)
2. Lil Wayne - Rebirth (2)
3. Nick Jonas & the Administration - Who I Am (3)
4. Lady Gaga - The Fame (3-4)
5. Various Artists - 2010 Grammy Nominees (8-5)
6. Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D. (10-6)
7. Taylor Swift - Fearless (13-7)
8. Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe 2 (8)
9. Susan Boyle - I Dreamed A Dream (4-9)
10. Zac Brown Band - The Foundation (22-10)

The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Ke$ha - TiK ToK (1-1)
2. Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be (4-2)
3. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now (8-3)
4. Young Money - Bedrock (3-4)
5. Lady GaGa - Bad Romance (2-5)
6. David Guetta - Sexy Chick (5-6)
7. Train - Hey, Soul Sister (9-7)
8. Ludacris - How Low (6-8)
9. Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (16-9)
10. Iyaz - Replay (7-10)
  • I guess people were really feeling her performance at the Grammys because Pink's Glitter In The Air debuts at #18.
  • Timbaland and Drake's Say Something moves another 10 spaces north 46-36 this week.
  • Lil Wayne's Knockout, off of the abomination known as Rebirth, debuts at #44.
  • B.o.B's first single sees some movement in its 2nd week as Nothin' On You jumps 24 spots 89-65. B.o.B Presents The Adventures Of Bobby Ray is due May 25th.
  • People must've loved this Grammy performance as well because Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli's Bridge Over Troubled Water checks in at #75.
  • Lil Wayne sees another Rebirth track debut this week as Fuck Today with Gudda Gudda debuts at #76.
  • One more Wayne debuts at #91 with American Star featuring Shanell. There's NO doubt in my mind this is because everyone thought he was going to jail this week and NOT because they want to play the music.
  • Some song called Lemonade by Gucci Mane comes in at #93 in its 1st week.

They Reminisce Over Ye

The guys from ItsTheReal.com took my lead and took a bit of a break, but they are back strong (as am I). This is an instant classic and I feel the expect same way! I would have paid to see Kanye just come out at some point during the Grammys. So what you will, but every year Kanye performs, he has the night's best performance. Feel how you want, but Yeezy is that nigga!

This is all probably good thing because Kanye is going back home to Hip-Hop and you know he's coming with some shit! I can't fuckin' wait!

The Winners & Losers Of Super Bowl XLIV

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton applauds as quarterback Drew Brees holds up the Vince Lombardi trophy after defeating the Indianapolis Colts to win the NFL's Super Bowl XLIV football game in Miami, Florida February 7, 2010.
First off, congratulations to the New Orleans Saints. You won your first Super Bowl, but don't forget who 's better than you. (Week 15 highlights anyone??)

Anyway, I wanted to try something new, and I really liked the "winners/losers" thing Bill Simmons did in a column a few weeks back, so I stole it. Welp, here it is, the winners and losers of Super Bowl XLIV!

Winners: The Boost Mobile shuffle; the little black kid from the Doritos commercial; Joseph Addai; auto-tune, David Letterman, Oprah, and Jay Leno; casual Fridays; men without pants; Brett Favre in 2020, Warren Sapp jokes; little people (KISS commercial, Troy Polamalu commercial); Nickelodeon (they were showing "Malcolm In The Middle" during halftime and gave me something to watch); onside kicks; Sean Payton's balls; Garrett Hartly; eTrade babies; Tracy Porter; the Saints; the city of New Orleans.

Losers: People who came to Miami for Super Bowl weekend, but didn't have tickets to the game; Queen Latifah's singing performance; Emmitt Smith's coin toss; all Doritos commercial NOT starring that little black kid; Cars.com (Shouldn't Timothy Richman's infinite knowledge afford him whatever car he wants??); Kim Kardashian camera shots; the Super Bowl halftime show; the referee trying to explain why the 2-point conversion was good; Charles Barkley's rap skills;
GoDaddy.com; anyone who only watched to see the commercials; Peyton Manning's legacy; Reggie Wayne; Haiti; running plays on 3rd down with about a minute left in the game when down 14; the Gatorade shower; the Miami Dolphins (they picked Dante Colpepper over Drew Brees a few years back); giving up on 16-0; resting starters; the Colts.

Have any to add?? Leave them in the comments!

(Side note: Special thanks to Adam Carolla for practically forcing me to pick the Saints.)

NFL Winners & Losers: Super Bowl XLIV

Super Bowl XLIV
Colts (16-2) vs. Saints (15-3)
Colts, Saints. Saints, Colts. Which way is the right way to go?? I don't know. And guess what?? I don't care. That's right, I said it, I don't care! Am I gonna watch the game?? Of course, but do I care who wins?? Not in the least bit.

Yes, that may sound like blasphemy to people who know me as a diehard football fan, but that's seriously how I feel about this year's game. Not only do I not have a dog in this race, but for me, this game suffers mightily from Venus-Serena disease.

If you're not familiar with the term, its when 2 likable entities are forced to play each other, but its so hard to choose between the 2 that you end up not caring who wins. Its like, you're happy for both, but it doesn't feel right rooting against either, so you don't root at all. That's never any good in sports. At all times we need a hero and a villain, a good guy and a bad guy. Super Bowl XLIV is deprived of this dynamic, and that's why I'm definitely not that psyched to watch.

At the end of the day, here's the deal: Do I really want to root against Peyton Manning?? The guy is one of, if not the most, likable people in sports today. On the other hand, do I want to cheer that the city of New Orleans is dealt another L?? All they've ever done was lose, so it'd be nice to see them get one.

I'm stuck! I can feel my interest level continuously dropping as we speak.

Screw it, I'm gonna take the Saints to win. Do I feel strongly about it?? No. Do I even have any real reasoning as to why I think they're going to win?? No. I'm gonna keep it funky with you, the main factor in my decision to go with the Saints is the fact that Adam Carolla bet on the Colts. If you're a fan of either he or Bill Simmons, you know what terrible luck he has gambling, so it only make sense to go opposite the Ace man if you have no no other way to go. That's all I got got. Saints winners, Colts losers.

Playoffs Record: 5-6 (.455)
Regular Season Record: 167-88 (.655)

Random News Shit: Last Days Of The NFL Season Edition

MIAMI GARDENS, FL - FEBRUARY 02: Dwight Freeney #93 of the Indianapolis Colts speaks to members of the media during Super Bowl XLIV Media Day at Sun Life Stadium on February 2, 2010 in Miami Gardens, Florida.
1) Freeney Misses Final Colts' Practice, Wayne Back
All week everybody has been talking about Dwight Freeney and will he play, or won't he, and I have yet to hear anybody bring up DeMarcus Ware. What does D. Ware have to do with this game?? Sadly, nothing, well besides the fact that back in Week 15 he dominated the Saints offensive line while only playing 3rd downs and 6 days removed from a sprained neck.

Yeah, they are 2 totally different injuries, but if Ware can make an impact after being carted off on a stretcher 6 days earlier, I don't see why Freeney can't be effective in this game today, even if he's limited.

Now, as far as Reggie Wayne goes, its good for the Colts that they have him back out there. Without Reggie out there drawing so much attention, it'd be harder for the Austin Collies and Pierre Garcons of the world to get open.

2) Joey Porter Wants Out Of Miami
Well this sucks for the Dolphins. It also seems dumb to me. I don't even know what to say, but I'd love to have him in Dallas.

3) Warren Sapp Arrested & Charged With Domestic Battery
Super Bowl weekend in Miami just isn't the same without a few arrests. We all knew it was just a matter of time, but it finally happened. I thought it'd be an active player, but this is well enough.

Anyway, details are pretty sketchy still, but we do know this: Warren Sapp was arrested and charged with domestic battery for allegedly choking some lady out in his hotel room, and has since been released on $1,500 bond. Warren has also been removed from the NFL Network's coverage team until the investigation is over (aka he got fired and not only won't you see him on the panel today, but he won't be there next season either). Sucks for him, but he's got to be smarter than to put himself into these kinda situations.

4) Browns To Release Donte' Stallworth Upon Reinstatement
Speaking of having to be smarter than to put yourselves in these kinda situation (especially in Miami), Donte' Stallworth will be reinstated at some point today by Roger Goodell. When that happens, the Browns organization says he'll need to find a new team to call a disgrace to play for, because he's getting released!

Stallworth is still relatively young (29) so I also wouldn't mind having him in Dallas. Its not gonna happen, but I'd take him and his run-after-the-catch abilities over Roy Williams and his run-before-the-catch abilities.

5) Pat Bowlen Wants Brandon Marshall Back Next Season

Makes sense, he's a game-breaking receiver and is still only 25 years-old. Yeah, he can be a headache at times, but fuck it, you traded away his quarterback so deal with it.

6) Jerry Rice & Emmitt Smith Headline 7-Man Hall Of Fame Class
Here's the list: Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, G Russ Grimm, LB Rickey Jackson, CB Dick LeBeau, RB Floyd Little, and DT John Randle. Its about time they put Dick LeBeau through, ain't he about 84 now??

Thursday Billboard Update - 2/4/10

Lady Antebellum
Last week I warned to anticipate a huge week for the Hope For Haiti Now compilation album. This week that warning seems comical as the album only racks up 142,900, about 28,000 less than what we saw in its first 2 days of availability. I didn't anticipate the drop in coverage by the 24-hour news networks, and the lack of staying power of its 2 biggest tracks (Taylor Swift's Today Was A Fairytale fell 2-22 and Jay-Z, Bono, and Rihanna's Stranded fell 16-85). The big winner this week is Grammy award winning country group Lady Antebellum, whose Need You Now album moved 481,000 in its first week. Also debuting this week is Corinne Bailey Rae's The Sea at #7 with 53,400.

This got shaken up a bit this week on the Hot 100. The 2 tracks that debuted in the top 10 last week (Taylor Swift's Today Was A Fairy Tale at #2 and Justin Bieber's Baby at #5) fell out this week, and a former #1 (Jay-Z's Empire State Of Mind) did the same. Taking their spots are Black Eyed Peas' Imma Be finally breaking through at #4, Ludacris' How Low returning at #6, and Lady Antebellum's title track at #8. After their Grammy performance this past Sunday, don't be shocked if Imma Be takes over the top spot next week.

The Billboard 200 1-10
first week debuts in bold

1. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now (1)
2. Various Artists - Hope For Haiti Now (1-2)
3. Lady Gaga - The Fame (3-3)
4. Susan Boyle - I Dreamed A Dream (2-4)
5. Barry Manilow - The Greatest Love Songs of All Time (5)
6. Michael Jackson - This Is It sdtk (17-6)
7. Corinne Bailey Rae - The Sea (7)
8. Various Artists - 2010 Grammy Nominees (5-8)
9. Celtic Woman - Songs From The Heart (9)
10. Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D. (9-10)

The Billboard Hot 100 1-10
first time top 10's in bold

1. Ke$ha - TiK ToK (1-1)
2. Lady GaGa - Bad Romance (3-2)
3. Young Money - Bedrock (4-3)
4. Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be (11-4)
5. David Guetta - Sexy Chick (7-5)
6. Ludacris - How Low (12-6)
7. Iyaz - Replay (6-7)
8. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now (18-8)
9. Train - Hey, Soul Sister (10-9)
10. Rihanna - Hard (9-10)
  • Timbaland's Carry Out featuring Justin Timberlake moved just 3 spots this week, but at #11, is primed for a top 10 appearance next week.
  • Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris' Hallelujah from the Hope For Haiti Now album soars 35 spots 48-13 in its 2nd week.
  • Another new high for Snoop Dogg's I Wanna Rock this week as it jumps 19 spaces 60-41 this week.
  • Say Something by Timbaland (but mostly by Drake) continues its northern momentum as it climbs another 15 spots 61-46.
  • After debuting a few weeks back, Usher's Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home) found its out of the top 100 last week, but its returns to a new high at #80 this week.
  • B.o.B's first single from his first album is his first charted record ever as Nothin' On You featuring Bruno Mars comes in at #89. I love this song so I hope it does well. B.o.B Presents The Adventures Of Bobby Ray is due May 25th.
  • Jennifer Hudson's new joint featuring The Roots, Let It Be, checks in at #98.

This Week In Flops 2/2/10

Lil Wayne Rebirth
Okay, first off, who knew this album was coming out today before seeing those Best Buy commercials last night during the season finale of "For The Love Of Ray J"?? I thought they pushed it back to June?? And if they were gonna just release it on a random date, why not back when the album first leaked in December??

Whatever. This is a failed experiment and we all know it. The album is awful, no one likes it, and no one is gonna buy it. This will go down as a fail of epic proportions, Cash Money knows it, Universal knows it, Lil Wayne knows it. But you know what?? I'm not sure they're not just releasing this album like this on purpose. Since it is indeed a failed experiment, who's to say they aren't just dropping Rebirth with no promo or interest just to get it over with?? I wouldn't be shocked. Hell, maybe Drake's album actually does have a shot of coming out now, who knows??

Anyway, lets get down to business: I'm guessing Rebirth's sales fall somewhere in the range of 60-90k. That's my guess and I'm sticking with it.

Kobe Bryant Surpasses Jerry West As Leading Scorer In Lakers History

Kobe
Kobe dropped 44 tonight in a lost to the Grizzlies (fuckin' sad and also lets you know how far the Celtics have fallen because they lost to the Lakers about 24 hours earlier), but all he really needed was the 29th because that's the one that put him over The Logo in the Lakers' history books. Mr. Bryant now has 25,208 points, and at 31, he's gonna push that total to insurmountable heights.

When its all said and done, Kobe will AT THE LEAST bump Shaq out of the top 5 of NBA all-time leading scorers and most likely crack 30,000 (at the moment Shaq has 28,119). I doubt he ever catches Kareem (38,387), but I don't think that's his goal. I think that goal is Jordan's 32,292, and that he'll play as long as he needs to top it. Either way, congrats to him on the milestone.

Jersey Shore Coming Back For A 2nd Season!

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Yes! This is easily the best news I've heard all day! I remember reading on TMZ the other week that they were in negotiations for another season, but wanted more money. I guess MTV finally came to their senses and decided to come correct with the loot. And really, why shouldn't they?? In that same article it state members of "The Hills" are getting upwards of $100,000 a episode and there's no question "Jersey Shore" is more popular. Pay them real nigga guidos what you owe MTV!

I mean think about, not only was it the most watched show in MTV history, but they've made a huge imprint on all of our lives. Can anybody hear the word "situation" and not automatically think about The Situation?? I was watching "Spongebob" yesterday and Mr. Krabs told Spongebob, "we have a situation," and I couldn't help but laugh. And that's not it, I know I'm not the only 1 who says "bro" at the end of 70% of my sentence, or fist pumps whenever music comes on, bro. At this point we need "Jersey Shore," its apart of our lives!

Anyway, they didn't disclose how much each of them is gonna be making per show, but whatever it is, times that by 12 because that's how many new episodes we're getting! They're supposed to start filming this March and the episodes will air over the summer. There is also supposed to be a change of scenery for the guids. Cancun seems like a no-brainer, but I'm not sure they could all get passports lol. Whatever, it doesn't really matter where they are, if they're on TV, I'm watching!

(Side note: How impressed are you with the way Mike spoke in this interview?? He actually sounds like a pretty intelligent dude. Who knew??)
